1st Sativa debacle

Howdy OG! I’m finally done moving and on our dream homestead property! Been lots of work and still a long ways to go, but finally had time to get back to the grow!
This grow is a bunch of sativa crosses I got from a friend, from Colorado Sativas, and a Thai auto from Sanora Seeds. I started a bunch of different strains, so the plan is to find the best looking ones out of this bunch, and keep the winners and cull the others. It’s a mess! And I’m relying on you to help me choose the best plants to keep since I have no idea what I’m looking for in sativas, hint hint @Upstate haha

Here’s what I ordered and what I started

Group photo
Ethiopian, real wrinkly leaves, I seen this in other sativa grows, hoping it’s a sign it’s a skinny leaf!
Durban. So far the skinniest leaves out of the bunch and makes my tummy tingle!
forgot the name, you can see the tag, some of these names are wild. Looks like a normal hybrid so far
These are a trade, Afganxoaxacanxcolumbian gold, probably guna get rid of these

Latina Oaxacan, had to repot in better soil it’s looking better than it was. Only seed that sprouted Thai auto from Sanoma Seeds, already starting to flower which I wanted, don’t expect much from this being a true Thai since it’s from a “box store” seedbank and an auto. But it will be fun to grow anyeays. I’ll plant it out behind the barn for shits and giggles.
I think I covered it all, it’s a headache to keep up with. And the almost done plant is a Skittlez auto from ILGM. Smells AMAZING.
well I’ll keep y’all updated and looking forward to how this goes, and advice from the great growers here. And it feels great to be back!

Congratulations on getting a homestead set up. It’s a ton of work, but its extremely rewarding, and much healthier these days to take care of your own food needs, as much as possible anyway.
I HIGHLY recommend getting into beekeeping once you are established. A steady source of sweets is a MUST have to get fully self sufficient, and it’s an easy side income if you keep several hives…not to mention it’s likely a tax write off. Here if I get to 6 hives, my property tax drops 90%.
Nice lineup of strains to go thru!
The Latina Oaxaca wants a weaker soil. That’s a good sign it’s heavily sativa.
I wouldn’t discount that Oax x col x Afghan. Lots of great strains( skunk) use that same recipe.
I see that Acapulco x Zipolite😁. Should be great! It also wants less food.
And yes, nice skinny Durban leaf. Is this a SSSC repro?
The crinkle leaf may be a sign of long periods of inbreeding. No one knows. Afghan strains always seem to have it, and they are very old and inbred.
Looking forward to this grow. Keep tagging me if i disappear.

i hope yours turn out more sativa than mine.

i am running a tent of cs gear (was at least, got 5/7 male). the oaxaca had the fattest leaves of any plant i have grown. it was wrinkly too. looked like cabbage. really smell stems though, but both were male. the kona blue was a good sativa hybrid looking plant, it was super stretchy and male. the AG bc1 seems sativa hybrid. it is slow to flower. the panama has super fat leaves and quicker than the AG. some are very stocky plants. the female i have wants to stretch outward, not up so far.

Well so far it’s about the same as yours. These things are getting pretty fat! But I’m excited to see these grow out nonetheless!

gifted Latina Oaxaca. Color is coming back and looking better
gifted Afghan/oaxacan/Colombian gold. Both topped, looking a little hungry for something
CS velvet rush/Thai. Think I forgot to add these in the first post. Doing good. CS oaxacan zipolite/Alcapolco Gold red stem. These are getting HUGE! Fan leaves as big as my hand already, and by far the fastest growing strain out of all of them. Really liking these, even though they be ghetto booty fat lol
CS Ethiopian. These got my attention with the growth structure. Little slower going, and one of them is already alternating nodes! First time I’ve ever seen this happen at such a young age! Looking forward to how these turn out. CS Durban Poison/Highland. Definitely the skinniest leaves of all of them, and much slower growth than the rest but for sure one of my favorites.
Sanoma Seeds Thai auto. Starting the stretch and hairs coming on. It said it’s a 14 week flower so we’ll see what happens. Hoping it has the sativa structure flowers.
bud of the ILGM skittlez auto. Probably ready to pick but I’ve never let one go past prime before so guna try it with this for a knock out sleepy smoke
holiday Family photo
Well I think I got them all, this is way too much going on here so I hope to see what I’m looking for so I can get rid of some of these. Think it’s time to switch to flower? Little over 3 weeks of veg and I read sativas need to go into flower after they get about 6” tall. Have a great weekend yall, happy late Turkey day!!

ya, it all looks like cabbage. i kept a male clone. not sure if i will breed it since it’s the most indica morph plant i have had ever grown. still, it seems a little feral.

Update time! Been a couple weeks, I flipped to flower 12 days ago. Some are showing, most are not showing just yet. The females I really like I up potted, the rest just waiting to see if I like them, or even if I have room!

Velvet rush. These are ok, the one on the far right is a female, the rest aren’t showing yet. They’re ok, I like the direction they’re going with the leaf structure, hopefully they improve with size, that seems to be how it goes.
Oaxacan Zipolite x AG Red stem. I’m REALLY liking these ones with how they look! The right is a female, definitely keeping this one to see how she shapes up. Beautiful plant
Ethiopian. Neither showing sex yet, very interesting so far, the one has fascinating growth with the alternating internodes from the beginning Still keeping on with that growth structure
Durban poison By far my favorite! Going straight into the skinny leaf sativa structure I was looking for! Keeping both of these for sure. The super skinny one started off with balls, then soon the hairs came out too! Hopefully the balls stop and it stays a female, I’ve seen this happen before and it stayed a female, so hopefully that’s the situation here. Either way I’m keeping these around unless something very bad happens. Latina Oaxaca. This is a female. It’s alright, I like it, going to keep it since it’s my buddys and he wants to see it grown out. Thai auto from sanoma seeds. Smells just like lemon!! Still doubt it will flower for 14 weeks since there’s ruderalis in it, but hey. Let’s see if they’re right! She’s pretty, little yellow, but pretty.
family photo. Got rid of a couple of the Afghan/Colombian Gold that turned male, still one left in the very back, getting crowded but so far I am loving this grow! It’s fun to see these plants come into their own, and even if some of these strains aren’t looking like true sativas, I’m still enjoying them, and I would also like to state that I have NO bad things to say about Gerry’s gear, and this is still just in the beginning phase of this. Many of these strains look like they’re still forming into their own, new growth seems to look more and more skinny. Besides, How many times have someone here bought strains and it turned out nothing like it was described. That’s just part of growing, and for his prices, it’s ALL GOOD  I’m loving these plants and flower hasn’t even ramped up yet!

whoops, this was the picture I meant to add of the Durban that started off with balls then switched to hairs. Let’s hope it stays hairy!!

Real quick update, it has been 3 1/2 weeks since the flip. And these ladies are just now barely starting to flower. All of them are Definitely sativas!! All of the males have been identified and removed. I kept the male Durban, it’s in the greenhouse , still don’t know if I want to do anything with it. One things for certain. These plants are MOODY!! I haven’t been over watering(at least not any different than all the other plants I’ve grown). I’ve been very lightly fertilizing, maybe every 3-4 watering. But half of them have been in this droopy phase for going on a week now. So idk what their deal is. Here’s a few pictures for now, I’ll get into more detail when I find the time. Still need to transplant most of them and clean up some.

no more signs of balls on the Durban, so everything’s looking good. If anyone has any advice on how to help these droopy ladies out I’m all ears, cuz I been light watering, letting them dry out, easy on ferts, idk what’s going on. I did top dress soil with compost also.

You might want to check the roots, most every time I had a weird problem it was root related. (Assuming I hadn’t screwed up PH etc.)

Cheers

Maybe it’s just the light but they looked hungry before you flipped them and now, they look even hungrier. I agree with Gpaw. They are all showing the same droopiness, so whatever it is, it’s common to all of them.

Update! Little over 4 weeks into flower, I upped the nutrients and maxxed out the light, and they seemed to have perked up!

Latina Oaxaca. I like how this one looks, and is the farthest along into flower. Very fuzzy already, and has a great smell, almost a stank menthol smell. Lower nodes aren’t growing much, but thickening flowers.

Oaxacan zipolite/ Alcupolco Gold Red Stem. One is much shorter and ugly looking, the taller one is beautiful! Pistils coming in, and is getting a little too tall!
Ethiopian. She is JUST NOW showing her sex. Sure glad she’s a female. Shortest and bushiest of them all, guna be fun seeing how she grows.

Velvet Rush/Thai. Ugly looking like the back zipolite. Just won’t lift its leaves up, and not a fast grower. Maybe she’ll switch gears some day.
forgot what this was, Afghan with alcupulco gold, and Oaxaca. The gift from someone here, but she is pretty. But not part of the CS stash.
last and DEFINITELY not least, the Durban Poison. My favorite one, and boy is she beautiful! Also growing ridiculously tall, and very little pistils showing. No difinitive smell just yet, but I love her. I got the male in the greenhouse and looks almost identical, maybe slightly fatter leaves. Still don’t know if I’ll make a few seeds or not. family photo. Oh ya that auto is still in there, looks like it’s close to finishing, but still hasn’t even started stacking yet, so who knows. Technically it still has like 8 weeks left according to the description online. So I’ll let it keep chugging along. Overall I’m still enjoying this grow, sativas are DEFINITELY different, and it’s not the same seeing the fast growing buds of a hybrid, but there’s something special about sativas that has me hooked. Until next time!

Nice variety!

Not sure what’s going on with that Ethiopian and the Velvet Rush. That curl-over is weird, looks like over watering but you are paying close attention to that. Maybe root issues?

@FieldEffect Maybe?? I just transplanted all of them, the roots were abundant, but I don’t know what to look for with roots so idk if there could have been an issue?? I’m hoping the transplant in fresh soil and more room they’ll snap out of it. They’re growing consistently tho! Overwatering was my thoughts as well. Maybe just moody
