Selling crap on ebay sux balls

just sold a main board out of a tv i scrapped and can’t get the money. they make you add your bank account, so i refused naturally. then tried to refund the seller the money, and can’t without adding a bank account, the whole reason for the cancellation. so after a call to support desk (yeah, right), i found out the buyer has to open a claim to get it. i sent him a message telling why he wasn’t getting the board, and am shipping him all the boards and cables from the tv for free, on my own dime. he doesn’t know he gets them all yet, that’s his christmas surprise. piss on ebay, i’d rather lose $10 shipping and $48 on each board than give them my bank info. right now i just have to watch to see if paypal gets breached, no way in hell i am giving it out to everyone. just an fyi to anyone selling things, in case you don’t know how ebay operates. maybe i’m the only one that doesn’t. anyway, merry christmas all.

It’s all a way for “Uncle Sam” to take more from us. I don’t know that ebay ever operated without the use of electronic banking. I set up basically an exclusive account for eBay transactions. I buy something, I just transfer the amount from my bank to the ebay account which only maintains a $50 balance until I use that account. Makes everything easier at tax time. Got to pay the man to use the paper. Sucks, yes. But welcome to this American life.

Sounds like you all may need to smoke a joint and relax. Millions of people have used eBay for years without problems. Complain about their ever higher commission if you’re going to complain about something.

And banking regulations also stop corporations from taking advantage of you, and so warlords and drug cartels can’t freely transfer money electronically around the globe.

…But wait it’s really the evil “Uncle Sam” man trying to tax you on you in that $60 bohemian antique lampshade. And what makes you think other sountries don’t have regulations and taxes? This “American” life :joy:

Not that long ago I thought the “big gov” or “commie” fears were all conspiracy theories, but they way things are shaking out it now feels like they were dead on.

It’s a big club and you ain’t in it.

i have used ebay since the 90s and i cant stand how their fees are about 10x what they used to be. The payment system though is very convenient and much better than it used to be with paypal lockouts etc. You can just dispute any charge with your bank so i’m not sure what the issue is here?

My financial advisor works at a major investment bank and manages clients with hundreds of millions or billions of dollars; we’re pretty friendly and talk semi-regularly, despite my having such small amounts of money with them as to be invisible. He finds my perspective amusing, mostly, I think… anyway, I’m very confident that he would laugh at this, if I managed to tell him in a spare moment when he wasn’t being recorded for quality assurance purposes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Banking regulations mostly serve to give the government visibility on the money of the middle class. The poor tend to use cash more; the rich use private investment, and when necessary buy banks to get around regulations. Banks have been ignoring money laundering charges for millenia, that’s half the reason they exist - so that banks can ignore them. Credit Suisse got hit again just this year, surprise surprise.

I was more trying to highlight the multiple taxation points of anything bought, or sold for that matter. Never said “Uncle Sam” was/ is evil, just greedy. Yes I recognize the benefits i have because of “Uncle Sam” but I also see (at least some) of their significant shortfalls. I just miss the ebay of old, it’s now more retail than resale.

Yeah the higher fees do make it super hard for resellers to make profit. Plus shipping is higher now for most things so a lot of people are without their side hustles or full income because of it.

my only issue was not letting me use paypal like i do on everything else. on the buying ebay account i linked paypal and not a bank. that way none of the websites have my bank info, but i can use my bank on all of them through paypal. that way i don’t have to worry about who gets breached and loses my crap, i just watch paypal for that. either way, dude just got a hell of a christmas present, or will when he gets his refund and gets a spare everything for his tv.
