A Shadey spot to grow, Perpetual organic no till

Fungus gnats are almost unavoidable.

Many people get mites from cutting or clones they receive. You need a quarantine area for new cuts. No animals in the grow area. If you mess with other plants or yard work, shower and new clothes before you touch your plants. Keep your plants and house plants away from each other. Don’t bring plants in to your inside grow area, after they have been outside without a proper quatantine/ detox procedure.

I’m sure there are more I’m not thinking of right now. There’s a few rules to chew on for now.

Hase anyone tryed using Cinnamon to prevent bad bacteria, fungus and gnats? I’ve been looking Into it, but can’t find out if it will kill worms or not. Hopefully not.

Yeah I don’t take clones ever. Grow from seed only. I’ve only ever seen gnats 1 time in a new bag of soil. I tossed it out asap

I’ve wondered about breeding ptedator mites myself.

Neem meal in your soil is supposed to help some.

You need an ipm. This is your system for preventing infestations. It’s also not a bad idea to spray every once in awhile. Outdoors I spray every week and rotate what I use.

Gnats are tough man. I believe they are in most homes.

I have neem leave tea, organic. Gonna mix that into my soil. Why not. It’s natural and it might help out.

Plus it’s full of great nutrients.

I know some people use beneficial nematodes to help deter some pests.

I know outdoor, here, you have to start spraying for caterpillars in August.

Still, it’s hard to keep a tune gnat out that can fit through tiny cracks and just need a little fungus to live off of. A little stray water in the bathroom, and that’s all they need.

Yeah man. I’m lookin to build an army of helpful microbes and grubs ect. BEFORE I have any issues. So anything that’s been tried and works. I’ll get it done. And ofcourse without killing the beneficial bacterias

I love it man. Too bad I’m out of likes! :scream:

Wow. That’s terrible. I live in an apartment and likely used 15 tubes of caulking over the years sealing cracks and anyplace I think bugs could get In.

Looks wonderful Lab, if I had cabin in the woods like this I would be there every weekend in the summer.

I can’t commit to anything atm, and we couldn’t do a week unfortunately, but that is a very kind offer.

We are not even sure yet how much time the wife can get off work, she will have 3 and a half weeks official and paid, but the rest is at her companies discretion. They bitched when she asked for an extra 10 days unpaid leave the last time we went to the UK. It’s under new management now so hopefully they will ok it.

If there is enough food they will establish themselves, but once the food is gone they will die off.

I used predator mites for fungus gnats, they were extremely effective, I still have them present in my soil, as there is always fungus gnats present in my worm bin soil outside. I only see the occasional gnat now, I haven’t put a new yellow sticker in my veg tent since the mites were introduced. I just use the yellow stickers in the seedlings cabinet, as that’s where all new soil coming in goes first, once they are re potted in my big pots I don’t have to worry.

You can add nematodes, and other beneficial bugs and breed them if you have the time and correct environment. Probably easier to buy them though.

NIC stands for Natural Insect Control, they have a website.

Yes I have used cinnamon for deterring fungus gnats and thrips, didn’t work to well, and after a bit the smell gets disgusting, especially when neem is used as well.

Weedly Update.

Humidity has been low this last couple of weeks with the cold temps not getting above 42%. We are due for a thaw this week with over an inch of rain forecast for Tuesday. So I expect it will jump up them. I have some mould starting to develop around the door into my workshop from all the condensation created by the melting snow off the snow blower, every time I use it :frowning: I just sparked up half a TBS of sulphur in there to see how long it burns and how bad it smells. It smells like used fireworks, and makes me feel queasy now that I sniffed it.

In the Seedling Cab, most are producing lower branches after getting their tops staked down, hoping to see some sign of sex on the DBHP soon. The sun flowers are showing signs of deficiency so I will try and pot them up this week.

In the Veg Tent.

Its emptying again with just the 2 Sebs Rev which are getting pretty big now. I may start bending those branches down again this week now I have more space.

The 2 OH boys at the back getting tall, so they need some cropping The Ogers girl at the front will probably need some as well, she will get bigger when she hits the stretch after flipping.

In the Flower Room.

The 2 OHXPAC are smelling amazing and they are starting to produce a lot of trichs, I really like the way these are developing.

Big flower bud developing on the Sun Flower.

OH starting to bud up at the back, its not stretching much atm, and the Sebs Rev at the front is starting to look good.

The small Ogers at the back both are now 8 weeks, I will start checking the trichs next weekend probably.

Tall Oger at the front.

The SDXSL still suffering, I think it must be soil PH causing this problem they have had plenty of P and K, but its not changing anything and the spare in the small pot is looking really good compared to them, with bigger buds and its only at 5 weeks atm compared to the other 2 at 8 weeks and their pistils are only just starting to change colour.

Spare SDXSL

Cheers for Looking

I was thinking this as well.

Mixing up a new batch of sphagnum and https://buildasoil.com/ kit outback on the tarp and had more rain than I wanted…huge outbreak of gnats, only have a few tbls of Gnatrol left, so ordering some more.

Can we diy the(Bti) somehow?

The last batch I mixed was the same, used Gnatrol, insect frass, rice hulls and yellow sticky to wrangle them, so the room is clear now! , took about 2 to 3 wks to clean them up.

Weedly Update.

Weather has warmed up a bit for a little while, a nice balmy Tshirt day at +3C

I chopped down my Aloe mother plant the other day it kept falling over it was so big. I left all its 5 sibling plants in the pot to grow out. Got about 15lbs of large Aloe leaves about 20 inches long. So I made up some Aloe and liquidized dandelion to add to the water yesterday and today its gone bright pink, wtf. I want to drink it, it looks like pink grapefruit juice  :joy:

The Seedlings cab is really now a veg cab, the plants are growing fast now, I just need to hold them in there until I can fumigate the veg tent with some Sulphur burning, hoping tomorrow or Tuesday as long as this weather holds. A couple have lifted their stakes out and straightened up at the front left the rest are behaving themselves and throwing up lots of branches now. I tried sexing the DBHP’s but nothing to see atm :frowning:
The BBNK are feminized so I dont have to worry about them, I just want to get the DBHP in the big girls pots asap so they can be vegged to the max before flipping them with my vacation deadline in June.

The 2 patient Sebs Rev got a bit off a strip down.

The Ogers female still waiting to be flipped in 2 weeks the male OH are in the breeding cab, I installed a temp controller Tuesday and they got flipped the same day. Forgot about them so no pics lol. The Sun flowers have outgrown the seedling cab as well.

The sun flower in the Flower Room is taking off, its got 2 smaller flowers developing underneath the main one

The 2 PAC X OH starting to look really frosty and man do they stink, smells like fermenting fruits and berries, really lovely, I hope it stays with them through the cure. We had some friends stay the weekend, when they arrived they said what are you doing with the weed plants you can smell them at the end of the drive lol about 80 ft from where they are growing in the workshop :joy: They are at 7 weeks now I think trichs are still all clear.

The OH at the back and the Serbs Rev front got some thinning out this week as well, The OH is stacking up well for 3 weeks from flip I think.

The back Oger at 9 weeks now, not quite ready trichs are still changing no amber yet, about 50/50 clear to milky. The front Oger is the same, pics were to blurry to use.

I think the SDXSL is dying although its still covered in white pistils, either that or it cant handle the weight of those small buds.

This one at the back doing better trichs are the same as the Ogers but virtually no brown pistils.

The Spare SDXSL has brown pistils and doing much better to her other sisters

Cheers for looking.

Weedly Update.

In the Seedling Cab, plants are getting bigger hoping to get the BBNK in the big pots this week I just need to fumigate the veg tent, dropped back into a cold spell so I dont want to leave the back door window open to get the fumes out when finished doing a stinky sulphur burn. The DBHP will have to wait until they show sex.

In the Breeding cab the OH boys are making flowers.

Starting to get a phew now developing all over.

The new Inkbird Temp controller installed, even with all the sils in the light its struggling to keep the temps over 75F.

In the Veg tent sunflowers getting bigger and the Ogers girl is ready to go into the flower room now we have some pollen on the way.

The 2 Sebs Rev were looking hungry on Tuesday and I thought better give them some food, then thought perhaps I should raise the light first and see if its light burn. Looking much better now, I am starting to learn lol.

In the Flower Room.

Took down the Sour Diesel X Snow Lotus on Friday, very sticky plants, produced a lot of popcorn buds, I should have been more ruthless removing node points prior to the stretch or after. I recon about 120g dry from both when done.

Yesterday I took down the Ogers much better size colas and buds. Very nice looking buds and were starting to get purple tinges on the sugar leaves, no mite damage on these so I smoked all the scissor hash last night

Ogers buds.

At 7 weeks now we have the Pink Animal Crackers, the smell just keeps getting better 2 -3 weeks left on these.

Close up bud shot, nice and frosty. The vermiculite that got sprinkled on the leaves really stains or burns them a lot, once its on its hard to remove.

The one OH girl struggling with getting enough food in the stretch, this strain/pheno has a lot of leaves, needs thinning out again. I will do this strain again at a later date not doing it much justice atm.

The last of the SDXSL as a spare in a small pot she has fared much better than the other 2. She is 53 days from flip atm, so another 14 days to go for her roughly.

The Sebs Rev getting into gear now, looking fairly happy and healthy.

Last but not least the sunflower in the Sebs Rev pot started to bloom this week  I think the 12/12 time switch triggered it as well. Managed to snap off one of the 3 flowers when climbing in and out chopping and trimming yesterday.

Cheers for looking.
