Sour Bubble from the man, the legend, BOG

One if the best books series ever! :grin:

My only complaint @Jinglepot was the repetition in the books about the other books.
It still wasn’t as daunting as reading anything Tolkien.

So after 24 hours in RO 2 seeds have cracked. Fresh plates, new roll of paper towel, original heat mat and controller put back in place, humidity dome removed, fingers crossed.

Tolkien isn’t daunting. Its complicated and advanced reading. I LOVE his writing and storytelling. I mean who comes up with an entire language, AND 2500 years of pre-history for their stories? Ever read The Silmarillion? You think LOTR or the Hobbit was tough, don’t bother opening the Silmarillion! (btw I have read LOTR 8x, and Hobbit 4x now, you STILL notice new things after reading it multiple times)

Got every single finger crossed for you @DougDawson starting to cramp up, but no uncrossing until we’ve got mile long tails out of those things!

Kind of unrelated to the beans but relevant overall: I was just listening to the episode of the potcast featuring Barry from True Canna Genetics, and there’s a point in there where he mentions BOGs sour bubble specifically. It sounded like he was calling out BOG a little bit and was claiming that sour bubble was actually a cross of BOGS bubblegum with Bubba Kush, as opposed to a freak pheno of his bubblegum as he claimed. Even said that he heard BOG admitted it privately. He said all this and then also mentioned how much respect he has for BOG overall, so it didn’t sound like he was really going in hard on him, but it was intriguing to listen to, figured the heads in this thread might enjoy debating that one.

(Definitely not taking a shot at BOG myself either here just for the record, he was the man and I’m stoked to see his genetics preserved whatever their lineage is)

I have absolutely read the Simarillion! The “daunting” is the the level of description for some things like taking 3 pages to describe a spoon on a table.

Hobbit = afternoon read.
LOTR = read it twice.
Simarillion = Once is enough :laughing:

The older I got the more I got into reading short stories instead as I was able to get an entire narrative down in a sitting and then get onto a physical task. So I went back to 2 good old friends: HP Lovecraft & his pen pal Robert E. Howard.

There’s also this to listen to if you are into it; it’s a symphonic rock-opera covering the “War of the Jewels” from the Simarillion. One of the top 10 symphonic metal albums of all time to date.

(and yes the cover depicts Lúthien dancing in front of Morgoth :laughing: )

Ok, but that level of description… in LOTR when Frodo sees the possible future in the gazing pool with Galadriel. Dude, before I saw the movie, I envisioned it from reading it. When I saw the movie, it was as if I had seen it already, the movie nailed my imaginations version of that scene to a “T”… Thats also why I read LOTR multiple times LOL… (btw Peter Jackson did an amazing job in LOTR with the extended cuts staying true to the books, the hobbit took too many liberties including creating characters, ugh)

He completely lost me in the 3rd film by dismissing “the scouring of the shire” which was my fav part of the books as it emphasised that: “if the 4 hobbits didn’t leave their comfort zone they would have never been able to evolve into being able to physically save their comfort zone.”

Still pisses me off tbh.

All of this. If you need 1.5 pages to describe what a front door, that you never see again, looks like. you’re either getting paid by the word, or you can’t write very well.

I love all the history and backstory, but trying to read through it is super rough.

It’s also helpful to know ww1 history to get a reality based grounding for what inspired the work to begin with. Which adds to why i’m so “sour” about losing the scouring of the shire in the films.

Great job Doug. Roll with the punches. More plants just means we get more diversity.

I’ve listened to this and thought it very interesting indeed. Sleeping dogs and all that though haha

Yea must be! Haha, honestly if the herb is fire and the line is as inbred and consistent as all of BOGs gear is then who cares about where it came from. I feel like lineage matters more in unworked polyhybrids where people need a better sense of what they’re getting into and what they should be looking for. With properly worked genetics it’s like you should treat it like it’s own thing entirely. Just my thoughts though.

So after 20 hours in paper towel these Sour Bubble seeds are looking promising. Got my fingers crossed this does not crash and burn like the last batch. already seeing nice tails on a couple.

What do you all normally do when a tap root curls like that? Do you plant tap root pointing down like normal even though the seed is now pointed in the wrong direction?

I always try to have it facing in the direction it leaves the seed. But I honestly don’t think it matters to be honest. I have had the hit the side of the hole, an land upside down. I just cover it and she always finds the correct way. I think it would be more harmful to dick around with it than to let it be.
