TopShelfs trees (Part 4)

No doubt, same at the cottage . The other ones stick to the dump and their hunting grounds way away from society but the little guys come right out of the woods, up on the porch, looking in the windows, digging shit up, they see people and just go on about their business it’s hilarious. (We only have black bears and not particularly big ones just far from the dump

They have dumped so many nuance bears in my area they are usually around. My neighbor had a bear opening a window to get in her garage for the garbage. DEC put a trap out for weeks and she would not go near it… how she got here the first time :rofl:

That’s about the size of our black bears as well.

I would say 800lb on an average big brown bear.
They do get huge though, especially the Kodiak and coastal brown bears.
The record is 751 kg (1,656 lbs) and had a hind foot measurement of 46 cm (18 inches) about 10 feet standing on 2 legs.

Male coastal brown bears commonly weigh from 800 to 1,200 pounds, while females are generally between 400 to 700 pounds.

It’s actually scary how quick and quiet they are!! Grey squirrels are noisier than a 300+ black!

My personal best is 5 back when they were bad around our place but I have buddies that are professional predator hunters that have killed 50 in a weekend.

They like to hang out and watch sometimes you can smell them.
It’s when you surprise them that things get sketchy.

Hikers carry bells on them here so you can find the bear that ate them. (Alaskan humor)

My dogs are why I’ve seen most of them at the house. Without them they would have gone unnoticed.
Any specific bell?
DEC says no mountain lions in ny also. I don’t believe them

Always carry a cell phone so your friends can track the bear that ate you.
That’s an old indian trick I just made up.

I just want to say that I don’t go bear hunting and I prefer live wildlife to a trophy on the wall.

I do pack protection though.

I have zero trophies on my walls. I don’t hunt, and never have, for anything but meat to feed the family.
However, I understand taking a monster old fella so the healthy young bucks can keep strength in the herds genetics.
Still, I wouldn’t hunt for a trophy. I don’t condemn those that do. They pay for the license, tags, equipment, gas to get out there… They add to the local business’s and the states conservation efforts so it’s all good.
There would be no wild turkeys in Missouri had it not been for hunters.

Up here it had better be a satellite phone.

The troopers might be too cheap to call it @ $50 a minute
