Right brother.
I mean there are plenty of tricks to the trade and pretty much all of them work. The deal is getting good starter genetics in order to decrease the time it takes to produce something spectacular.
no? how are we supposed to do that? i mean im all for knowledge but i don’t see how we can do that beyond morphology elimination. i have clones of 3 different females, and will smoke test…but that’s not tracking genes…is it? i guess sort of idk. not sure i understand what you are asking
The secret is in finding great strains with resistance to hermies. I do this by stress testing my interesting strains of superior chemotypes and grading their resistance to developing hermies. It’s rough science because it’s hard to generate exact data but you get a feel for what is a sexually pure line of seeds. And the good news is if you have a line polluted with hermies you just have to breed it a few times in regular seeds and it will be clean enough to use without hermies. I will draw heat for this from members but I learned this and tested it myself while following a hunch. And have had it confirmed by Ethos Genetics who is top shelf in the Cannabis breeding world. So hang on tight to any clean genetics in regular seed that is killer weed as this is how to win the game.
That is possible. Especially if you have only one herm on only couple plants out of a thousand. The reason the gene exsist is because it was in the male and female. The alles have to match up from both parents to produce a dominant gene. If only one parent has the ability to produce this alle and the other does not the gene becomes recessive and may very well pop up later if your not very careful and always testing parents and offspring.
For a line with alot of hermies you best bet is to breed the line outside after letting it grow from seed outside.
Again knowing you gotta have at least one clean parent it is best to outcross to a very very stable variety.
Yes, this is what you have to do of you are serious about breeding. Though ive always had the feeling(no facts) that hermi is a Recessive trait because ive had F2s showing more hermis then F1 and F3. Now im talking about real stable F crosses and no poly hybrid wannabe F crosses. The parents never hermed or any other seeds of the two stable lines. So even If you test and test and test. Those traits might appear in future lines
Oh it’s real complicated, you gotta fight on forums for 5yrs or so first…that’s just to prove you can grow…then another year fighting in flushing threads…and finally you can throw pollen on another plant and still have enough street cred you dont get ostracized for not conforming to breeding Standards & Practices.
But one day you might, good luck
Na he forgot cal mag. But he definitely speaks the truth.
It’s like a war zone in here sometimes and all I can say is armor up and pack that artillery.
All silliness aside, I try not to worry much about what someone is talking about because the truth is in the smoke.
Not a big fan of that kind of strength anymore, but I remember it being quite common around here in the 90s and early 00s. The people sourcing it around here were going to Amsterdam & the cups to get their genetics. I figured that was all they were selecting for there, just raw strength in order to place well at the cup and sell their seeds. Seems like bag appeal and terpenes are the driving force at events today as you indicated.
I remember having a Kali mist that felt like micro-dosing shrooms as well… Interesting effect for sure.
