TopShelfs trees (Part 4)

How many coyotes could you reasonably shoot in a day?

Good morning @TopShelfTrees1 and crew.
It’s 7:37 in the a.m. here.
Most of you guys are probably having lunch.

My folks lost a dachshund to a pack of coyotes.
Pulled the poor thing right from the dog door as she was coming in.
Now they have a couple of big American bulldogs that keep them away.

Again, that depends on the population. Eight was a good night normally.

And if you think living in town means you don’t have to deal with that you would be wrong.

Good morning bro! I always forget how drastic our time difference is. I try and always keep in mind when any of my friends are in way different zones but I actually forget it was that far behind in AK

We’ve had a run in with a mountain lion out in Gerald, MO when I was growing up. My mom went to go see what the dogs were barking about and there was a goat screaming out in pain she goes out there and she said it was the deepest loudest roar she ever heard and then it ran away with the leg of the goat it ripped off trying to drag it under the fence it was a long and brutal night and super scary. There has been a few sitings of them here lately as well and it’s becoming more common

We’ve got a small population of coyotes here, they are scarce.
You’re just as likely to see a wolf.

Sad, it’s crazy how bold they are huh

We have a scarce population of red wolves out here. It’s rare that one is spotted. My wife has. I haven’t. Depending on where you’re reading, they are considered extinct in the wild but the Missouri Conservationist magazine had an article about them a couple of years ago admitting they are around.

OH yeah. We’ve had big cat out this way for a long time. The state denied it as long as they could but then game cameras became affordable. lol
“Well… yeah, mountain lions do live in Missouri, our bad…”
Both my wife and I have seen them crossing the road. I met up with one while spelunking years back. That was a pucker moment for me.

They’ve seen mountain lions in the Southeast Alaska panhandle, but they don’t officially exist here.

For chickens we have to watch for fox, martins, owls, eagles, ravens, cats and dogs.

Lynx and wolverine don’t come around people often.

My buddy Prohar - he’s an (Old Believer) Russian, shot this little brownie that was sneaking up on him as he was planting potatoes about a mile down the road from me.

2 or 3 year old.
Pro had seen him on his game camera the previous year and new he was living in the area.
So he was strapped when he was planting.

He heard a snap behind him, turned and saw the bear walking towards him.
He shot him right as it was starting to charge him.

He’s definately a baby.
That’s about the size of some of our blackies.

It’s these juvenile bears that get into trouble, still trying to figure things out.
