Welcome to Meesh's Garden

planted this as soon as I got it. Had no idea the leaves were scented. Thought the scent was in the flowers.

The big, red(w/black), opium-filled ones.

Will do! Probably around Sept/Oct IIRC.

It looks pretty pissed. 6 days in a box can do that. Give it some sun and it should be okay. I smell hardcore roses, but some people just smell lemon. What was your first take out of yhe box?

Oh yeah, the leaves, the stems, the flowers are all scented

Cool, it sounds the same. I’ll try and find a pic from that house. Somebody told me the ones here have the opium, too. I think they were bought for gardens or as souvenirs or something but not available, now…??? There was some story. They look like a common weed when they first start and for a good while. I dug some up, doh!

I found that plant light in the garage, never did have Dad hook it up. Figured it would open a whole new can of worms. lol

The ones that grow in my garden look very much like this, except more of a bluey-green tone and more wavy/curly.

I suspect that if you put it into use that you may find your troublesome seeds to become more cooperative, thereby providing your garden with more young 'uns to fret over, a delicious dilemma indeed.

I can’t grow any damn chives either! I think they like to grow in rocks and sand. Those veggies look great! Nice and healthy! What are you doing to keep the creepy crawlies at bay?

Chive porn:

This year I decided to test the theory. Removed the flowers from one - yes indeed it inspired more growth!

What kind of soil are they in?? I’ve only tried in pots

My soil is a big random mix. It’s fairly sandy, but I amend it as much as I can with compost, manure, peat moss, etc. If you look at the thread I just created you might be able to get an idea of my soil by looking at the pics.

They just grow like a bastard every year there. I don’t do anything to them, although I will pluck the flowers from now on, now that I see the results.

Yep, looks like an invasive weed to me. I’d dig it up again, lol… That’s what I was seeing in the first spring at that house. I was getting all of the weeds out, I though. I really felt bad when I saw them bloom. I could have had a ton of them.

If you can find a sunny spot along your wall somewhere, the Butterfly :butterfly: Bush will grow gi-normous.

That’s how I’ve always seen it spelled too! That’s why I tore out the old one. I didn’t give it enough room. I have it where my old apple tree was now. It has 3 or 4 feet. The flowers smell great too

Was it one of those vine boring caterpillars? The kill it from inside out. Sorry to hear it.

Mice, deer, hares/rabbits, bugs, etc. are all enemies of the cantaloupe, as far as I know. I’ve never tried to grow them myself, but I also know several people who have successfully grown them only to find that something else got to them first.
