Used soil as compressed from packaging or light and fluffy ,which do you prefer ?
go with the compressed bale. promix or sunshine mix #4. nothing else. promix hp is the best. cheap, TONS of soil. and its an amazing starter. mix some kelp meal in there and you got a great mix for seedlings clones and teens. after teens youll want to utilize korean natural farming to supply the soil with the nutrients you need. then you can recycle and reuse the same soil over and over and itll get better and better.
if you choose the bottle route like botanicare, advance whatever. you have to switch out and toss your soil which causes un needed garbage, and chemicals leaching the earth. not to mention the waste water you toss down your drain.
Suppose it depends on your methods. I run supersoil so I just mix with either roots or a black gold/ss#4 ratio and use the same for my base soil for seedlings and early veg. I also try to treat the soil as I’m mixing, many come with larvae and gnats. Haven’t done too much of the notill but I’m definitely looking into it.
Yeah those bags are bad for gnats. Ive also heard of promix having root aphids. Thats why i dont fuck with bags of soil. Waste of my time and money. Personly. Ive had nothing but greatness come from the promix bales. I had a promix bag with gnats. In the end. Sphagnum peat moss from canada, lava rock, and good vermi compost and mixing your own soil is the way to go. Taking the easy route isnt always the easiest.
I have been using ProMix bales for a long time. Works very well for me. I use it for all of my container plants (flowers and veggies).
For my ganja plants I amend the ProMix with perlite and vermiculite. I also add dolomite lime.
Never had any type of contamination problem with ProMix.
