I didnā€™t see it as ā€˜strangeā€™ I saw truth there. More of the newer gens of folks are putting their elders into nursing homes, instead of caring for em themselves. They ā€˜just donā€™t have timeā€™ā€¦
The number of nursing homes and nursing care companies are skyrocketing!
Also, he was basically complimenting Rose for being such a ā€˜workhorseā€™! To which I agree wholeheartedly!

Anything generalizing modern women rubs me the wrong way. I donā€™t really believe in bringing other women down to uplift others. There are gems all around us.

Your wife of course deserves all the praise and recognition for her hard work.
I donā€™t intend to derail your thread or rain on your parade, so Iā€™ll leave it here.

You have a valid point, and I agree with you on bringing anyone down. However I didnā€™t really read it that way, so sorry for seeing different import.

I would like to note, just as a heart to heart from young to old. Please understand that gen z / millennials arenā€™t putting their seniors in homes purely due to some moral failing. There are many reasons, but the largest being that Gen Z and Millennials face significant financial pressures, including student loan debt, high living costs, and often stagnant wages. Many rely on dual incomes, long work hours, or gig economy jobs that donā€™t offer the flexibility needed for full-time caregiving.

We can no longer afford multi generational homes that can even accommodate the space for a senior. We work hard. Harder than older generations like to credit us for. Things are hard right now, I think we need some more understanding for each other. I have to hope and pray Iā€™ll afford a home at all.

A very thoughtful answer. Well worded but leaving out a couple of points, if I may? With the ā€˜cost of livingā€™ on the rise that it is, the cost would be prohibitive itā€™d seem to me. The cost of a nursing home facility is well above just about any other cost or reason, including the ones you mention.
Different points of view, both valid to a degree. I would be the last to talk down about the amount of work some younger folks perform, not all. I have 3 sons who are damn fine stand up men that work hard to take care of their families. They also help Rose with caring for me and issues arising from it.
I hope you can afford a place also, I know itā€™s becoming ever rougher.

Usually, in the case of a few offspring, especially, one of them stays at the home where the elder lives, to keep them in familiar space for one, anyway the person that stays and cares 24/7 (you can even get a damn good paycheck doing this.) Also getting the house as an agreed upon payment by the rest of any children, etc.

Seems to me, killing two birds with one stone. A nice paying job, and a place to live, and own eventually.
I canā€™t speak for all, only myself. I know of quite a few generations back on both sides, this is how it went, and continues in a couple of family branches right now.

I may regret replying to this. Knowing Smooth and having a few conversations with him, he maybe could have said some folks instead of modern woman. That said , im sure hes a really good man and the whole comment itself was directed to JP as a compliment to his partner. This is a weed site and older minds have to type it , or they will forget it. To err is human , to forgive, devine.

I completely agree, cost is a huge factor, especially with todayā€™s rising expenses. Nursing facilities are often unaffordable. Perhaps I didnā€™t do my comment justice by leaving out the other factors involved most specifically with time and space constraints. I personally feel like its all these reasons on top of the financial strain. Time is money, and I think millenials/gen z are recognizing more that senior care is an entire job, on top of the pre existing economic burdens we live with. I suppose the most common occurrence may be lack of space. Whats more expensive, moving from an apartment to a home that has an extra bedroom, or a nursing home?

Your sons sound like incredible supports, and itā€™s great you have them close. I know personally Iā€™ll do whatever I can to care for my parents once they get old old.

Of course. I donā€™t think a slip of the tongue is defining of ones character. I have my own personal feelings about how misogyny can be deeply embedded into our society and personal beliefs without us entirely being aware. This, to me, felt like one of those moments. I may be extra trigger happy simply because I want the cannabis cultivation community to be more welcoming to women.

I certainly hope I didnā€™t come off as ā€˜misogynisticā€™! lol Rose has worked beside me as my business partner, for 41 yrs. She was still doing roofs at 45 with her own crew! Iā€™m a firm believer in equality!
