The Cheap and Efficent LED Lighting Thread

Read a couple articles or diys on bonsai mother plants the other day. Might be worth a search for you.

I was going to start a thread or poll to see who, if anyone is diy’ing led lights still. But this is probably the best thread. I have some parts (boards, drivers, etc.) and am trying to figure out what to do with. I duno if i should get what’s needed to build something with these or if it’s cheaper to just buy something pre-built. Can I post my thoughts here?

Go ahead it’s what the treads for , even if mainly for now commercial options, doesn’t mean we can’t discuss the diy route.

Like I just redid the layout of my bridgelux f90 strips for two cabinets over the weekend, normally I run them on aluminum backers but just decided to affix them to the roof of two of my cabinets for better distribution than what I had, down side is they will run warmer and more light passage between chambers because of my design of them, though more headroom and better distribution especially the edges that my last layout had issues with.

Hello everybody

Please I have a question about LEDs

I have a button to switch red+ir+uv lights

My question is, when do I need them ? Vegetative and flower step ?

Thank you and good year everybody

Hey, far red is needed half past the flowering stage …I would switch on two hours before lights out. In nature at high altitudes in the morning plants get a good dose of uv radiation …not sure how uv and ir is useful in a indoor situation :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi there i hope im right here I’m searching for an new led for an 4x4 or 5x5.

I was thinking about the fce 8000 from mars hydro until i heard someone brought the fc 8000 for 600 two weeks earlier.

Kingbrite only has everything on one channel so you can control the uv and i r light only together with the main light.

Philzon doesn’t have the the new lm301h chibs.

So you have some ideas?
( im in europe)

Thanks already guys.

(the person who recommended the light i buy later gets some sour biker f2 from karma genetics)

So you have an name or so? I onky find channel leds with buttons Control… I wont get 4 times daily to te tent for ir. Or uv.

mars fce 8000 is my first led ever. i chose the fce over the fc8000 because the fce has more red /far red than the fc8000
coco for cannabis does an excellent review https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/grow-light-guide/mars-hydro-fc-e8000-par-and-epar-tests-and-review/

if you are patient you can score a good deal on ebay direct from mars hydro. with the sale / discount i paid $365 free shipping for the fce8000.

Thank you i wrote them to ask about tjere chips… Sadly no information

came direct from mars hydro on ebay. shipped from / out of new york got it in 3 days. i am sure they have other warehouses in the usa also. i stuck with direct from mars hydro to ensure it was not counterfeit or rejected clearance second quality. factory warranty 5yrs.

i sorta recall i got it on 420 promotion [april] it was open bid item that i got for around $435 and they had 20% off for 420 event got it down to $365. it was a chicken dinner winner for sure. still stoked about it. got my first grow going under it. it relaced 2 600w hps. the seedlings are loving it at 25% setting. getting close to taking off for veg. i have twice the light energy for way way less power consumption. even if i turn it up to 75% during flower cuts my power bill in half.

if you havent already check out that link / review. it shows competitor market ranking for other manufactures.

edit: just saw your location not sure what a good deal is over there?

I’m currently running 2 FC8000s in my flower room without issues so far. Was that or spider farmers. The mars happen to be on sale at the time when I got them. Plan on grabbing a 3rd for the veg room unless I find a spider on sale.

The BESTVA 2024 Upgraded BP2000 I recently purchased is still going fine.

Here in europe they sadly dont are really active on ebay, i wrote them on alibaba but in the moment there is until 17.02 only emergency support threw the luna/new year… They said they are back at the 17.02.

@Inflorescence
On how much space you use them?
And do you have experience with the uv/ir upgrades?
Im thinking of maybe getting instead the fc8000 the fc1000 the only disadvantage is the not able to upgraded the uv/ir but you can extend the led on 4x7 feet… Which brings me some stupid ideas :innocent:

Did you ever run them at100% ?

Looks nice I have 1xs 1500 pro and one xs 1500.

@Villiager I run the 8000s from 4x4 to 5x5 depending how packed. I haven’t messed with any UV/IR yet. Once I get my electrical upgraded and all lights switched over to LED I’ll play with some extra UV/IR.
