Unknown, annoying flies

I tried the apple cider vinegar/honey trap, didn’t work, tried those sticky traps but they pretty much got all my rove beetle friends! i also tried killing them all with a fly swatter but i lack skills!

I got about 50 of those buzzing around my tent and outside of it as well, not sure what do do, can’t identify the damn thing either, they don’t hurt the plant or nothing, they are just SO annoying, any suggestions how to get rid of those flies without killing my rove beetles?

Thanks in advance overgrow!!

Damn 50+ of those is a lot!
Not sure exactly but it looks like some type of common fly to me. Any other pictures? Plants still in veg?

Looks like a kind of stink bug (soldier bugs), they’re predators and good company to have … avatar38|nullxnull

No, it’s definitely not a stink bug, or any other kind of true bug. It’s a dipterid of some kind, possibly a species of fungus feeding fly. It’s most likely breeding in the substrate. Probably not harmful to the plants, but they will get glued to your buds (super annoying).

Yup, though without being able to look at a specimen under a dissecting scope to look at wing veins, mouthparts, and reproductive organs, it’s pretty difficult to get an exact species.

I think the eyes are too large body too narrow to be a stink bug

A picture or idea of scale would help.

Yea the main thing i was lookin at was the ecology of them… the longer wings on them was wat got me🧐

It’s almost definitely in Diptera (flies), and not Hemiptera (true bugs). The mouthparts and wings give it away.

Perhaps some kind of fly? I think what I thought was an elongated body could just be the wings, miss some colours although … icon_e_confused|nullxnull

Do you happen to live near a big body of water? I suspect that these might be a species of shore fly, which are relatively harmless but still a nuisance.

Should also be ez to get rid of if you don’t mind crackin’ a few rove beetles to make an omelette :grimacing:

If OP lives near a water source, I think it might be one of the myriad Ephydridae species. It could still be a fungus fly, though not the commonly occurring species.

Still thinking it could be a soldier beetle, lost in translation, these were what I was looking for …

The bugs in that tent are definitely not stink bugs.
Stinkbugs are not good to have around if you got fruits or vegetables growing.
