Some lights look yellow in pics

every time i take pics of the plants with the light on i get this yellow tint. it makes the leaves seem more yellow than they really are. if you have a Ca, Mg or K deficiency it shows super quick. when i take pics with just flash on they look great, all the leaves are green.

I understand the spectrum is not the same as the flash on the camera. it is not like the white lights from a CFL or whatever.however, so many pics from other people are not yellow. they look like they have white light in their tent. what gives?
I am running the s33 from ACI. Is this light ok? should it have a yellow tint or should it be white light that doesn’t change the color of the leaves in photographs. is there a benefit are drawback to having yellowish lighting?

thanks.

My ‘point and shoot’ has some adjustments (filters) it can apply for different light sources, fluorescent seemed to give OK results for my white LEDs.

It looks like that light uses the same Samsung diodes as all the other “full spectrum” leds. It’s a good light :+1:
Is the light only yellowish in pictures? Or are you saying the plants have a yellow look to them?

I have to turn my LED down to about 15%-20% to get a “green” real life looking picture. If I go above 20% it looks yellow.

My lights throw off the white balance on my phone if I stick the phone close to the growbox. If I back up from the growbox so that the camera sees some of the floor then it is able to “find white” because there are more reference colors.

For example the only difference in these two photos is about 2’ of distance.

I usually just photograph from further back then crop, or I can shoot closer then adjust the white balance in my photo editor.

If the lights are dimmer then the phone doesn’t have this problem and provides correct white balance even close up.

ya, is yellow in both pics and real life, but is green under normal light.

i can’t back up i have two tents facing each other in a closet with a 1.5 foot gap between them. crap.

My box IRL looks much more like the bottom photo than the top. It’s nowhere near that yellow.

it should be super dark green. i tried stepping back a bit.

In my HPS room I sometimes wait until just at lights out and haul my 600w MH into the room and hang it just so I can get some real light pics

I think just experience looking at pics on the internet allows one to “understand” a photo. Do the light box thing if you’re aiming for top tier photos, but here folks seem to know what’s going on despite cell phone shortcomings

Or this, that’s some dedication tho

@Pigeonman takes beautiful photos, if you need some disco ball turntable inspiration

This I think can be a useful tool, if you read it right? Sometimes one might find “a fresh perspective” useful

Maybe you’re missing a diode, what with that one near the back left corner, lol couldn’t resist, but I do think you should let that one live for science and bragging rights :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The yellow tint in your photos is likely due to the spectrum of your grow light. Different light spectrums can make plants look different colors in photos. While some people may have white light in their tent, others may intentionally use a yellowish light spectrum for specific benefits like promoting flowering or increasing resin production

:laughing::laughing: hahaha, awesome… I WILL let it live if its a female, I have the room and will document it, if it’s a male I will save some pollen and cull it. Then cross individual bramches of the remaining females. If it’s a genetic trait I may be on to something, bit it’s probably just a one off… time will tell!

Yeah, I’ve dealt with HPS and MH my whole life, opposite ends of the spectrum, lol. The LED always took slightly more yellow pics than the naked eye sees but I had just chalked that up to the spectrum the light threw. When I transplanted I turned the LED down for a day to let them adjust smoother and notice my pics were much more realistic. I dodnt think just dimming the light would make that much of a difference

you are thinking right about this. i can see all sorts of problems a week or two before i could in normal light.

The reflection off your air tube is likely throwing your camera off as its trying to compensate for the bright reflection.

i want to get a white one, but i need it to be pretty flexible. the turn to go out the tent and up to the vent isn’t big enough for the entire diameter…i have to bend it a little. not sure the white ones will allow for that. unless there is another option? I don’t’ have a lot of options on configuration due to space constraints.

You get this phenomenon with CFL/Neon too.

All the pics are made with an antic camera. First with 2100K and second with 6400K.
