Should trust level requirements be enhanced?

Hi, I’m AppalachianBiscuits and we’re friends now.

This isn’t the first post I’ve made on OG announcing someone is now my friend. This is how extroverts make friends and we don’t care if it’s right.

HMM, interesting position. I have seen these comments before. So you don’t like the giveaways yet have given out boxes of coin flips, interesting. It’s strange that you equate these giveaways as a cheap way to boost engagement yet can think of no other reason for them. I do lots of giveaways yet none of my top replies have anything to do with said giveaways. Oh well, you can feel anyway you want about a thing.

Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. You’ve heard it, you probably just didn’t know what it’s called

The Beatles? I’m trying to remember I don’t want to Google it.
I remember Puff, the Magic Dragon. lol
I’ll have to look it up to refresh my memory.

I think I’ve done enough here already.

But it’s important, I think, for us to remember how exciting it can be. I remember how excited I was. We are all in different places in our growing lives.

I’m not going to give anybody grief for getting a little ahead of themselves. I get it.

As a noob it’s very easy to fall into that excitement. How do you tell a scammer from such a person? It’s hard.

You keep doing your thing Doug. Although we differ in scope and maybe on other things I salute your good work.

I love puff the magic dragon. I have a music box from my mother that plays it with 2 ceramic dragons :two_hearts:

You’ll think of it. It’s always out at Christmas time

My goal wasn’t to make it a personal post about any individual user but a common behavior I’ve observed across multiple threads. Plenty of these threads I’ve opened on this site are encouraging low quality discussions with random number giveaways in order to win a pack of seeds, and have nothing to do with the thread the giveaways are taking place in. I’m not interested in justifying how I give away seeds to you, I delete the offers after sending them out and they are related to the genetics I am growing out at the time. They aren’t done to tease out engagement, but I do benefit from doing them because I feel less like I am wasting time making seeds (which I’d be doing anyways for myself).

It’s almost as if my post wasn’t about you and you are clearly contributing to the site beyond your giveaways?

this is another reason not to mess with anything. i was brand new here, just found the site again after having stopped looking for it after almost 20 years off (i stopped in 2003 when a buddy got busted and i got real paranoid). imagine my surprise when i entered the veterans giveaway and now have 22 strains. not once did anyone ask me to prove that i was a real veteran, although i am and would have pretty quickly. would this new trust level have prevented that?

oh, and i just realized that these comments seem to be arguing with folks who have the same views, but i am just throwing the words into the wind so to speak. i’ve just hit one and am enjoying life basically. and i’m catholic so i can’t be a mason. my uncle was one though, but he’s been dead for a decade now.

they made a movie about some of my friends…

I would never expect you to. I just felt it was important to say that there are reasons, other than the one you pointed out, that people give away seeds and pollen. I have gotten great joy out of watching some make their very own seeds for the first time with pollen I provided or growing some great genetics through seeds I provided. While it may sound selfish, that joy it brings me is all the reward I am after. Now perhaps that could be seen as selfish by some as it is partially motivated by my own happiness, but that’s my reasoning anyway. Not looking to start an argument, just saying that I may do exactly what you speak of for totally different reasons than you expressed. :v:

Of course, and your position on trust is reasonable as well. You aren’t turning a non issue into an issue and accept the ‘risk’ of the giveaways you do. Haven’t seen you complain about people winning your giveaways either. My post really wasn’t about or directed at you, hope it didn’t come across that way.

Please say the movie is about the horse.

I love watching the giveaways. Regardless of the intent, it’s exciting to watch people get excited about winning seeds.

@DougDawson No one in their right mind would ever accuse you of anything but over-generosity. You are one of the most even keeled people I’ve ever encountered. Almost to the point it makes me angry that you don’t get angry. (I’m kidding, don’t get angry)

something about horse soldiers in afghanistan. haven’t seen it yet. i think it was them or 5th group, they relieved 5th group in '02 and then 5th went back in '03 i think, we went to iraq in '04.

Not at all. I mean, I engage in the things you were speaking of, so I felt I wanted to speak but it certainly didn’t come off as you were directing it at me or any other specific user. I just wanted to point out that there were other reasons that people do giveaways and such. Was never offended nor did I feel I was being attacked at all man. Please don’t get the idea that I was the least bit bothered by your comments, I was not. Just felt I wanted to respond as someone who does those things.

There’s a bunch of DougDawson’s in the making now, too. One day I’ll pay it forward with some decently stabile beans of my own to toss around.

That’s exactly how I feel.

It’s pretty amazing, actually. We used to cull all the males and throw them on the burn pile.

Now we hope for one so we can make seeds.

My how times have changed

Oh my, nobody wants that. One is the world max on ME’s, lol.

Why wait? Make more beans and share them around freely and as widely as possible. Learn by doing. Nothing is perfect and It doesn’t matter if they are ‘stable’, hell MOST commercial breeders don’t even bother with that anymore. F2’s going for $1000 a pack at some places apparently, there is no skill whatsoever in just making seeds.

Thank You sweetheart! This last box and some fussing almost did me in. Working to remodel co-op room to start on the fall box

:seedling:
Totally agree.
Also number of threads/post started should go as people make post just to increase number. Also number of thread entered for the same reason.

  • of topics created in the last 100 days, must have viewed 25% (currently ~250)
  • of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 25% (currently ~ 10000)

At the moment trust is a popularity contest.

It doesn’t to me. Hasn’t mattered to anyone else thats done a seedrun, either, that I know of. We do the seedruns to pass out free seeds because it makes us happy, that’s it.
It’s about the loopholes. There are loopholes for new members to gain trust level quickly. There should also be loopholes for members unwilling to bend the rules, or that contribute in other ways besides reading lots of threads.

You have to give to a few jerks to reach all the good ones. The good ones greatly outnumber the jerks.
Scammers suck. I wonder sometimes if I’m giving rare seed to the same person twice, or even more. Or to someone that has been kicked off OG for dishonesty and is back under a new name. But what can you do? Give freely to everyone and the good folks will have those seeds, which is the intent anyway.
