I’m curious if I was to take a bottom bud site an wrap the one site in foil so it only gets 10hrs light would that allow to sex earlier than after flip? Gate to give 2 months care to a. Plant just to rip it out plus supplies. Thanks

not sure i understand, but wouldn’t it be easier to snip clones and flower those than to cover a side?

i have no idea what partial covering would do to a plant, but stress is among my top guesses.

I’ve never tried the branch thing.

It costs $10-$15, but you can send a snip of leaf to Farmer Freeman and they will test the plant’s sex for you. You can do that when the plant is as young as one week old…

You can snip of a shoot and put into 12-12 with a glass of water, it works the same you get the sex in a couple of weeks.

Covering a piece of a plant i think would affect that part only but idk?

That is what I was thinking as well. That only the covered spot would be affected. Since will still be in veg mode. Thanks all great solutions!

A lot of years ago I watched a documentary on TV about plants.

It was winter and they showed a tree with leafs around the street light?

I’ve looked at 100 and more since but I’ve never seen a street light keeping the area in veg.

Some other gardners must have seen it, the winter tree with some veg around the light and the explanation why is only part that sticks in my mind?

Interesting thought. Parts of plants can be prevented from flowering if given light( happened to me @Star_Dog ) so perhaps the opposite is true. Does seem easier to get a cutting and stick it in a glass of water and begin flowering that.

Seemed to be the case, only the exact opposite with my plant. One branch was not tied down enough and was exposed to my deck lighting, located 120 feet away. That branch did not flower correctly. Only when i tied it down did it begin flowering. Of course it’s possible it was something else unrelated to the light.
