Which yields better bubble hash or dry ice?

Trying to figure out what to do with the trim & popcorn buds when I finally harvest. I’m torn between dry ice hash and bubble. The decision comes down to what typically yields better. If it makes a difference I have a “portable” washing machine that I’d be using for the bubble if I go that route.

Dry ice yields better but with more contaminants.

Its just for personal and assuming my grow goes well I’m not to worried about a little plant matter. It’s mostly gonna get put on top of bowls of flower anyways.

If all you care about is yield, dry ice wins. Fast and easy, but not as pure as good bubble.

I suggest yield should be a secondary concern.

Well made well processed bubble is by far my favourite thing to smoke.

It is a lot of work though.

I have to agree bubble hands down taste wise might as well make the better of the two choices .

Dry ice hands down. Not breaking my back for half hour+ to get half the yield. I just press mine for rosin and cook the remainder so any possible contaminates don’t matter to me. If you’re careful you won’t get any anyways. And you can run the sift back through some screens to separate out the grades to get full melt and such. Win/Win in my book.

Dry ice yields well and is super quick, the leftover dust is supreme for blasting into BHO.

I do 5 gallon buckets with old bubble hash bags, half filled with material and some dry ice wait till she starts to frost up and shake baby shake. Knowing when to stop helps the most, it starts out light golden then slowly turns green as the leaf and such is broken down as you shake stop as soon as it starts to show light green on the pile of hash. Use an old library card or credit card to get underneath the pile and flip a corner to compare the starting colour to the pile.

Good luck

I do both and bubble is sure sweet tasting but I find dry ice a lot easier to make and more versatile to use as it’s more like hash to carry and use. Saying that I do like that I have both for variety😉

I run a 120 mesh screen with dry ice in a tumbler. I don’t get any plant material and I’m sure I’m leaving a lot behind but quality over quantity. I probably should run the dust through a solvent extraction of some kind but I’m lazy, hence the tumbler lol load it and turn it on and walk away for 45 min to an hr.

OK, this might sound bad. Bubble hash has the flower at 0 C (32 F), I am guessing the dry ice even colder. But what if it is darn cold outside, say -30 and you do sort of a dry run without ice, dry or not? Do you need the mechanical action of the ice or will just abusing the leaf be enough to knock the good stuff off? Smoking is not a concern, just looking to get all the CBD out to make edibles or to infuse into oil.

@bunny I’ve used snow and water sitting on the deck in the winter .

I thought of that. But if dry ice has a better yield, I am wondering if the flower at -30 (and it would be shitty being out there doing it) would be the same as using dry ice. Or is it the chunks if ice hitting the flower without the water that causes the better yield?

I believe it just needs to be cold enough to knock off the trichs.
Doing it that way, do you sit in the -30 to make it? BUURRRR… LOL
Made dry ice Hash last weekend.

From shake.

Looks yummy. Yeah, not too much a fan of those cold days but have the clothing for it. I remember a year where it stayed under -30 C for 20 days.

The one thing I’d like to point out the potential of using dry ice which is -109F damn cold … could it possibly damage a nice set of bags? Jury may be out on that one but still Iv done both not a lot lately but bubble is much cleaner product in the end IIRCC

It is. But takes this old girl all day to do bubble. I am satisfied with the dry ice method. Quick, good return, can smoke it right away…but does break down the bags over time.
I do allot of shake and small buds. Still have bags of it in the freezer.

You must be up in Canada. I’m in Michigan. We get those vortex cold spells as well.
Don’t much like those days…

Dry ice makes everything super brittle even plant material braking it into small fiber letting it into the hash. Hence why it yields more!

Yes, prairie boy. Just love when the low pressure system decides to sit over us for extended periods of time.

@DannylovesCannabis That was what I was figuring, thinking of trying it this winter.
