The Automation Station [Everything Sonoff and Automation Related]

Me again. Get where water wouldn’t

This is basically a wiring setup designed for a UK 240v circuit. But many aspects are transferrable to other electrical systems globally of you have enough relevant knowledge of your mains system.

Once you have your layout. Drill. Jigsaw and bolt where necessary.

I like to use household plug sockets for ease of switching appliances.

I built up a box for my unit to keep it tidy in my tardis grow. Clamp and glue. You can use prefab boxes or whatever you well please really.

Toggle the s6 switch from 0 to 1
Toggle k5 switches all from 0 to 1. ( Pushing the little switches with the top of a screwdriver under the yellow film)

Pay attention to the wiring here. This will be the method you would want to use.and gives a much better visual aid than my wiring ever will.

Dress it in suitable OG clobber. Slaps are always good.

At this stage I added the ring for the ammeter (that still doesn’t seem to work)

Run your negative in a continuous chain. As very poorly depicted in my pictures. And the same with the live inputs to each channel. (These go in the COM slot) with the live out going to each channels plug sockets. Earth is also a continuous daisy chain as depicted with colour coded wire.

The brown is the live to ammeter. And the grey is the live to the sonoff th16 you see wired ready to have a tube heater wired straight in.

Download the ewelink app from the app store and once installed choose quick pairing. Hold the button on whichever sonoff device youre pairing until you get a solid blue light. Then hit quick pairing on the app. Within a short time you should be ready to sell your parameters. Names of channels. Scenes etc.

A few things to bare in mind…
These run on 433.33mhz which isn’t that long a range so be prepared to use a wireless extender. And if you do you may well need to set up port forwarding to use whilst you’re away from the wifi zone.

Hope this helps a few people.

Cola buddy wanted to clear this up,
The run on 2.4ghz wifi. (this is b/g/n) (and yes, the range does suck, a wifi extender is recommended if you don’t have a good router)
The 433.33 mhz is for the optional RF remote (clicky button remote much like a garage door opener works), not to be confused with the wifi signal type the device needs to pair.

Great tutorial and honestly with all the pics everything is easy to follow

I’ll share my setup as well.

Flower Setup

Row 1: Left to Right
Plug 1/Channel 1: Lights
Plug 2/Channel 2: Camera
Plug 3/Channel 3: Extraction
Plug 4/Channel 4: Ventilation (inside cab)

Row 2: Left to Right
Plug 1&2 are always active, non controlled outlets.
Plug 3/TH16 1: Pump for flood and drain (This has a temperature probe to measure res temp)
Plug 4/TH16 2: Airstone for res. (this has a combo humidity/temp sensor to measure environment)

Proof you don’t have to have Cola level skills to make one of these work.

This pic shows the following sonoff gear.
Middle grey-ish box, Sonoff 4ch Pro R2
White Left top box: Sonoff Pow (Power monitoring and the main “breaker” to the whole panel)
Bottom two white boxes: Sonoff TH16’s

I made a twistlok connector for my power into the cab.

The main screen for the flower cab: This is basically command central!

The view of the Sonoff Pow and it’s energy monitoring record.

Here you can see I zoomed into the current day.

Devices that are currently off are with a back background as well as the button saying “off”

Devices that are active are blue background as well as the button reflecting the current state of things.

And example of my pump schedule/loop timer. Comes on 15 minutes after lights on, for 30 minutes, every 24 hours. Handy for once a day flood.

A good mix of digital/analog to create “conditional” flood and drain. I didn’t want my clone table flooding during the 6 hours of darkness. Currently Sonoffs do not have the ability to “if this device is off, don’t run this device” level of control so my solution was to use a plain digital timer (not “smart”) to control power to my pump sonoff on the clone table. No power means no program. A perfect example of the handiness to be done with sonoffs.

Digital timer (not pictured) set to 18/6
Sonoff has loop timer to run 10 minutes on the hour.
Pump only runs during the 18hrs of lights on.

There’s a lot you can do with these amazing and CHEAP devices.

Of course we’ve all seen my grow cam too, I don’t know if it falls into the “Automation station” category but it allows me to check in on my plants while i’m on the road.
I use a Zmodo Cam pictured in the right hand near the top.

Gives me “this” capability too. (not directly, have to stich the images together with a seperate program)

If anyone has any questions, I’ll do my best to help out.

Wow the two of you don’t muck about. @anon58740919 @Jellypowered some impressive work gents.

Jam packed full of useful info.🖒🖒

Thanks for clarifying brother. Either way the range is pretty shitty. Nice other tutorial for stateside circuits there too. We like this. Need @reikoX to come to this d**k measuring contest with his bluefish rig up now and shame us both

I’ve also placed @Mr.Sparkle on the “need to contribute” to this thread list as well lol.

My turn! I followed suit with the Sonoff as well.

Everything comes into the Sonoff-POW from the extension cord, this way I can monitor all the power usage.

That splits off to the two 4ch (one for each side) and the Sonoff for the exhaust fan. The Sonoff for the exhaust fan has a speed controller on it. It is connected to the fan along with both TH16. This way if either chamber is too hot, the TH16 will kick in the fan at full power. Otherwise, the fan will run at the speed set by the controller, currently all the way down. Each 4ch has a channel for the plugs inside the chamber, a channel for the TH16, a channel for the veg driver, and a channel for the flower driver.

I also have the Zmodo wifi camera. Let’s me see my plants anywhere.

Then I will up the anti with a Bluefish LED controller. It allows me to adjust the drivers from my phone. I can also program in sunrise, sunset, and evening. I could even use it to simulate weather and photoperiod of a specific location. Pretty cool piece of tech.

Can I have a go?? Not as automated as the rest of you all but at the minute I’m running a sonoff pow to keep an eye on the lights power usage and also used as a timer.

A TH16 gifted to me from @anon58740919 controlling a thermo tube for lights out and also so I can keep an eye on humidity and temperature.

Soon I’ll add the 4 channel pro wired up to 4 double sockets mounted to a piece of mdf to control it all with a sonoff basic to control my mini tent light schedule. :+1:

Ooh double sockets you flash git

Nice thread lad. Really need to study up on this as I without a doubt have the electrical knowledge. Just need to figure out what I need as far as the electronic components

I have a very simple Sonoff 4ch setup in my current cab which you can check out in the first post here:

Just the 4ch, not the pro, not the th16, not the POW either but it does the job!

Ha ha  I have 2 rvks, 2 ossolating fans, a desktop fan, your solstrip build, an air pump and soon to add your cola cubes into the gown area mate. Extensions are an option but I’d rather it all was looking neat :+1:
Edit - I’ve also a small dehumidifier on its way I’ll need a socket for. I’ve not got any humidity problems but it’s still a little higher than I’d like it to be.

@TrevorLahey that’s not for long. Because you won a 4ch pro r2 and a sonoff. With that awesome eminem entry  I will be getting these out but may well need a week or 2 yet lol. Whether you got a super simple setup or the ISS like @ReikoX it’s a step to making our grow lives easier.

@Esrgood4u I forgot you’re a go big or go home kinda guy lol. I am running a similar amount of stuff just over 2 rooms spaced pretty far apart so the single sockets work for me very well.

@Badfishy1 cheers mate. This is your one stop shop for any information or assistance you need for your own automation setup. We make a good head between us I guess lol.

It’s like that meat loaf song goes. “I would do anything for love…but I won’t show flop. no I won’t show flop”

My wake and bake working then

Saying that my Mrs pulled it out the other day and said let me try something. Pressed it on her thumbnail and said “ooh it does feel like one of my jelly stampers” ffs

Man it’s gonna be awesome! The new parts will go in the new tent and grow #2 begins! Ive been wanting to try the TH16s out too so I’m really excited, I love their products.

One of us needs to reflash these some day and see what else we can make them do! I have the FTDI boards here but not sure if it’s worth losing the sonoff fw just to pick up a few features like shorter intervals.

I’ve been considering a reflash. But I’m so deep in other projects right now I just can’t ha. Did eventually manage to figure a very cost effective way to hopefully get the cnc mini mill running. by ridding myself of the idea for Mach 3 as a program. And deciding on GRBL. sorry for the tangent there still kinda automation related I guess. It will still be a week or 2 before I get these out btw but I’ll let you know when they’re on the way. What’s in the new tent setup?
