Should trust level requirements be enhanced?

Ehhhhh there might be some kinda of trial and error at least. My first pollen chuck with some reg autos onto some fem autos may be producing nothing but runts. Might have picked the worst male.

Secret is that it’s mostly trial and error, you just get a better feel for what will work with what over time and even then you will still need to test to see. At least you are on your way bro, that’s the important thing🙏

**Have ya’ll got this ironed out yet? I was last here about 150 posts ago and thought maybe some change had come. But it appears to be just like I left it. I swear some of you like to argue just for the sake of arguing. **

I have to admit, I’m a new member to this site and this is an incredibly discouraging thread to read. I’ve read and learned lots of good things here, but this is somewhat disturbing, especially after all of the friendly people I’ve interacted with and dealt with here. I’m a noob to the trade and unfortunately, I’m not in a place where I can comfortably post pictures and a diary. Because of this, I’ve had to take my questions and concerns to PMs. I don’t feel safe doing it any other way, but I have gotten generous and knowledgeable responses, that have helped me out. I still have some issues that I can’t figure out and trust me, it’s not cool to be unable to show everything and get the abundance of opinions and knowledge this site and wonderful group of people have to offer!
With that said, I have no idea about trust levels and time spent, or any of the other factors mentioned here. I have 7 or 8 packs of beans that I have paid for and they’re very expensive :joy:. So, yes I have entered drawings for a shot at some freebies, so that I can have a bit more variety, once I get a little better at the craft. I didn’t sign up here to get free stuff, actually, I had zero idea that it was even a thing. The generosity of the members here is incredible and I’m super thankful to even have the chance to sign up for these things, when I choose to. Anyway, I’ve never won anything and from the sound of it, maybe that’s good in some of these people’s eyes lol.
This is an awesome sight and the people here are amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. I hope to be in a safer position one day, so that I can utilize everything here, but until then, I also don’t care to be labeled as on of the scammer/villains that some speak of. That’s not what I’m here for :v:t2:

you’ll find it isn’t like this most of the time. just whenever someone feels like some are getting something for nothing i think. kinda strange if you ask me but i’m relatively new to the new site also. if you steer clear of threads like this and ignore certain folks who you’ll figure out on your own, then it really is a great place to hang out. i work in i t security and may be able to give you some hints on how to stay out of trouble with your internet activity. it’s a hell of a lot harder than it was 30 or even 10 years ago but still possible depending on where you live and who you’re hiding from. i’d like to see you be able to get better assistance too, as well as show your pics and participate more.

Do you have some general tips on staying out of trouble please? You got me a little paranoid now!

use a vpn, mfa with a keyfob if possible and not a phone (like yubikey), passphrases and not passwords, use an adblocker, block everything from asking for permissions from your computer, and never re-use passwords. i should put together a small tutorial, but i don’t want to get anyone living in a dangerous area thinking that they are safe when they aren’t. if you come from certain areas you shouldn’t be on this website at all, no matter what protections you use.

oh, and if you are trying to stay anonymous, don’t do anything that would tie the anon account to any other. use a vm when you use the anon account.

Nah, don’t let the hate-filled shadow politics of an extremely small sub-minority of apparently hate-fill NIMBY’s intent on arguing circularly dissuade you from participating in any topic nor giveaway: Overgrow is an otherwise healthy and thriving community focused on sharing and overgrowing the world. A vast majority of OG members constitute an extremely diverse and generous community who share the details of their lives and foster a community of caring for each other every single day without any hints nor mention of any sort of exclusionist nonsense like the minority opinions of this topic’s posts expose. If you read all of the details from the links the site owner Lemonade Joe sent you in the very first email in your inbox you will see the actual rules of the site – none of those rules contain any references, nor even hints, that the closed-minded opinions of the three or four people out of thousands on the site who keep forcing these offensive, derisive, derogatory and pedantic opinions down the rest of the community members throats has any bearing whatsoever beyond those members personal threads where they are allowed to enforce their own obstacles to participation. None.
This and one more recent topic were one-off rants created by some Johnny-come-lately naybob"s of negativity who feel they are entitled to come in to someone else’s house-- which is an otherwise hyper-friendly community that has been carefully cultivated for quite a long time by the site owner and the moderators – and express this sort of antithetical isolationist crap on the walls of Lemonade Joe’s home…only to continually circle back and complain that the suggestions they have made have not yet been cowtoe’d to  You are just as welcome as anyone else… well, maybe not in these few members threads… so do not hesitate to participate. This site is for all of us, including you.

Yes! That’s the OG spirit

My best advice to you is just be yourself and don’t worry about being labeled anything. All are welcome on OG. FUD pops up every so often. It’s just part of life. :v:

I’ve only been registered a little less than a year. To be perfectly honest, I registered in response to a valued member offering seeds I had been looking for. I sent him this PM along with my address:

“Thank you so much … I’m newly registered here and don’t just want to “take”, first time ive participated in something like this … can I contribute to offset your costs in some way? Let me know!”

Okay, I’ve since discovered it’s bad protocol. But here’s the response I received:

“most would have told you to stick around and participate in the community before entering giveaways. Me? I don’t really give it that much thoughts.
Some do have a blacklist of “is asking for seeds on their first post”
It’s on the house😉
Pay it forward!”

I took this seriously, and I feel like I have contributed some decent content the past year, not just a bunch of congratulations/emoji posts. Regardless of if you agree with that or not, this member had a chance to make or break me at that point. He chose to be very OG. I really appreciated that.

Like it or not, seeds are a big part of this place. If you make it exclusionary, I think itll eventually wither and die.

DM’s work really well if you wish to talk options, other than sharing… just sayin

Don’t be discouraged, when I was very new I happened upon this same conversation being had in some other thread, and I thought it was a pretty negative way to look at newer members, the members make up the bulk of our community here, like 2500 people, the regulars stand at 157 people, reg. emeritus like 300.
But to touch on the actual point of this thread, I do think that if someone is packing an Overgrower badge around or has been around 2-3 years…. They should probably be given regular status because I’d say they have earned it. :sunglasses:

This is very evident…LOL

Don’t believe the Hype.

Seeds are a form of currency on OverGrow, of all the strains given away… less than 25% ever get grown. This conversation about seeds being too precious to give away to people who haven’t been here long enough goes all the way back to the start of OG 23 years ago. BOG gave away thousands of seeds to testers of his strains, he loved to see people grow medical marijuana and never complained if you didn’t grow them. The real rub about all of this is that trust level is useless, how many likes a person has is based on how many posts have been accepted as likable. The most important thing that happens on OverGrow is all about the personal view of each individual, all who remain receive what is wanted from this social media website, or the member leaves.
All of the growers who give away seeds know that collectors almost never grow the incredible strains received. The very best way to only give away seeds to the people who actually need them is to start a private message and invite only those who you trust to the contest. It’s a lot of work and the thought that anyone will actually grow the seeds must be put to the side.

Most of the long term members of OverGrow have more seeds than they can grow in a lifetime, myself included. If your looking for the very best way to get your awesome seeds to people who need them is to auction them and have the proceeds go to support OverGrow.

The only thing that will bring a smile to your face for giving away seeds is to see someone growing a strain that you made or provided.

Whatever you do, have a great day. :sunglasses:

Trust is earned over time.

Hey Frosty, no worries. This place is great. Many selfless folks behind the scenes getting these seed runs done. You are a good man and you’ll fit in just fine here. Welcome!

It seems to me that it’s a general concensus, with no one opposed, that tl3 status should be given to people that do a coop run. It would encourage more people to do one.
Conversation is what makes a thread, not likes given or received. Without posts or replies, there would be no threads. For that reason I think some change should be made for people spending more time replying or posting instead of reading topics, or for people that take their time reading, or stick to a handful of threads.
I’ve only read a couple of posts that said new people shouldn’t get seeds. I don’t think that’s a general consensus.
I started this thread as a way to hopefully open new doors for tl3 status, not to close any.
