All these scammers

I am trying to eat my lunch and you are causing me to choke.

Yes, that is correct, and it makes my point for me.
@DrGonzo13 would still be here scamming seeds if he was not forcibly stopped.
So it would have continued on maybe forever?
Should we expect the same thing to happen with the next scammer?
Where do we draw the line?

Make no mistake the current line drawn is when you screw the site out of money.
That seems a bit too late for me.

I know I’ve seen it mentioned here a number of times by some longtime Overgrow members. On a different site they offer two levels for members. To move from level one to level two you start a grow journal, start from seed and go all the way through jarring up the fruits of your labor. Doing this you’ve become invested in the site and have put in some effort to reach “the next level” .

Something to consider as I believe it would eliminate a certain element.

Discussion is good : )

Issue is not everyone is in a safe place to publicly document all of their grows, and it still would not affect the hard core scammers. Hugh_glass and drgonzo13 both had journals here.

Trust level is not a good indication of trust at all.
Trust level only indicates you are a regular poster ect.
It is not hard to get Trust level 3, not hard at all.
And trust level 3 does not mean you can be trusted, how can it if it is only based on post count etc.

A trade based trust level would be a great addition.
You could see what was given and what was received.
That would be awesome.

But as I have been told, this is not my site and I should mind my own business.
So I am throwing it out there if anyone wants to bit, but please see is as nothing more than that.

Some folks are still in unfriendly areas. It would be unfair to members who don’t feel safe posting a grow.

Yes they played the longer game for the bigger reward
But they were still relatively new yet overly trusted by a lot of members

Well just being honest the current requirements to advance trust levels is a bit too easy I’m thinking. I don’t trust the trust levels.

We have now shown several examples of very giving folks starting to pull back on their generosity.
More will soon follow.
Are we really going to continue pretending this is not happening?
Someone said something about reality earlier.
If you say it is not happening, you are not in touch with my reality anyway…LOL
The 2 do seem to be different…so there is that. :upside_down_face:

Base your trust on interactions. Get to know people, that’s the only true way to really gain trust. :v:

I can’t help but wonder if they were/are one and the same.

Could they also be JamesLax, Eagles009, and numerous others?

I’m wondering how widespread the issue actually is. One with a dozen sock accounts. Or a dozen with a single account?

I suspect I’ll never know, and suspect many here won’t care. That’s fine… I’ll just need to adapt.

the people i tend to end up trusting the most are usually the ones who trust me the least up front, it seems to be a natural progression like learned coping mechanisms. in places where people are tightly packed and limited in rights or access to things it is obviously more pronounced. living in the suburbs can make you lose your wits.
the last thing ill say is just dont let guilt drive you. as people have said here thats how they get you with scams. guilt or fear, fear doesnt work here im guessing. once they see that itll work theyll never give up.

Quick question. Can a member in good standing on OG create another second account running simultaneously with the first one? And if so what does it take just another email account? I guess I’m asking if you can only have one account per IPS or ISP (whatever it is)??

Consider this, you and I know few here. Not personally. Or, at best, maybe a few met face-to-face interactions. Otherwise, you are talking to anonymous individuals.

If someone feels like giving away seeds to individuals that they don’t know, have had no prior interactions with them, little posting history, and then later complain … consider it a learning exercise.

Of note, calling out of active users here will close this thread. Remain non-confrontational. If there is an issue with a particular user, reach out to the moderation team.

It happens though the moderation team may ban both accounts if/when that occurs. Without warning. Without notice.

A notable percentage of individuals creating such sock accounts are of the bad behavior type. At minimum, it’ll receive negative attention.

OG isn’t ip locked. You can create another account using a different email address.

Well if that is indeed a fact that would seem to be an issue worth addressing. It would make sense that if someone is not playing nice that all of their accounts the ones you know about and those still unknown are all eliminated at the same time by blocking the IP?

I’m sure there are ways around that too but at least it is a deterrent no?
