they take advantage of your passion and use it to justify their exploitation.
I wonder if they destroy it with fire.
In a slow, incremental, and roundabout way…I intend to.
Aha! In league with the monopolists!
Concrete sounds horribly inefficient. I once had to dispose of a concrete patio and almost broke a rental truck. True story.
Can’t they just use hot vinegar or is this some kind of mandate from up high?
I pressed him about it and they can’t sell it or return it, has to be destroyed. Now…I don’t have the laws handy but I imagine the destruction of which is loosely written. My legal expertise is mostly bird law…but I have a hard time believing you need to weigh and destroy the product in view of a state representative of some kind. And how can you prove you destroyed something? By definition it wouldn’t be around anymore.
IDK 25K+ worth of product I bet I’m not the only person working there thinking about it lol.
I have a good oregano/concrete recipe for your dude. Stories like that make the poor saps in the buckeye state cringe.
This is what happens to every industry that doesn’t want to pay a living wage. It is exactly why the Cabot golf course owners sit on the provincial immigration board. Locals don’t want to work for seasonal minimum wage . So the county , the province , and the federal government , have all spent many many millions , at least 40 , in tax dollars , to employ a bunch of temporary foreign workers.
Labor issues only exist because some snake in a suit thinks they deserve the pie . Enjoy your crumbs
I know, it’s sad.
I’ve heard seasonal workers say “its great I just work the summer and get EI in the winter. This is not a comment on how EI is bad in a general way, it’s about businesses that use EI as part of their business model. It makes my skin crawl.
The standard response is if you can’t afford to pay a living wage then maybe you shouldn’t be in business.
That is the only model used in this part of the world. Deckhands on lobster boats work the season for high stamp. No wage no nothin , just get to draw the highest EI for the rest of the year lol
Then there are a shit ton of stupid tourist outfits that use the same model. Then there are a ton of government funded groups and projects that also use the same model .
On top of that the real estate here is insane , with a ridiculous amount of million $+ summer homes that sit empty most of the year . Mobile homes going for 250k lmao Most places are being bought for on average 4 x assessed value by people who will never even see it.
When I bought my place several years ago the next closest offer to mine was more then double mine. I got it because I knew the people.
Anyway how is that for a stoned morning rant ? haha
It is too early for me also.
On a slightly different note, and about economic disparity, there is a place here called Rosedale Valley with 10 million dollar homes. These homes back onto a beautiful valley that every summer becomes a makeshift homeless camp. Every summer this camp gets removed by police. Then after there is an environmental initiative to “clean up rosedale valley.” They use youthful volunteers who are passionate about the environment to clean up the back yards of rich people. For free.
It’s crazy.
They need to start HEAVILY taxing homes you don’t live in full time. People live in houses, it shouldn’t be a place to park money for the rich, foreign and domestic.
20% annual tax assessment for every home you own after 1 that isn’t being actively rented.
Oh sure they’ll work around it with shell companies and other legal maneuvers but housing is getting out of control for half the country and something needs to be done, and I cry no tears for those with summer homes. As long as the taxes hurt more than they generate in speculative investment, it should work. As liberal as I am, I find it reprehensible rich people set up shop in places like San Fran, then vehemently oppose any construction that could reduce housing costs. NIMBYism at its finest. Sorry you have to live near poor people lol. It’s Kafkaesque.
It could backfire and cause rents to skyrocket. Just passing costs on all the way down.
I believe I’ve of heard such a plan (I don’t remember the numbers) being considered for vacant properties but I doubt it’ll get off the ground.
I live in a building that’s half empty. I know this because half the building never has any lights on. It’s mental.
Edit - it’s a 1% tax in Toronto.
Sure it could. It’s crazy what people can and will do to get around laws.
But hell inflation is 2% in a good year, 1% is just cost of doing business level. 20% would put the screws to 'em. Incentivize actively renting rather than just holding and speculation. Essentially cut the speculation out. No way you’re gonna hold a million dollar condo to park money if it costs 20% of value per year.
But there’s ways around everything. I was reading Berlin has strict rent controls but people will charge for the furnishings. So the apartment is at the rent limit but in order to buy it you need to purchase…say…10K for the furnishings and appliances to move in. It’s illegal but not actively enforced.
Almost everything is a scam the question is to what degree.
As per the labor in cannabis issues, hand trimmed is going to be the next “fair trade” or “gmo free”. Machine trimmed will be the standard. Varieties that have little to no leaf will continue to dominate the commercial market. While indoor will always have a market, maybe its wishful thinking, but I think outdoor and dep prices are going to crater in all markets, which is going to make it economically unfeasible for most of the corporate entities to operate. They promised wayyyyy too high of returns to their investors.
But they won’t die quietly, expect a massive ramp up in smear campaigns and lobbying against black markets. Imagine what Budweiser would do if suddenly homebrewing became 100x more popular.
At the beginning of covid the alcohol rubbing hoarders would sell pennies and include a free bottle of hand sanitizer to get around it.
I think you’re right about outdoor. Sheer volume. I hate trimming. It’s unpleasant arthritis creating work and I can’t imagine doing it as a full time job. Enter temporary foreign workers.
This is already happening in Ontario by the govt. it’s a smear camping against black markets and features a guy selling meat
“hey, man you wanna buy some meat?”
“What kind of meat is it?”
“It’s MEAT, man”
Narrator - you wouldn’t buy meat this way so why would you buy cannabis this way?
I would buy meat this way because I’m a meat expert and could tell with a glance and a feel if it’s any good.
The vast majority of foreign owned properties here have zero dollars paid in taxes. I actually have million and billionaire neighbors who pay no taxes on their insane properties. We are well over 60% foreign owned in my county.
So the flip side of the coin is having no taxes also artificially inflates property value which has resulted in zero places for rent outside of air BnB and vacation homes , and a buying prices that is out of the grasps of actual working people here.
I don’t think anyone should expect this plant to pay their bills for them.
And if they think opening up global exports is going to help, they’re just dumb.
How many cut flower operations were in New England in the 70’s? (Answer: Dozens)
How many are left after free-trade? (Answer: 1, last I asked, surviving on govt assistance because all their employees are autistic and they offer tours.)
What happened to the California Cut Flower Commission? The Boston Flower Exchange?
To think you can compete with third world wages and infinitely better growing environments is foolish.
Wonder how long before the companies are lobbying to import foreign basically-slave-labor grown cheaper weed at $100/kilo. And keep their exclusive licenses to dispense of course.
Trimmed by Chinese prisoners like the Christopher Ranch garlic peelers.
Matter of time. “We pass the savings onto you!”
They sell $50 eighths, well not to me but I am fortunate and grateful to be able to grow my own especially with the support and genetics from OG
Wow I need to look up and learn about the garlic slaves, geez
Bro they sell $55 eighths at the Cookies store here allll day long. Plus taxes…which are significant.
Oh yeah. Garlic slaves. It sounds made up but it’s very real.
