TrevorLahey's Low Budget Growing Part 4: "The Hunger Games"

Thanks for the smoke report. Getting a lot of “skunky” feedback with these. :+1::seedling:

My cannabinoid receptors thank you, sir.

I know how you feel…just went through it, but doubt your gonna get 60 inch’s of rain in 4 days like I did!!!

The rot will spread like WILD FIRE!!! Plants that were clear of it 2 days before, were covered in it.

Instead of losing it all, I took down EVERY ONE that had ANY ROT, or any that looked water logged.

Of 25 plants or so, only 5 or 6 remain standing, and I just should of taken them too.
It sucks to lose all the work and time, and see the plants suffer…outside in Texas is TOUGH!!!

Lessons learned, though. I’ve been growing for many years outside and I’ve had some really bad seasons where I lost most of my crop. Back in the day we didnt care about our health as much and we smoked alot of that shit still. Crazy thinking back.

Mother nature sure is humbling.

Gotta chop my JS tmw due to bud rot. For some reason, I’m not that upset about it. I think I have just resigned myself to the fact that some just aren’t gonna finish. It took me awhile, but the devastation I felt a few weeks ago has passed. Guess I just needed time to get some perspective. Rather some than none. and Yes, Mother Nature has humbled the shit outta me this year.

Update:

Well its been a busy few days. Was getting a lot of rot on all my plants and I started chopping.

The biggest plant, the 501st, is an almost total loss. I’m letting it go for now as theres still a few buds on it that seem ok.

The other big plant I’m almost done chopping and trimming. Just 2 branches left and a bunch of larf, I might leave em and see what they do lol.

I also chopped and trimmed the Glacier OG x RCB and the other unknown fem.

The other 3 tall plants, including the Agent K are also badly frost damaged and very far behind.

Bit of a disappointing result for this years outdoor run. Lessons learned for sure.

What’s next? Well I gotta get the rest of the outdoor salvaging completed, then shift focus back to the indoor. Have a light to build and a new round of autos to start. Gotta keep moving forward, theres light at the end of the tunnel and good things ahead I just know it!

That’s a real shame Trev :persevere:

So you got everything to make your light up then ?

I was all set to order some, and my daughter phoned 4 days ago, to say her laptop died, just as she is getting ready for mid terms at uni, so had to fork out $550 for a new one and another $200 for extra warranty and accident insurance for 2 years, that covers her until she finishes Uni, and then its up to her lol.

So I am stoney broke again, better than straight broke though lol. I guess I will have to find more things to sell and get some more money, and order it all before something else goes wrong and swallows it up.

Keep your head up man. I know the feeling, when crops don’t turn out the way you expect. Very disappointing. But now you don’t have to worry about them, and can put your focus and efforts into starting fresh.

For sure guys, thanks! Trying hard to stay positive here.

I’m just hoping I have enough to last until next harvest, I think I might but you know how that goes lol. The outdoor harvest is airy and not very dense, and the biggest yielding plant is so leafy it’s basically untrimmable.

And yeah @Shadey GST month haha… I put it towards the rest of the parts. Even bought the corner beading because aluminum angle is way too expensive lol I know all about being broke, that’s why the thread is called “Low Budget Growing” this is the most money I’ve spent on my grow in a long time.

We will rise!

Yeah the Hog is like that, if it goes fluffy, there is nothing left after trimming, they have such a lot of leaves you just keep trimming until all your left with is little bits :frowning:

Sorry Bro! How frustrating! I feel your pain.

Some of the FAM buds have this sticky sap through them it’s pretty crazy. They feel wet in your hand and you peel em apart and it’s all stringy goo.

Looks interesting, have you tried smoking it?

@Mr.Sparkle said to eat it, I did. tasted like sugar or maple syrup. Makes sense as it appears to be sap. Some had even solidified into pellets and grains.

Smoking it, it slowed down the joint burning so hey there’s another bonus.

New to me, but really cool.

That looks great Trev how are you attaching the led strips to the corner beading?

I am going to get some soon, early crimmy present to myself lol.

Well, this isn’t corner beading. I tried with the corner beading, even made 2 full frames, but it was flimsy and wanted to warp. So I caved and bought the aluminum angle. Glad I did to be honest, spending $300 on technology only to mount it to a $5 frame was kinda silly anyway.

As for mounting the strips, I used double sided mounting tape. Strong stuff. No need in drilling 60 holes and riveting the strips on permanently.

The tape won’t let go when warmed up?

This particular tape, no. It’s 3M stuff. Once the strips are on you’d need a screwdriver and heatgun to get them off.

These strips don’t even get warm either, I let them run for 30m last night and they were barely even warm to the touch. I’ll get temp readings when I’m all done of the build, but I’m very impressed with the low heat of these strips. In comparison, my SILs have gotten hot enough to melt plastic before.
