A couple weeks at the lake with Doug

I don’t think so since it was working fine on last visit and the line is sealed. The main line goes out the basement wall so to check it all means digging 6 feet down and 50 or so feet to the lake which is a ridiculous amount of work. Just cant see that being the issue or I would lose pressure as it sits.

Hey Doug! Guess what I got in the mail today.
I was impatiently waiting for this to come in. I kept following the tracking and it came and then left my zip code like 3 times. I guess your pollen was on tour.
I have never seen this movie before.

Thanks a million!

You’re welcome bud, glad it arrived safe and sound.

Well enjoy yourself for the evening. There has to be an air leak or blockage somewhere in the line to the lake. What ever fittings you didn’t change I would start looking there shouldnt be anything on the other side causing it unless a tap is on but you would know that. You could turn the switch down and run it at 40-20 if that would work.

Oh and what is the height you are drawing because somewhere around 25 feet some pumps max out.
If your draw line is under ground is it possible something punctured it. If it sucks air that could cause a problem.

Yeah, no tap running, shut off valve just after pump so nothing flowing into house. Dont get the air leak as it doesnt lose pressure, every time I have had a pipe or foot valve issue it loses pressure as it sits and will at least make pressure . Than would shut off and cycle back on as pressure drops. Figure drop is only between 15 and 20 feet unless this 1/2 hp pump is not as powerful as my last 1/2 hp pump that has bee working well over a decade.

Nobody can puncture it as it is well under ground, like 6 feet underground. If there was a leak in that pipe it would not hold pressure, that’s what’s really confusing me. How can the pipe have a leak and still hold the 40 psi?

Well check the box or manual for that 1/3 hp and see what max height it can draw because I know I need a 1/2 hp and pulling about that height.

It is a 1/2 HP which is the same as the one I had on it previously. That was a typo. I would go bigger but never smaller. Sorry for the misinformation

Hey bud, before anything, have as much fun as you can! Now, curious, what strains did you take with you!? Amazing views!!

I have 2 systems here. One pump and tank that pulls from the lake through triple filters and UV into a holding tank and another that draws from the tank to run the waterworks with a cut off line between so I can run either as waterworks in case one goes down. Gives me safety time in case the pump goes but I live here and need water on a constant basis.

Yeah, the part thats getting me is I have been at this for many, many years. Everyy year or 2 the pump has to be torn down and cleaned for a bit of debris or rust. Than if there is a break in a pipe or foot valve you deal with that. I have just become accustomed to it and that’s fine. Everything I have learned says if it losses pressure I have to check lines and foot valve for some kind of leak. If it holds pressure than the system has to be sealed between pump and foot valve so I look at pump. Now for some reason in this instance I am getting nowhere. I suppose tomorrow I will replace line from where it emerges from ground out into lake and put a new foot valve on it. Really just .because I don’t know what else to do.

I have gone through the same things over the years. I’m running out of ideas on what it is and what I’ve experienced.
I would think take the foot valve out and release the water and make sure it’s flowing good and if not there could be something partially blocking it somewhere but it’s a guess for sure.
Make sure the foot valve spring operates freely.
These are all things you probably already checked but I’m not getting anything else that stands out to me.

Yeah, tomorrow I go disconnect the other end. I suppose it’s possible that the foot valve is not able to open all the way so restricting intake. I know it’s fully closing because it’s holding pressure but maybe not fully opening. Hmmmm, it’s a thought. I keep a spare foot valve on hand so that’s an easy one to check.

Doug do you have a foot valve at the lake end? If it’s draining back to the lake your pump will run steady and not be able to hold pressure.

Yes there is a foot valve in the lake and it holds pressure. That’s how I figure there are no leaks between pump and lake. At least it’s pumping, turn on to shower, off when done. That will do for today, now it’s all dubies, sandwiches and whiskey.
