Six weeks after pollination is my goal. And I’ve never looked at any data on sinsemilla vs seeded bud dry-times, but now that you mention it, the seeds probably do slow the drying a bit.
The seeds take about a month after harvest for all of them to stabilize and germination rates to peak.
Very good to know! Thank you @DiggySoze, your opinion means alot to me.
If you decide to hang dry them, make sure to put newspaper or something else below the plants for any seeds that drop out. I usually harvest the Ripe seeds as they come along, and put them in a dish at room temperature. (of course I’m outdoors and some seeds on my plants will fall out of the bracts if left unattended). I would do like Diggy says and go at least six weeks. Pollen can also hang on the plants for a little while, so pollination of new pistols occurs even after you’ve done the pollinating. When you do pick the plant, pull it up by The Roots. Seeds that are not done can often mature this way in the darkness when they’re slow dried. you’ll be surprised how many come out of those buds when they are broken up. Once you have dried the plant and broken up the buds , try rolling them in between a sheet of newspaper to break any adhering portion of the calyx’s off of the seed. Then push the husks and seeds all to one end of the newspaper and slightly tilt it and vibrate the paper so that the seeds roll down the crease. Something longer would actually work even better than newspaper. The longer it is, the more of the plant matter gets trapped in between the beginning and the end of the sloped crease .Each time you do it less of the crap goes with it. eventually only seeds will roll down the crease. It takes a lot of energy for the plants to make many seeds, so continue to be patient and good quality seeds will be the result. Looking good!
That’s 1 good reason I love this comm. Help and an answer is always there, Thanks @Upstate . Looking like your gonna ride this plane crash to the ground with me, cool. I let #16 start his job 5/7, thats 4 1/2 weeks. She’s still hanging in there, lots of brown hairs, but lots of white hairs too. The tricombs are mainly clear, I wished I could take pic, I’ve got a magnifier off a telescope, damn near see the molecules in the air with it. I’d say 85% clear . Some have brown caps and some or clouding all the way. Hope she hangs on another cple weeks at least. Yesterday she started leaning on the wall, so I tied her to a peg, # 14 is doing good, so is her clone, I’ve got sixteen back out side and let him hit # 14, she aint got alot, but she has hairs. 16 is going back in the ground this week sometime. Thinking my BluOaxacan×BluBerry is gonna have a new daddy. Bagseed too. Oh well. More seeds to pass out😬,their outside so November maybe.
Edit in more pics;----
Here’s one of my bagseed just a few inches shorter than me, it’s only JUNE and it’s about to top the 6’ fence
Time for some bondage! Must be some large amounts of Mexican blood still running through those ! I know some of you will think I am crazy, but if you cut the top foot off of one of those and then snap the plant in half without killing the top, you will have one hell of a lollipop Bush on your hands! I’m growing some Himalayan types this year. I’ll be sure to do that so I can show you guys some pictures of the results. I know it goes against the grain doing that, but the results can’t be denied. Some of the best yielding plants I’ve had got this same treatment.
The story of #14
We thought was a he.
Growing tall so fast I started bending
That night a storm blew thru and beat down poor l’il #14. So I propped back up a staked the stalk and a few days later
So I gave it a cple weeks and TRIED to bend again
Well as you can see, and I’ve started spraying neem for bugs . And here SHE is today
.
.
Now on the bagseed @Upstate , the tops are starting budding, but it is getting way to tall. Instead of bending branches down, cut a foot! Off! Where and how to break?
I’ll try since it’s just bagseed.
You can screenshot, and draw on pic for me, Please and Thank you
Yes, cut approximately a foot off the top, cutting just above a node. You can decide to snap or fold it anywhere you want to, but obviously the lower you do it the shorter the plant will be. You can attempt squeezing the stalk and folding it, but I find they normally just snap. ? I typically do it 18 inch or so off the ground, but my plants are normally not as tall as yours when I do it. I think I would do it quite low seeing how fast that thing is growing. Snap anywhere up to half way up the plants height. Find yourself a y-shaped stick to prop in the ground at the height you want the plant to rest at. ( the height you snap it at) This will support the plant until it heals the wound. Make sure its a sturdy stick. The plant should end up resting at a 90 degree angle 2 its unbroken stalk. Just be careful when you’re doing it, and I think you’ll find that you’ll be pleased with your decision. Thanks for taking the chance!
The plant will appear to be stunted for a little while, and you won’t notice very much growth. But I always think of plants as two plants. One plant above ground, and one plant below ground. The plant above ground will quickly catch up to the plant below ground, and eventually surpass any growth you may have had originally. You will like the results
I can’t quite get my head around that one, but I’d love to see the pictures.
And I got both ends on steriods , hehehe😲
I figure we got at least 4-5 months before the crash landing, please remain seated , buckle up! just lost engines 1 thru 4, there’s only one parachute, let me know if you want Paracord on you complimentary para head bandana before it’s all cut up, Drinks are on the house this flight. Thank you for flying high on Bongholio airlines!
But seriously, I was bored so I started looking at pics( actually I was high, shhhh)
What I figure is I got the silver pearl× Mexican Haze phenos, it started fat leafed but 14 weeks into flower and Lok at resemblence( ?? Spell ck please)
Basically that’s exactly what mine is looking like
Knowing Santa Maria is almost pure sativa, I’m not seeing much 65 day flower, giant kola buds like in cees pics.
Extreme training lol! Turns tall lanky plants into bushes with multiple tops…try it on a male this year. I’ve got some i can do it to. I don’t make a practice of doing this all the time, but when I have done it the results are always great. Bigger yield. I did one in a greenhouse( to the horror and disgust of others lol) with 100 sour d, 100 old boy blue, 100 og kush and 100 of something I can’t remember. The plant had accidentally broken, so I topped it heavily and planted it anyway. I marked the plant with sticks in the ground to find it later. I week before harvest, I visited this greenhouse. It was the best yielder with the biggest and most colas. By far. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
Boy, they do look similar don’t they? You may be right…
The original Santa Maria was pure sativa, but when it went to holland it was changed, and left with the same name. They call this version “Santa Maria Planck” to differentiate it from the old version.
Beautiful bud there @TheBubbleKing
I was looking at yr picture of the " punish it" based plant and it looks like a tough job… any time I have done this treatment ( top and break) it’s been on a tall Branchless plant. Are you looking to do this on that multi top plant or the lanky one on the left side pic below neem spray photo? I’ve had plants that looked like yr multi top gal that were too tall. I cut them in half. In my case an 8 footer became a 4 footer in early August on a particular plant. It finished at 8 ft and yielded a touch over a lb 9 or 10 weeks later.
It didn’t bother it one bit to get that treatment. I love big plants, but they aren’t worth getting in trouble for.
On the muti top( which is a beast in training) I would cut the whole thing off a foot and a half above where it branches out, or just fold each top away from the others at the same height, using supports. Shame to have to do anything at all.
This I would need help with. I’d love to learn even tho you probably don’t need me to draw it out. Been wanting to learn this for awhile.
Wow, just finished reading this thread @TheBubbleKing and it plays out like a movie drama. That about trials and tribulations! Keep up the great work.
You want to learn to take a screen shot and draw on it? What sort of device do you use to view Overgrow.com? Phone? Apple thing? PC?
