Just wondering if others have an opinion on the best time of “day” to top/tie/weave or even clone a plant? Eg lights on, before first feed? Or after 1 or two feeds? Half way through light cycle? Any experience and information is much appreciated. Cheers
When training the plant (tie/weave) its best to do it right BEFORE its next watering…The lack of water will make the plant more pliable and able to bend and snake around without breaking. You can do this anytime in the plants life.
Topping can be done anytime as well. I would recommend after its third set of leaves.
Many topics on cloning, and everyone has their own protocols with their setups. This is dependent on you.
@Roux Thanks mate…
Advice from a seasoned grower. Run with that one.
That would explain why my plant with the most dense cola was falling over the other day. I was drying out the soil. I’ll be doing a drench with mosquito bits tomorrow on the next watering.
I’m probably too far into flowering to tie down any of them, so I’ll work on keeping the stems strong to support the weight of the buds instead.
You’re NEVER too far in to train and tie your tops down. Especially right now when they’re screaming for light penetration.
@Roux said it best. Wait until just before watering and check out @Mr.Sparkle diary, my diary, @toastyjakes diary as we all have documented our training techniques recently. Mine is 4 weeks from harvest and im still making slight training adjustments daily.
I’ll have to buy some ties then. I want to even out the canopy and spread it out a bit to help with light penetration. They have just been so rigid I thought I wasn’t able to anymore until I saw Harmony almost falling over on Ingrid.
Cheers lads…I’ll have a read through those diaries you suggested @TrevorLahey thanks. Next watering is 2 hours from now @Roux so I’ll tie before that. And I do hope Ingrid and Harmony are in good health @OniTenshu…haha
They are. Ingrid is going to yeild low unless she bulks up fast. Otherwise she’s growing nice. Harmony though is just ridiculous. I can’t wait until it’s harvest time
@ozzie @Roux was on point, definitely done best before your next watering as it makes it easier, as right afterwards its actually pretty easy to snap stems when they are engorged with water.
Sound advice once again from members…although I have little in experience to compare it to, they certainly are flexible!
6 hours under lights and they have responded well I think. Should I flatten out the main stem again in next couple of days or LITFA for a week? I think my tie down technique needs some more thought put into it…or does it usually take a few times to train the stem to flatten out more? Or is a flat stem even what my goal should be? Haha…thanks fellas and sorry I can see some eye rolls.
