Where Do The Terpenes Live?

I’ve seen IG mentioned several times in various threads. What, may I ask, is IG?

Thank you so much! smile1

Awesome pic @JoeCrowe!!!

I thought I spied structure inside the trichome heads this morning using a high qual 30x loupe, but I decided I was just imagining it!

So, only the carbos are big enough? or just have their own cuticle?

Well, usually the carbohydrates are the easiest to pick out of the mass there. In some plants, a mutation causes the carbs to be visible to the human eye… lemme find a photo.

There you can see the carbohydrates as dark spheres.

You know I’ve been admiring and learning from your pics for years @JoeCrowe , but these are a complete mindfuk!

When you have a chance how bout posting some more “Inside the Tric Head” pics.

If the terps are contained inside the trichomes, how does it get so fragrant in flower? Can the volatiles escape through the cuticle boundary?

How come the terps get washed out near completely in the “Water Cure” process, but not in bubble hash?

Sorry, the more I learn the more I want to understand this…

The plant material tastes like hay afterwards, that’s for truth. I would venture to say that most of the water soluble compounds are leeched out of the plant, but not the trichomes. That requires heat and time.
Here’s the reasoning:
When I make bubble hash I make sure to rinse and rinse the hash. Eventually the water comes out clean and clear like the water going in, and doesn’t taste like terpenes. The hash contains loads of terpenes though… because I can taste and smell it  but no quantity of water put through the bags will diminish the flavor of the hash afterwards.

Makes sense to me. Thanks again. :+1:

I’ll give my 2p.
It depends what you’re after?

If you want your hash tasting like the bud it came from dry sift is the way to go it’s basically concentrated bud flavor,
if you like hash for its hash flavor bubble is the way to go.

Mentioned in the op terps are water soluble, I’m told some strains are better/worse than others but Ime i think bubble removes too many terps from flavor or changes it too much from dry sift flavor.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but have you ever tried live extracts from fresh buds?

No I’ve never tried live extract, i was responding to @Andrexl regarding dry sifting his buds versus bubble hash.

@Star_Dog Thank you Bud.I have freshly frozen Buds, those are not good for a dry sift then

As my experience shows the more stress the plants has the more terpens will produce

No @Andrexl , but the silver lining is , that’s great for bubble : )

Can you actually explain this without the scornful tone? What you’re saying makes some sense, but it’s not clear what your point is. I also think you’re asserting knowledge beyond current research, but I’ll let you provide your sources. If you can have a constructive discussion I’d like to do that, but I’m not sure if that’s of interest to you?

No afaik they have to be dried, I’m not up to date with the latest extracts etc but I’ve smoked my share of hash and oil from around the world, they’re all good in there own way but imo none of them come close to dry sift.

Apparently it’s regarded as live resin, or it is to this dude lol.

I figured out where the terpenes live… :arrow_double_up:

I have a feeling that there are a host of people who haven’t seen what modern/future bubblehash has to offer. I mean, minus that stupid dog hair lol! My friends thought that pile of dust was some kind of different drug.

I’ve plenty of hash available but it’s hash it’s had terps washed out of it imo it’s less desirable than bud or dry sift, jmo.

Dry sift is where the flavor is.
