I start them about 25% full and I will top them up as the plant grows, I put about another 3/4 of an inch in them yesterday.

I find it better to do it this way if they stretch a lot. The plant will continue to make roots higher up the stem as they grow which should speed up development.

Cheers for looking.

Not sure about that lol, struggled to remember what temp I needed to germinate the seeds lol.

I guess I will have to start adapting one of the LED lights soon.

A pic from Sunday after I topped up the cups with soil a bit and watered. The RH in the cab was only at 35% yesterday so I put a gallon of water in the big pot the cups are sitting on, its a nice 54% today and the leaves are no longer puckered up and have gone smooth and flat.

Cool!

Going to try that with the three seeds I have soaking currently. That makes sense to deal with the stretch, I have a couple that have really taken off with the stretch.

Another couple of days and they will get another inch of soil they are just peeping over the top of the cups this morning. If you have any Mycorrhizae sprinkle it around the stem every time you top up the soil, it helps boost the roots health and fungal growth.

Cool! Will try that one, have been having mixed luck on getting stuff to pop recently.

Turn the heat up, that’s usually what stops my seeds germinating properly. I need it around 80F for good germination rates.

I often pop seeds at lower temps. It just takes a lot longer.

going to crank the heat up then, i am like sitting around 75. I may be very impatient, but it also could be the wild temperature swings around here this winter.

I don’t mind having a few inches of stretch in my seedlings. Looks goofy when they’re small but once the plant is a few nodes tall it looks perfect and keeps the lower leaves from blocking airflow around the base that end up having to be removed. PM or stem-rot starts easier if it’s moist down there all the time too.

Everything seems to work tho.

That’s almost 27 degrees. Do you use a mat under your seedlings or just aim to make the space that temp?

Both lol, The heat mat doesn’t seem to want to get that hot, maybe gets to 74F which is what I started with. Had the seeds sat in a wet paper towel in a baggie, sadwhiched between my mushroom monotub and the heat mat.

So I put a small heater in there as well, set the temp gauge to 80F, hung the sensor halfway between the top of the cabinet and floor.

Then pinned the second lot of seeds to cab ceiling, in an envelope hanging vertically so the roots grew straight down, instead of a circle like they do when laying flat.

Usually I am not to bothered but as my height is limited in here compared to normal, I want to make sure I keep them as low as possible, they will get bent over, in those party cups when they get around 6 to 8 inches tall probably topped as well.

I have yet to try the vertical germination that I have seen. Do you have good results with it? It does actually look like you get straighter tap roots but am always nervous about switching it up.

Yeah better than just lying flat in a paper towel. Doesn’t seem to affect germ rates just how the tap root develops, it certainly makes putting them in soil easier.

Well I suppose fortune favors the bold so I just put my Grape Punch in a baggie and hung them from my tent ceiling. Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:
