A Shadey spot to grow, Perpetual organic no till

I’ve never quite understood how that works. What stops the seeds from just falling to the bottom of the bag, or to the bottom of the paper towel if it’s folded in half?

Well one did just that so I took them back out, put all seeds point down and kind of squished the paper towel around it. It seems to have held them in place but time will tell.

That’s what I do press the towel around them, they stay put until you open the towel up.

Anybody ever just plant them into the medium they will grow in and let them do their thing naturally anymore?

I’ve tried every method possible in the last 40 years and finally just do it that way and get great germination and growth. I like to shake my seeds around in a sandpaper lined pill jar for a full 2 minutes then plant point up in the soil 3/4" down. Humidity dome until they sprout then out in the air for those.

My grow room is always 70 - 75F and sprouts or clones do seem to take an extra day or two but I’m never in a big rush. Less chance of fungal invasion at lower temps too.

Less steps = less work and I’ll always lean toward the lazy side of things.

I may end up going that route now that I am planting more seeds. When it was only a few at a time I guess I was just too hands on.

This is what I do. I just use a spray bottle to keep them damp.

Yeah, I get come across that and can not remember my account. Bugs me especially as I aM AN OLD FART. Accidentally hit the cap lock key. See! should show I am crusty. Something funny I found also. Especially on the lightning quick seed giveaways I had trouble with the spelling as a quarter of my keys hardly had any lettering left on them. Finally replaced it (oh I miss the feel of the old keys) and all the lettering crisp and visible. Still making the same mistakes with the new keyboard.

Maybe it is me.

Hey LR, good to see you again. I thought about just planting in soil, I was using coco up until the last run and things went well, other than the thrips mind you.

I seem to have a perpetual thrip thing going on myself. Not enough of a bother to spray so I end up spending more time with my plants hunting down the few I’ll find every day. That’s out of 10 medium size plants so not a big deal. No mites so I’m a happy camper.

I bought a big bag of coco to try one of these days. Hard to get and 3x the price of ProMix HP so I won’t be using it much. Looking to buy 10 bales of HP to set up my new outdoor grow space. Hoping to get a deal on them at the local Co-op.

HP Promix Mycorrhizae is the only medium I’ll use outside of water. For me, it’s awesome.

I’ve been using it since it first showed up here about 15 years ago. Was using Sunshine Mix #4 but had to add a lot of perlite to that. HP is good to go right out of the bale. Just grabbed one at the hydro store in Grande Prairie a couple weeks ago and it was $50! Got two here last year for $34 each and missed a sale at $27 so if I order ten I might get them for $25 each but with all the Covid problems not likely.

Have not been able to get any quantity of perlite tho and if I end up using more soil I’ll need lots.

That is all I have used for the last 6 or so years. I cant change as it’s been such a good medium to me!

HP promix is what I use in my soil mix as it has nutrients in it, its a quicker start than waiting for the soil to get active with amendments.

I have not seen any all year, I had to buy vermiculite the last 2 times I wanted perlite, it’s not as good.

My hands shake a lot so I am constantly miss hitting keys, I spend more time correcting typos than typing lol. I had to ask Joe for more editing ability, as I would run out lol.

Starting to pick up speed a bit now. The leaves are getting bigger but no height increase so the light is good there atm.

Well after just under 24 hours…had one pointed the wrong way, lol. I turned it around. Got me sold on the method. No squirrely circular tap roots.

If your looking for perlite, I get mine from the grow op shop in burnside. I think I paid 25$ for a huge 3cbft bag.

Damn friend. There’s bags of this stuff in most of the hydro stores here in Toronto

I purchased the wrong bag, always know what your asking them to hold at the Hydro store, lol. My bag of perlite is over 4 ft tall and won’t be running out for a while

I only use the grow off shop myself, but whenever I go they have none, the last lot I got from them was a big 60 liter bag I think, back in 2020.

My timing must be out of sink with their stocking shedule lol.
