You are doing great! Now for a little LITFA.
You have a great structure for further flowering you can flip to autopilot.
Well, that is seldom true for me as I can always find something to fiddle with…
Don’t take off any more bud sites (unless you find something down low you missed)
Each plant is a little different on the secondary branches. Some end up a waste of time but some slowly develop some reasonable bud. It crossed my mind last year that maybe I should harvest the lower buds separately to see what they were like as they seemed to have a different turpene profile than the upper buds. I put that aside for another time.
Also, Bruce will get some chicken wire around it when the branches need support, but all the girls in the ground have been fitted with the trellises in a sort of indoor fashion to form basically an outdoor SCROG. That was the plan anyway.
Most outdoor growers really don’t prune much because they are going for quantity of bud as you only get one harvest. So they want maximum yield. I am going for less quantity and more quality, trying to get the plant to focus energy more towards the main top colas and less towards the secondary branches that produce more nug like buds or smaller buds and any larf. I suppose we will all find out when my plants are done. lol
In the video he emphasizes moving energy from the bottom of the plants to focus on the top as a way to get bigger colas. I’m sure light is a factor, but it seemed to me the main goal was the former.
Did you see the pruning vid I just did? What’s your take on what I’m trying to do? Do you see my vision? I want everyone’s opinion whether indoor or outdoor as the concept should be the same. I hope it is at least.
I was referring to the latter half of the video where he is supercropping and doing the ‘chiropractics’ I don’t believe she will have to worry about that portion. As for the pruning…not sure when to stop in her case since flowering has not begun.
I actually did the chiropractics on them too. lol If anything it just made my branches super strong. Wasn’t planning on doing anymore of that at this point. I just don’t remember him talking about pruning the main stem where the top colas will grow. I don’t care if I screw up the branches so much as the main stem where those colas come out. Not sure if pruning on the main stem should be handled differently.
After watching the video, I would say you are doing a good job so far. When you make the canopy even like that, you spread out the auxins causing a shorter, bushier plant. Basically you’re building a minora instead of a christmas tree.
I think you are doing well, but don’t top anymore. Continue to remove secondaries that are small suckers, let them focus on the top.they look good to me so far.
Exactly, I was just thinking Menorah earlier. I’m not planning to top, but should I continue to remove suckers (basically anything more than 3) from the main stem until they flower?
I’m not really qualified to answer the giant outdoor plant pruning. You’re pretty much our resident outdoor specialist. We’re usually here asking you these questions. Lmao
I’d err on the side of caution, but trust your instincts. A little extra larf won’t hurt.
That made me laugh! I think you are all qualified to comment as the pruning concept I’m going for is the same, just on a bigger plant. Outdoor specialist??? Bahahahaha! Glad y’all have so much confidence in me! It seems I can grow these Mofos, but pruning is not my specialty… yet!
Alright, it seems that an easy way to figure this out is to continue removing secondaries on top of main stems any more than 3 nodes on Bruce, the practice plant and LITFA the big girls in the ground aside from regular branches and compare at the end. Then we will all see what happens… Thanks Guys for humoring me! I feel less anxious now.
Here ya go as promised Iv been doing the alternating stem cracking which helps strengthen stem for heavy buds and pruning the crotches as I would put it.
Eyeballing the last 2 of the spectral tangerines for balls or hairs, I find a few aphids here and there. While I know it is not an infestation and this is fairly common outdoors, it bothers me. So I’m going outside to do a spinosad drench on all of the plants just to make me feel better. lol
