Lots of salt on the roads already had 2 deaths of people drowning on a lake fell through the ice . Not sure why anyone would chance a lake this early in the winter?

Oh man! I hate hearing that. Ya it’s barely even winter. In fact it’s not , definitely wouldn’t be venturing out there. That’s just a suicide mission imho . Sad though, I almost lost a good friend a few years back when he went to check a huge crack in the shelf that was preventing us from crossing Lake of Bays, I sat on my snowmobile while he went to investigate and before I could react he dissapeared! I ran so fast, slid like 30 feet, 10 past the whole I was running so fast then lay down and reached in. Luckily it was shallow enough he sprung back up and grabbed me, he’s 250 , just jacked to begin with . Add like 100 pounds of wet clothes and the ice just kept breaking back, thank god there was a super thick crust where the ice had joined and recovered recently cuz it gave me enough stability to pull his ass out slowly, then we had a 15-20 min (at like 100kmh) trip back to the cabin. That shit was scary af and gave me a whole new perspective of the ice and safety around it. We even went out and made two bags to carry with us with picks, rope, collapsible walking sticks etc. and ALWAYS carry a dry set of clothes and a few of those thermal blankets as well as fire starting equipment. Hopefully I/we never need it but better safe than sorry for sure.

Wow! That’s crazy. Glad he survived.

Just wanted to put this out there. On thin ice I slide my feet like I’m skating. I’ve noticed that by not lifting and stepping I can get across thinner ice.
Glad your buddy survived.
Must be a new mentality, I’m seeing levels of stupidity I’ve never seen before in all areas, but especially driving

Me too brother, I would have been devastated. He thanked me for months and months after. He’s a whole different guy on the ice now too

Way too early to be on the water, that’s crazy. My truck doesnt touch the ice until i see most of the shacks are up and my buddy has his first holes drilled. Our shoreline is just freezing up, but we got dumped on a couple weeks ago and it’s not quite all gone.
