Spider mite and diatomaceous earth

Day 2…no sign of life on any of the plants I’ve checked :+1::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Thanks to everyone for some additional help. My pyrethrin is working okish. Still around 1 month later, not a final knockout, but I think outside plants keeps them refreshed. This DE will likely be the answer for me.

Bad year for mites of all kinds around here. Many people are so mite bitten they look like shotgun victims. And my seed run start is delayed.

I use a spray called Naturen that I can buy in the supermarket here in Portugal.
One application just before lights out and the critters are gone for good and you wouldn’t know the difference looking at the plants.

Another application of de. Very generous when applying.

Will give it another week and then hose down the plants.

Daytime temps in the garden are well above 20c…so all eggs have probably hatched by now. Might even do a rinse on saturday and call.it done.

Looks like I’ll be trying this tactic next. I looked after the baptism and saw a tiny white mite crawling around. It’s war.

Ouch that sucks I’m sorry buddy can u get rid of them or is it to late

Yeah I’ll get rid of them eventually. It’s not a death sentence just a problem that if you aren’t ahead of it can ruin a grow.

Day 16 or 18 or something…no sign of any mites. Dust still all over…

It’s.not the prettiest or cleanest method…but it’s effective. Will not be washing the de off…but rather, blowing it off with an air compressor.

Another week later and i havent blown the plants down…just gonna let it ride. Nonsign of mite activity. Anything that looks like dots or affected leaves is just remaining de.

Im even so confident, that i swapped some smaller plants and larger plants around in the closets…mixing the mite plants with clean plants. This is also a test to see if the clean plants all of a sudden get infested. This would.indicate that mites werent killed.
Will update in another week.
Mixed plants in smaller closet

See my grow.journal for.more pics of the garden

Looking good. I am about to do another round of de to my plants today.

I have not experienced spider mites yet and thankful for that. I did purchase some trifecta crop control that should be safe to use till the last two weeks of flowring. All plant based oils.

No mites on any old.plants and no mites on any of the clean plants i mixed with treated plants.

The only downside this time around is i applied heavily, so some leaves either got “clogged” or the de ph caused some burn/leaf discoloration.

Bottom line is, 2 applicqtions of DE and a dusting in the grow space itself and spider mite problem is no longer a problem.

Hope this helps some folks.

Tip. The puffer bottles of DE go for $10-$15 each…find an animal feed place and buy a 10kg bag for $20…much cheaper.

This is what i use.

My spidermites are also gone after de treatment. I went hack and slash too though so one treatment of de then a couple days later a peroxide spray to kill eggs.

The fungus gnats are back but I think they’re going to get dealt with this weekend.

My spider mite issue lasted from late spring until 1 week ago. Used pyrethrin and kill them back but not exterminated. I first removed leaves heavily. Many sprays later I tried d.e. the little boogers would make webs under the stuff and i would coat it heavier and more webs.

Then i took them outside and sprayed them heavily with the hose and my hand cupped to concentrate the splash. Very violent. Covered soil with plastic. Then I moved to another tent and sprayed with pyrethrin again. I think they are gone. And a lost coast oil spray as well. They have set my next seed run back 2 months. Maybe only 1 indoor crop this winter.

Harvest is around the corner.
Some are pretty much ready.

Heres gods space needle x pre98 bubba

.
Can see the de on the stalk still

.
…and de still on leaves and leaf stems…no mite wants to walk over broken glass and razor blades. :skull_and_crossbones:

.
.
The treated plants that were put in with the clean plants are also wrapping up. The clean plants remained clean!

On this topic, I cant seem to get ride of spider mites ever. Recently had to toss out a few plants (herbs like Rosemary & Tyme) due to excessive spidermites.

Ive used everything I can think of and makes me not want to grow anything inside. They just keep coming back its been atleast 3 yrs now of seeing them sporadically.

DE can also be made into a effective spray .
Mix one Tbsp into a litre of water
A couple drops of soap can also be added but not essential…
Then shake bottle constantly while spraying
Sometimes if your nozzle on sprayer is very fine it can get blocked.
Once water evaporates it’ll leave behind a fine layer that’ll nuke any mites.
Stuff works…
