I noticed they came in really late for me this year , they started hitting hard just before the snow then shifted a bit then here right again at harvest plucked my last plant today.

I thinks me mentioned that ! Hehe with @Meesh ā€˜s weather she could probably soak her seeds on July 4th In the ground and get a nice sized plant

I got that feeling also so intense in smell in the garage this year when one works in such environments sensory adaptations take over and you donā€™t notice it that much when ya work in all the time maybe ya just need to expose your self @Meesh 24/7/365! Lol

Ya itā€™s that hippie Cali strain! Lol I want some too! Have a small plant going right now so Iā€™ll get some Tastes of it anyways!

Yeah, I have an SSDD that I put in the ground early and then put another plant only about 18ā€ in in July I believe. It caught up to the SSDD and is basically the exact same size.

Itā€™s so harsh here right at start of summer. The sun is too intense and hail and wind storms are making me think of planting later. I could move pots around but there seems to be no reason to plant so early for me. I may plan next year that way.

Otherwise Iā€™m creating a lot of extra work for two months for nothing.

@meesh, definitely look into mold resistant plants or plants made for wet environments. Some people swear by them. peace

Wow good to know as for next year itā€™s going to be an early auto for outdoor and maybe a late fall ā€¦ not sure when outdoor hemp gets the chopped around here but if the hemp continues to stay Iā€™ll have these seed issues all the time ! ā€¦ time to get that nice indoor light! And grow inside with photos!

Either that or move upwind!

Yea that might be a plausible idea but we can get winds from even the East in our locations at times but yes a plant or two West or North would fair better IMO! Thereā€™s a decent outdoor grow in hoop houses just south of us also I canā€™t imagine they arenā€™t effected also! Probably less than 5 miles.

So I talked about this last year and never did try it. Iā€™m curious what a plant will do if I germ one outside now at less than 12 hours of daylight. Wonder if it would act like an auto and start budding right away or if it will come up and just grow slow as shit and stall out in veg until spring. It doesnā€™t freeze here so Iā€™m curious. Maybe Iā€™ll pop that free fem chocolope seed this week and find out. Not sure Iā€™ll really care for chocolate bud anyway, so it wouldnā€™t matter if I had to trash it.

Cali lifeā€¦ At my clientā€™s office in shorts and flip flops. Here is my view. Yep. Itā€™s foggy as hell but that is the beach. Sucks to be me.

Your fog looks like my smoke . Meesh do you remember a place called Tin Can Beach ? along the south coast my dad was looking for a place for us to camp for the night . I remember a big party spot that looked like a homeless camp lol . Not a good spot to take the family camping so my dad drove for a couple more hours up to Blue Lake in the hills above L A I think .

Never heard of Tin Can Beach, but my guess is it was in Ventura County or closer to Santa Barbara, North of me. As a matter of fact, I canā€™t think of any beaches in Los Angeles County that you can camp on the beach. As a 20 something, we headed to Doheny State beach south of us in Orange County to camp which is closer to where I live.

So, I had heard many times that it is better to harvest your bud in the dark. Only explanation I ever got on that was ā€œcuz it will taste betterā€. Well that was never a good enough reason for dragging my butt outta bed before sun rise.

This year, I actually came across an article in High Times with some actual scientific reasons from some really respected growers. In case none of you knew the real reason, figured Iā€™d share with you why as it may change your harvesting to the dark side too. This info has been dragging my ass up at 5 now to harvest.

All of the sugars, starches, chemicals and most importantly the chlorophyll leaves the plant and goes into the roots at night for photosynthesis. Basically all of the shit, you donā€™t want in your harvested bud. Another reason why flushing makes no sense as the plants do this themselves every night. Youā€™ll get a much cleaner, smoother smoke without all that extra chlorophyll. It also, is easier to trim, weā€™ve noticed as the sticky doesnā€™t come back to the buds until the sun comes up. Doesnā€™t all stick to your gloves and stuff when you trim.

Wouldnā€™t that mean the plants were not green at night?

Obviously not, Iā€™m sure it all doesnā€™t leave, but most of it does. All I know is all of the bud drying in my rack right now that was harvested in the dark has no hay smell and fresh dried the smoke is smooth with no coughing. For example, I had been cutting out bud rot from the Blue Dream before we harvested it and the pieces of bud I salvaged in the day was harsh when I smoked it. Coughed up a lung. The new fresh dry from the whole plant harvested before sunup is smooth as hell. Iā€™m noticing the difference majorly

Also, we harvested my blue gelato in the day before I read the article and it had zero smell or taste in dry. Finally getting some scent in cure. The other 3 plants we harvested in the dark, all are packed with fragrance and taste fresh dried. Very noticeable. Iā€™m def sold.

@allotment I canā€™t remember from college biology, but I also think that the leaves turn green from the mixture of sunlight and chlorophyll, not just the chlorophyll alone. My neighbor had this vining plant on our shared wall and it literally grew some vines through my roof in the garage and into the locked and pitch black room in the back that I lock all the tools in. They were almost to the ground when I discovered them and stark white. They had never seen the sun, ever. Iā€™m sure there is some compound change with the chlorophyll going on scientifically that causes the green to stay. I guess my point is, the vines couldnā€™t grow without chlorophyll, so it had to be present, it just never had any sunlight for it to turn green. 12 hours in the dark must not be enough to take the green out

Iā€™m trying to find the article about it. I remember I was watching the colorado cannabis cup awards live and when it finished I was scrolling and reading articles. I donā€™t remember the name of it. Found one that I had read first that mentioned something about the way it burns when smoked as well when harvested in the dark. I was jumping from article to article. How frustrating, because I could have described it wrong to you guys with the science part. I wanted to give you the exact wordage instead of my paraphrasing. Oh well, regardless all the crap you donā€™t want goes to the roots in darkness.

You got some awesome buds there. Sucks you had mold issues. I had great luck last year with bodhiā€™s dragonblood hashplant. Harvested in november with no issues with mold. This year ive been impressed with bogs blue kush and again jungle spice by bodhi. Im in michigan so the climate is a lot different but mold and harsh conditions are still a factor. Im looking forward to seeing you progress next year with what you learned this time.
