Love the self watering pots!! Was thinking of doing kind of the same thing…fill the bowl part with hydroton and sit a felt pot on top,spray paint the bottle black and then white…

Harvest is drying now. I would call this technique a success.
Some observations:
- Top dressing 1x a week was enough to keep all the ladies happy - even with (4) different varieties
- Only (1) variety proved to need more frequent top dress than the rest (Pure Kush)
- Noticed beneficial bugs due to consistent moisture and soil life - specifically soil mites and springtails
- Had to find a solution to kick back population of soil mites and maintain control - after a few weeks only few soil mites were found in top soil or outter brim of containers and never on any plants
- No fungus gnats which were a problem last run - guess it’s due to proactive treatment early on with mosquito bits and other beneficial bugs in soil
On to the next run!
This time it will be:
- Apples and Bananas x Devil Driver - Tiki Madman
- Wondermelon - 3Thirteen

Recently topped. Two plants are sitting in 1.5 gal (black pots) to see how they perform.
These are much larger already than the previous run.

Man I really like those pots. I really need to get a printer with a larger bed, those would be so useful for veg.

I can print you a few but need to order more filament.
This is the easiest method for me. I was out of the country for 1.3 weeks and came back to everything chugging along.
