Hope this ok if not my apologies!
I have a box of steel 9mm, 115gr Winchester and from what I was told Glocks play nice with them. Currently I don’t have a Glock…Would be willing to meet up S.E U.S.

That’s not even close to true! Steel cased ammo causes all kinds of problems with older firearms and many modern ones. Prolonged use leads to extractor problems and chamber scaring. I’ve seen steel cased ammo stuck in the chamber so badly the barrel had to be mounted in a vice and the case driven out with a punch and hammer. Not to mention that steel cased ammo is cheap and unreliable at best do not rely on it in your personal protection weapon.
I carry a s&w m&p pro series .40, I keep one golden sabre in the chamber and one more behind that in the mag, then 14 hydrashock behind that, spare mag has 5 hst (read black talon) and 10 fmj behind those.
The golden sabre are known for fragmentation, maximum internal damage to end the fight, the hydrashock are what the cops use so why not, black talon were outlawed because of the massive damage they do but we’re rebranded and are available again. The ending with fmj is because after I’ve shot your friends you’re probably going to be hiding behind something and I’ll need the extra punch to get some lead in your diet.
Don’t forget to replace your defense ammo every year! When your life depends on it you want to make sure it goes bang every time
I love this thread …I’m protecting my crop with a crossbow and my knuckle dusters!
Not by my own choice of course! I’m a felon and there goes my right to protect my family. The original felony was for distribution of Marijuana . Now the state sells 250k $ licenses to grow money. All the while Maryland medical patients get screwed and ran by people like Berner! I am fighting in Annapolis to restore gun rights to mmcc patients who currently had to give up the right to purchase any new guns. Its bullshit. We deserve the right to grow our own meds. Plus the right to bear arms. Weither we smoke cannabis or not!!! That shouldn’t have a thing to do with!!
America seems to be accepting cannabis quite a bit better recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if I can live out my Willie Nelson fantasy of riding a horse in the back 40, pistol on my hip, joint in my hand and a smile on my face.
But forgiving… I don’t see nearly as much push for forgiveness. I still think it’ll come, but it is hard to see it take a back burner.
Oh Dear, lmfao!
I didn’t mean to spark up a debate, there’s plenty of that on the gun forums.
I’m not claiming one is better than the other…
The main reason is this.
The ranges will not allow you to shoot steel rounds. Ya know, all in the chase of the almighty dollar!
If they didn’t didn’t want them combined in the same tin, then simply use a magnetic rake, problem solved.
But I don’t want to debate that, it’s not my range, they can do what they like. And the fact that shooting at a piece of paper (indoors) is about as fun as watching paint dry, imo
The other reason is most of those will be fired in a Sphinx my uncle gave me. I don’t mind using it in the cheaper Ruger’s or even my Sig P320.
The Sphinx seems to have a lot of haters…That doesn’t bother me, as I didn’t pay for the gun but I know what it’s worth.
And love em or hate em, it out shot, 2 rugers and the Sig. Which imo, is due to the grip, it just feels so much more confident, in my hand. Plus the da/sa, at 4ish pounds make it much easier for me to shot.
Off topic I know, but I do wish there was more aftermarket parts for it. As of now there is next to nothing.
The Sig is alright, I just don’t care for, the grip and the higher barrel, forgot the proper name…
To sum up…
IMO, some steel through the Sphinx is fine but I’d really like to put it through it paces. Haven’t got a chance to use it much at all, maybe two mags…
Can one mail ammo???
You can pull up all the manufacturer data you want, they won’t tell you their product is shit. You can read the books I’ll rely on real world first hand experience. How much experience do you have with firearms? I myself shoot over 1000 rounds a month and build a couple a month. I’ve built 1911s from 80% frames and know exactly what the tolerances are as well as what the parts are made from. You can claim new softer steel as why they don’t get stuck in the chamber, it’s all in the coating that is on the case and it works, sometimes. You were right about one thing and one thing only, a single box of 50 won’t wear things out, however that very first one could be the one that gets stuck in the chamber. Had that happen before
Yes you can ship ammo as of now, that will change when Mr dimentia takes office
I like point and play, .357 S&W snub With 5 FMJ. Wife and daughters know where it’s at and how to use it. Takes out of the equation any safety’s, shells not chambered, jambs Or operator interface errors under stress. Ended up being my daily carry too as in most instances it was for construction in bad neighborhoods Where main worry was car jacking. Stubby fits right between truck seats firmly and will go through two sheets of door steel a pane of safety glass. Before eviscerating any unsuspecting criminals center body mass all before the second tap of that 9mm on my window.
Downside is permanent hearing loss…
I’d keep it if I were you. Ammo is getting hard to come by and expensive af. Tula steel cased $0.60-0.70/rd can’t even find my defense rds anywhere(hst tactical 124gr +p) but they were $1/rd when I bought a box 2 months ago.
You still haven’t addressed the problem with shit steel cased ammo getting stuck in the chamber. Even old firearms can handle a few steel cases. You keep mentioning chamber. That’s not the only part of a firearm that will be worn out by cheap shit ammo. That is unless in your Uber experience you have found unobtanium extractors that never wear on steel cases. Promote shit ammo that could cost you your life in a defense situation all you want. Anyone that thinks steel cased ammo of any vintage is as good of quality as brass cased ammo is a fool
I’m still trying to find that part in the second ammendment. Bastard government.
Sorry you had to go through thay bro. That sucks.
I’m assuming you would need to declare that you are shipping live ammo.?. I mean it would make since…So if it’s that much to ship then it doesn’t make since and I’ll just keep it.
All this started when I went to the range the other day. I’ve been out of the loop regarding firearms for a while and to be honest was unaware of the issue with steel vs brass.
I’m pretty sure I got played out there and I’m normally pretty good a sussing out BS.
First one of the guys came out to the range, to fix the wire/transport for the target. Then he said he’d swap that steel for brass so I could shoot more as they only let me buy one box.
I said ok sure that’s fine but in a blasé way, he could tell I didn’t know the debate between steel and brass.
Then he changed it to "I’m a certified So and So and has a outdoor place to shoot. It’s been nearly two decades since I messed around with handguns.
Growing up I mostly used a 30-06, 30-30 and various shotguns.
So basically he offered a class “training” whatever. The only reason I said yes was because I needed some help with accessories on the Sig p320.
Like red dot/laser sites, flashlight and if there was anything we could do to modify the grip.
After thinking about it over the weekend I texted him and said someone wanted to buy it and I need my ammo back. As they made me surrender it before going back.
At that time I was unaware of the ammo shortage, I just don’t follow it like I used to.
Thx BTW for all who chipped in!
So I’ll just keep it…Unless someone is driving by and wants to swap a box or two, I’m off of I-75, S.E.
And yeah be careful as if you have to get into it and end up in court…They will screw you if you consume canna or any controlled substance.
If anyone has any advise on a top mounted laser site or grip mods, pls let me know.
Thanks Again to all!
Edited to say: The sights would be for the p320 and grip. I’m unaware of anything for the Sphinx, aftermarket wise.?.
FYI: The Sig p320 is the Compact version, original, not the X series.
The Sphinx is also a Compact, SPD, regular version.
You are supposed to declare it I believe. You don’t have to do anything.
Its expensive if you declare it, not so much if you don’t. I didn’t get caught.
I use cheap steel stuff for the range without issue. Wouldn’t carry with it though.
I’ll just throw in my 1 cent. I’ve shot a few rounds through my glock and it was fine (50) because it was what I had. Now I stay away from it, and just use the cheap brass stuff for range time.
I do have a few boxes in the shtf bag.
Edc should be self defense rounds, in brass cases. Also you should know not to use handloads for edc either. It helps a DA paint a picture of you in an unfavorable light if they decide to take it that route. Yes, change them out every year or two. The price of a box of ammo shouldn’t be more than your life.
Had a legitimate no BS scare this am. I work at night and usually rap up around 7:00am. I don’t smoke in the house, so I setup a desk in the garage and it’s not that bad.
Esp since I put a keroscene heater in there, btw Keroscene is $$$ AF around here…$-4-5 a gal.
So I went in and opened the garage door around 6:00am just to get the smoke out an all. About 10 mins later I was heading back out to close the door and finish up.
Just before I started up the stairs I heard a lot of noise going on from the garage area. I’ve got a lot of landscaping equipment in there and we had some vehicle break-ins 6 months ago.
I normally keep everything loaded and kept in a bag. Well I had just been to the range so everything was empty.
So I’m scrambling around trying to find some ammo…Happened to find ONE FMJ, so slapped it in and ran outside.
It was the damn USPS dropping packages off on the front porch at 6:30ish
I think I’m going to keep FMJ loaded instead of Hydroshocks. Just in case sort-a thing. I mean if someone was shot, a hollow point will Fuc u up and might kill whomever.
But the prob with FMJ’s are they keep going, so you would need to keep that in mind.
Just a thought…
Seriously though if anyone is traveling via I-75 in the S.E I will make it worth your wild on a trade!!!
I just haven’t been able to use these Much and my old spots are now gone.
Oh and the stupid arse range won’t let you do any sort of rapid fire either! WTF!?!
Always verify your target and what is behind your target before you ever pull the trigger.
If you ever really need it, you want to be shooting the good stuff. Although, well placed fmj will do the job.
My mags are always loaded with a mix of FMJ and Self defense rounds, a laser also helps place rounds on target quickly and effectively.
Never use your home/personal ammo at the range.
Cant say this is good advice. You should always fire any new to you ammo through your everyday carry gun to make sure it functions properly before depending on it to protect your life.
