Should trust level requirements be enhanced?

@shag i guess I’m saying that if the island is so great why do you care about the site at large? Why isn’t it good enough that you have people who agree with you in there, and why is it necessary to keep trying to argue with other members in ways that are inevitably accusatory on your part when they disagree? Also like @AppalachianBiscuits said, offer a solution if you have a system, and be prepared for rejection when it’s not popular. That’s the way it goes, at least here on OG writ large, don’t like it, then retreat to the island dude. The openness to new members is part of what makes this site so good, I have no desire to be selfish and paranoid in this place where I hang out for fun.

No Judgement.
I just feel like what you’re leaning towards would exclude newer accounts and give them no real chance to establish or have fun with us(not all new people are bad). I remember the first pack I got from OG made me jump for joy and I grew it out with great excitement. That member didn’t have to send me shit being a new account and not vetted.

It goes right back to the solution though.

Any one who feels the Trust level system isn’t up to par could always setup private groups/runs/giveaway’s.

I wouldn’t be against this if you chose to do it this way. It’s your prerogative and may be beneficial to what you’re trying to establish with more senior and trustworthy members who would like the same thing you speak of…

I don’t mind sending a pack of seeds to a new account during a giveaway when I have thousands to give away and I’m expecting nothing in return from said individual.

I guess it just boils down to what angle you’re coming at this from. Trades, giveaway’s, or co-op runs.

Yes, they have that is all we are trying to accomplish here…a way to tell if someone is a trusted member.
that is all we want nothing more, no site revamp no major overhaul.
Hell man we are only trying to have a discussion on the subject but there is a lot of hate when we say anything other then…“Things are great the way they are”

Here you go telling me what I need to do, well how about you not tell me what I need to do any longer, I am my own man and don’t need you telling me what I need to do, thank you very much!

May I suggest the same to you.
I am only speaking to those that feel like I do, I did not call you hear to change how you do you.

You like to judge me that is clear but your vision is distorted with your personal feelings toward me.
I mearly state my opinion and you see that as authoritarian?
Again your vision is distorted, take another look at things.

Why yes it is, and might I suggest you are not so familiar with that statement on a personal level.
You came here to engage me, I did not butt into your business at all.
In fact I was not even thinking about you until you came here to engage with me.

Stay in your lane bro, no body is butting in your business at all.
Again, may I suggest your vision is distorted.

So if I want to look out for my family you want me kicked off the site…WOW
Might I suggest you mind you own business this is not about you at all, why are you involved?

We need to slow down a little bit please.

I know. I’m never going to be able to listen to that song again at Christmas without seeing the Sugar-plum weed fairy. Thanks AB

The whole “well someone vouches for you” is . . . . anyone know how to get into the Free Mason’s without knowing someone? (minus the what . . can’t be Catholic right?)

You say we need some dummy gummy’s. lol
What song is it?

Shag let me say it again, this is cop behavior. You are trying to police people who have not consented to your rules or your authority and we, the other users, are saying we don’t want that. I can’t be any more clear than that. Arguments of a silent majority are weak, and honestly kind of pathetic. If you have so many friends and backers where are they? All I see is someone claiming to be the strongman we need, and I don’t trust that pitch ever. You are here alone in this thread and I have seen no evidence of your claims about unidentified other users who support you. One would think they would have arrived by now if they were real.

I remember my first gifts were from @lefthandseeds and @Jinglepot .
For me it was very exciting. @ReikoX hooked me up. Trust is very important here on OG.
We have leaders here. @G-paS works very hard. She should never need anything. Like growing equipment… we need to take care of those it take care of us.

there’s the rub. i was trying to put a finger on it and where i see it, it’s the freaking news! the media is doing the same thing to us. clickbait, aka driving views or whatever they call it now. fud is what it’s called in infosec. fear, uncertainty, and doubt. sowing the seeds of panic to promote your “silver bullet”.

I know others here have given away way more than me but I’ve given out 3 full coin flip boxes of bird seed to members here and have never taken in a single seed. I’ve also never felt like I was dealing with someone shady or a scammer. To me catering to people doing meaningless random giveaways seems like a bad idea and that a trade rating would only encourage more of that behavior. I guess it comes down to whether or not you would have the site turn into Craigslist / Facebook marketplace in order to self-aggrandize. Already does feel like it with all the roll calls and rng giveaways to an extent.

I don’t make giveaways a focal point of my posts, nor use them as a cheap way to boost engagement or build rep. I come here to interact with people who share an interest in similar hobbys, to document my experiences, and to learn from others. It’s pretty easy to spot like-minded people even without joining some virtual exclusive club. If you make flashy posts advertising giveaways then don’t be surprised when people who only want free seeds show up to claim them…

The simplest low effort way that the site already provides is to just look at the users top 5 replies. Not the amount of likes but the actual content of the posts. If 3 out of 5 or more have to do with giveaways then that should set off some flags…

This is a fact. I know this to be very true. There are some here that can’t afford seeds. I don’t have a problem with that at all. They sign up for giveaways that is a 50-50 chance. How some of them and find out I have no idea. I wish the best for everyone.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting exotics.
That is when you become part of the community.
You go around you try to be supportive. Help people that need help. I have noticed some that come, and they leave and never come back. It is hard for me to meet new friends here.

The beauty of the wiki giveaways where it’s rng with the list. You can’t even make a post that’s editable by other people unless you’re T2 right? So the OP should kinda know what they’re getting into with a giveaway having been able to enter them to make them.

When you introduce yourself. That shows your character. Most of the people that are there that welcome you in are the most trusted people.

Considering the price of seeds, and auto seeds for that matter, the common home grower can’t really afford seed prices on the regular. So they’re either limited on what variety they can grow or, like me, if it sounds like something I might like, I put my name down. I think a lot of people are marginalizing the massive amount of people that are going to be rolling in here to be as active as anyone else as new growers. There’s also can’t afford seeds or what’s out there is all the same stuff for the most part. Or it’s breeders not a lot of people here would touch that they get sucked into buying. I’m fairly positive some of the stuff I’ve won in the rng giveaways is better than the stuff I’ve hunted down and bought.

AND recently there’s been a whole lot of breeder’s passing away and reproductions happening here for people to get it while they can almost. I’m still sitting here like I’m at Vegas for BOG stuff.

It has been a sad year. We have lost a few friends here. I understand completely what you’re saying. And I agree.
The biggest thing I hate about waiting on the seeds is after you bought them. Just a confirmation.
Sometimes places take a long time

this right here. this should really be the end of the discussion. i recall being a white dude at a project in inkster mi, place where cops didn’t venture after dark, hanging with my homies smoking weed and other shit. left the truck unlocked all night and the tools were there in the morning. sometimes it isn’t where you are but who you’re with. i lock my doors when i come in for a sandwich in my home in semi rural wv now because of the crackheads that walk around and don’t care if you shoot them.

think about it. there’s already a system in place and it gets gamed. how long do you think it would take for a crew of three to rack up enough of your new trust to scam someone? how long do you think it would take to get a big score? all that work for nothing. anyone who gives up liberty for security deserves neither. or something to that effect.
