I buy the 500ml concentrated Safers End All for what 1L of the premixed stuff cost. I add 10ml/L canola oil to really suffocate the bastards and ended a two year war against mites with it. Makes 10L.

Sodium or potassium hydroxide are much the same thing and used by tons of people to make soap. The pot. hydroxide makes a finer soap or something. I got a pound of it a few years ago and use it with Everclear to make the reagent needed to do the Beamā€™s Test for CBD. 5% solution and you only need a few drops for each test. I made 500mls of it and it may have gone bad. Will have to distill it to get my Everclear back so I can get pissed.

Hey Shadey. This morning the wife saw an ad on the FB Buy&Sell selling grow gear. I ended up scoring a near new 2x4x5ā€™h grow tent, no name 1500W LED cob light, 16L/min 2 speed air pump and a 4" vivosun inline fan for $175. Didnā€™t really need the air pump but he basically threw it in.

Now I have to figure out a space for the tent. Maybe downstairs outside the grow room but will have to hang some plastic to keep some heat in as itā€™s only 42F down there now. Could squeeze it into the grow room but would really jamb me up. Maybe the spare bedroom but already too warm with the lights the wife has on for her stuff. Iā€™ll figure something out.

If I get my inheritance someday Iā€™m buying a Ural bike with the side car and making a cross Canada trip. Two wheel drive with an axle to the sidecar wheel that can be switched on and off. Motels for sure!

We should see if we can meet up in Edmonton or something either coming or going. Get together for a coffee at least.

I bought 3 of those last year, found them on sale, the mites seem immune to it. I put a leaf with mites on, in a baggie and sprayed it with safers, it took two days to kill them, I think most died from drowning not poisoning :worried:

I would like to try and meet up, it would be on the way back though, wife wants full steam ahead going. I want to take more time coming back, and check out some of the sites and beauty spots.

Iā€™ve found with the End-all and pretty much any of the horticultural soaps itā€™s not very effective unless you can get it to foam up real good and cover your plants in big white suds.

Do you think if I added some washing up liquid to make it foamy it would work. I wonder if any of the night clubs around here have foam machines, go there with a pot under each arm :joy:

What I do is I mix up a 1L batch but only put in ~250ml into my pump sprayer, then I shake it vigorously to get the spray bottle full of suds, then unscrew the nozzle almost all the way off. Then just pump and spray, giving the bottle a good shake as you do it.

For me at least I can get it throwing out foam pretty good this way.

Another option is to put your mixed soap solution into a plastic bottle and put a piece of sock or panty hose over the opening. Shake it up to make it sudsy and squeeze the bottle and youā€™ll get great big clouds of foam that you can scoop off and lay on your plants.

Just learned the hard lessons early. When I first started growing indoor, I had allllllllll the worst problems happen pretty much right away. Mites, scale, budrot, root rot, mold, herming, fungas gnats, you name it I had it within my first 6 grows. I guess it was a blessing in disguise because of the knowledge I gained from it, but man it tested my resolve to keep going.

Yeah these fuckers are really testing mine as well :frowning:

@Scorpio Thanks for all the likes man, I recon you used half of all your daily quota on me today

Why the suds? Keep the plant wet longer?

That, and increasing the surface area of the soap.

Np, I appreciated the info you gave me and itā€™s the least I can do in return. HAGO!

I added 10ml/L cheap canola oil to each batch and it killed then dead no problem. Many of the special, and very expensive, mite sprays list canola oil as an ingredient. Dr. Doom for one as I used that crap almost 20 years ago. Overpriced Safers IMO.

Hell ya man. On the trip back you can relax and wander around a bit. Be a shame not to spend some time seeing the sights. Who knows we could even set it up to go to our family cabin and hang out there for a week. Just a beautiful spot to lay back and enjoy some trout fishing and sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows while smoking some bud. North up the Fraser canyon which is a beautiful drive on itā€™s own and once was the only route to the Klondike during the gold rush days. Got to stop at the old Alexandra bridge where I know the sneaky way to drive down so you save a rather arduous hike there and back. The deck is open mesh so you can look straight down into the thundering Fraser river. It will be full flood around that time of the year. Just north of that is Hellā€™s Gate that has a suspended cable car to go across for $50 each or something and is no better really than the view from the bridge.

Would be a ton of fun for all and not cost anything but fuel. Check out Marshall lake on google to see where our cabin is. 50 miles of decent gravel road but the last 2 miles around the back can be rough but doesnā€™t need a 4x4.

Iā€™m getting all hot thinking about it! My grandfatherā€™s fly rod is hungering for a decent trout! Iā€™ll bring lots of tackle and you can just troll behind the canoe all alone with the wife or just go out for romantic drift at sunset. Itā€™s really a beautiful place that Iā€™ve loved since we got the spot almost 60 years ago and built the cabin on it.

It has been rebuilt since the last time I was there on my 50th b-day 16 years ago and has an actual indoor biffy. No more outhouse! Great for the ladies but Iā€™ll miss that.

Would be a great side trip for you guys and a renewal for me so I would love to make this happen. I planned to get down to the valley in Oct if I could mainly to hit the coho run but will pass that up or do that later to get a run to the lake in late June/early July. Stinking hot up there in August so your timing is good. Our cabin is on the Shadey  side of the lake so no blast of sun at 5am too!

I need motivation to get off my ass and this would be a great opportunity for me to get going.

The old cabin at the start of the rebuild.

I donā€™t have any pics of the finished cabin so it would be a voyage of discovery for me too.

Stupid questions
How the FUK does anyone end up with gnats and other shitty pests Excatlty. ?

Also, predator mitesā€¦ Can we breed them before we actually need them? How about grubs, or other micro life we could add as a precaution?

A store? This is a good choice as a precaution?
