I have my charms.

I’m very fortunate that she’s known me for a long time and knows what they are or I could have killed a really good thing before it started.

Then @shag I am sorry to say but your friend is foolish. There are many foolish people in the world, many of them good, so I am not saying he’s anything other than that. But to me, leaving a place like this with many good community members rather than not engage with seed trading or giveaways as @Coda pointed out does in fact mean he was here for the seeds and he thinks he is too good for OG, or he does not have a good sense of the world we live in.

No, it emphatically is not, and is a passive-aggressive accusation against another respected member here, which is not what we do. You are a very active and knowledgeable member here but you’re acting in ways in this thread which are illogical and displaying most of the cognitive distortions of negative thinking that can result from or lead to mental illness such as depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and other common issues, which I experience.

These are them:

  • All-or-Nothing Thinking.
  • Overgeneralization.
  • Mental Filters.
  • Discounting the Positive.
  • Jumping to Conclusions.
  • Magnification.
  • Emotional Reasoning.
  • “Should” Statements.

You are not a moderator or any sort of site authority, just like me, and Overgrow does not need a white knight riding in to save it, I certainly don’t and I almost got scammed this week! But I don’t care, it made me look around and go you know what there’s lots of good folks here and I should just take a second to appreciate that and also to use my noggin before I start slapping stamps on cards to strangers.

I agree with what @Foreigner said, what we need is to keep doing what we are doing because it is fine, and not start a red letter system against other members instead of using our common sense. Please stop agitating and attacking other members who won’t share your sense of distress and urgency about something that is well within the control of every individual user to make their own decisions about.

I only trade seeds I’ve made so I’m never out of pocket for anything more that the postage. for the most part I am willing send seeds to people without the expectation of anything in return other that hoping they will grow and enjoy them. I find that most people won’t hear of it and will offer something back. I don’t get caught up in feeling negative about any trade as they are only seeds and I’ve been around long enough, had enough crops ripped off etc. to have learned that expectation is the first step on the road to disappointment. Be prepared for the worst, be pleasantly surprised by the best
Besides I’d be flinging seeds like Johnny Appleseed if I had them… like with one of those leaf blowers out the window of a moving car

The old way worked ( edicquette )
You never asked for seeds , they had to be offered earned

Gave connections seeds and trade more value

Going back a few years and the only seeds available were Co op boxes and what was personally offered to you on a personal one to one basis
This system worked better I feel

Another consequence on top of the others I mentioned earlier , is I’m sure sponsorers on here that sell seeds are takin a hit also

This topic is not directly about free seeds but more about the indirrect effects it causes
To members and site in the long run

Quantity over quality ( a result of legalisation in all areas of cannabis it seams now , site included )

I hear much fear and much love in this thread, I’d resume by saying we all want just peace, but not looking for it the same way.
As says my nickname, you only live once, no time for regrets, cuz they prevent us from loving, but that’s just my own way of seeing life. Even scammers are people living with regrets and fear, I will just have pity on them, not intend them more harm than they probably already suffered.

@ifish, @Coda, @Motaco , @DougDawson and 555oNhN@ and just everyone else, I give you all my best wishes of peace and happiness.

Keep safe, keep love :kissing_heart:

There are some, but they are so gently that does not put in public threads.

I’m still not in that group, I have given some, but is very low ratio with what I have received. Hope to change that soon.

When I first started posting on this site I was giving seeds away freely to anyone that wanted them. Especially newbies as you can see in this thread:

Many of these newbies I sent to are no longer members and never did as requested of posting pics and sharing their grows. But still I kept giving away seeds freely.
I sent DrGonzo13 six strains of his choosing when he first arrived and months later in a trade got burned by him only to have him try to make that right many months later. He didn’t exactly send what was promised but at least he sent something.
The bottom line is that if you give away seeds freely than expect for some to take advantage of that and do as they please.
We don’t live in a perfect world and never did,
But on a whole the people of OG are a very generous group of people in not only with seeds but knowledge and most importantly friendship.
Let’s not cast a dark shadow on the site because of a few bad apples, you will always have a few and only you can stop them from ruining the whole crate…….

That’s what I was thinking too.

I could be giving out a few seeds right now, but the fact of the matter is I don’t feel like the work I’m doing on them is done, not by far. And that’s important for me, to feel like what I’m giving out is a wholesome product of my work, and not just a pollen chucked F1 cross that I’ve tested only once or maybe not even once.

Not saying that I judge anyone for choosing the above method though. I mean, as long as there is honesty in how the seed was obtained, I’m cool with anything that’ll get my boat to float. But for a return effort I’d rather do something else or give back once my lines are worthy of having my stamp of approval.

I don’t expect my stamp of approval to be liked by everyone either, but it’s kind of like changing who you are just to fit in… Eventually no ones knows who you really are. I know it’s not the same, but still; in my head, what I send out into the world should have some of my essence into it.

As for “all these scammers”.

There’s this thing in my head.

I’ve made a trade the other day, it’s been a while now actually, where I promised a return art piece. One thing led to another and the first art piece I made ended up on my own mantle because of a combination of factors in shipping that I’ll refrain from boring you with. Anyway, I agree with the sender of the seeds to make something else that will be easier shippable. But as it goes with me, and I imagine it goes likewise for many other artists, whenever I have set myself at the drawing board the past weeks, I am plagued by lack of inspiration, seemingly not getting the lines right whatever I try, ending up with the wrong proportions, not being able to get the picture from my head onto the paper, or simply not getting the picture clear enough in my head.

So after a couple weeks you start gathering this sense of imposter complex, even though I did make a first artpiece, and I am actually taking time to make a new one. But I still realise the person on the other end is not seeing any of that and for all I kow everyone here is about to look at me like I’m trying to sell a sob story in return for seeds.

It’s giving me this sense of imminent alienation that I recognize from all the years I was bullied as a kid, and it’s making me re-assess the amount of healing I’ve done in that regard as well.

What I would like, is for people to be real, and to hold reality for what it is. I won’t hold any grudge towards anyone who finds it hard to return something as long as there is effort given, and on the other side there should be time and willingness to listen given.

There will always be people who have some growing up to do. And let’s face it, until we die, we best keep on learning, so the wise man is never truly done growing up. There is much value to be found in open communication and listening to one another. The kicker is that intrinsic to this value is each and every one’s ability to take the communication to heart and implement it’s implications. Without that, no communication has positive value.

I often think I’ll be able to do something easily and quickly only to find out it takes many failures and much time. If I apply this experience to the fact that I’m not unique in every way (even though every human is unique in their own ways) I understand that many other people, including here on this site, will have had or will come to have some trouble in their planning of their trade agreements, and most of these troubled plannings will have most probably come from the best intentions nonetheless.

I’m not a big Christian, but I was baptized, and I rarely enter a church, the institution is a near complete abomination as far as I’m concerned, but I do try to practice common sense from time to time in a “what would Jesus have done” type of way, not that that should be taken too litteraly, because I don’t actually ask myself that too often.

Applied here, I’d say he would have just sown more seeds.

Not everyone has the room for such things, but I do try to make the absolute most of my room, not rarely to spacial detriment even. Am I to judge someone for doing differently?

Everyone does things differently.

And every once in a while, a seed whore like us, but with no intention of returning any effort, will get a winning raffle ticket.

Even the damned will get a good day once in a while.

All very good points, and your response is much appreciated. I disagree tho. There are more than a ‘few’ bad apples these days, here on og, and in all strata.

A few bad apples, was like 1987, that ship has sailed.

Sleuth and deception has replaced integrity and hard ass work. Such a shame, thank you Albert :frowning:

I agree, don’t beg for seeds! personally find it pretty demeaning to the whole spirit of the plant when people do it. I say stick around and don’t be a know it all dick or the helpless beggar and seeds will come to you. A minority don’t want to make a time investment; they just want OG members to be a bean vending machine without bringing anything back. I get the frustration brother, nobody likes a leech. Use the pips, check threads, talk shop for a while, imho you can get a good feel 90% of the time and the other 10%? Send em hermie hemp seeds😛

I am not good with it. Viscious swift justice for all digressions. It is getting way out of hand. I am not in the camps of 1. just a few bad apples, or 2. it’s just seeds, dont ship what you dont want to lose. Accountability and integrity are severely lacking across the world, this is just a microcosm so to speak.

Being overly permissive, seems to be par for the course across the board these days. peeps cant handle tuff luv anymoe???!!!

“i’ve had a ruff life, so I deserve to be coddled by everyone.” Losers, and beggars need a faceplant:) Not have excuses made for them, like 'oh, they’ve had it tuff, or whatev’s"

Peeps have had it tuff forever, you get what you earn. You steal and get caught, I dont care. eff off, and choke on a seed:)

Shag, your not alone in your assessment as evidenced by other posters. I may not agree with every point but overall i get what your saying and would like to see something change.

One of the things that does bother me in this discussion, and in other discussions where you’ll get various opinions is the group that comes in to defend and deflect. The mocking off topic posts are an attempt to humiliate and silence. Some dont want to allow you to express your opinion as it doesnt align with their own. They know full well your talking about a specific group but want to lump all into their argument to defend.

Some of the whores here have it down to a science… they even know how to get their’s after a dib’s has expired…

I see the way things are as a surefire way to invite more of the Dr G types… i personally think they adapt and continue as they arent removed.

I get some have a whole different way of seeing and feeling about this topic, and i’m ok with that. But to continue to offer the other cheek is silly to me. There has to be a happy medium between the groups… i’d like to see an actual discussion attempting to address the thieves. With the way society has changed i dont see it getting any better on it’s own. Can the groups agree enough to compromise and put in effort to eliminate the those here to take advantage?

A young man named Eddy bought a horse from a farmer for $250. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.
The next day, the farmer drove up to Eddy’s house and said, “Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the horse died.”
Eddy replied, “Well then just give me my money back.”
The farmer said, “Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.”
Eddy said, “Okay then, just bring me the dead horse.”
The farmer asked, “What ya going to do with him?”
Eddy said, “I’m going to raffle him off.”
The farmer said, “You can’t raffle off a dead horse!”
Eddy said, “Sure I can, watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.”
A month later, the farmer met up with Eddy and asked, “What happened with that dead horse?”
Eddy said, “I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars a piece and made a good profit.”
The farmer said, “Didn’t anyone complain?”
Eddy said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back.
