So I was out at my guerilla spot today prepping for the start of the season when I noticed a circular hole almost resembling the start of a sinkhole about 20feet away from where I’ve been growing for the past 2 years. so I investigated further by moving the sticks and scrapping up the dead plants and grass in the center and what I found kinda scared me… dark black soil with small white pieces of perlite. So it’s definitely potting soil from Someone’s old grow right? That’s the only possible thing I can think of. I looked further and found a few more holes that looked exactly the same but only one other one had the dark potting soil in it. the others mostly just had the natural soil still in it but are obvious grow spots. So my questions for you all are these
-how long do you all think that soil has been there?
-does perlite decompose after a few years or does it stay there forever?
-should I continue to use this spot or move on to another?
-there were small dirt piles next to each hole but they were coverered in dead plants and grass so I’m guessing it could be old but what do you all think
this is a picture of one of the old holes I found you can see just slightly the dirt in the middle that is sunk down a bit where the hole was dug and the dirt pile to the right side where old dirt was put. How old do you think this might be?
Oops that’s the wrong picture
this is what I meant. The above post is actually the dirt once I scrapped off the top layer of dead grass. If you find shredded up disposable baby diapers in a hole go ahead and plant in it. I will find another place.
There is all ready to much to worry about with growing off the record outside. Any time I have think if something is right or wrong I write it off as wrong and move on…
Hope you have success, I’ve never gotten a harvest outside, guerilla growing, finally got my med card hoping I can make a legit outdoor happen soon! Stay safe!
And to add to that, I wouldn’t plant anywhere you suspect someone else of encroaching the site. If your weed stinks or is vigorous id imagine you’d be in some trouble.
Well like I said I’ve been growing at this spot for 2 years and got all the way to harvest and nobody ripped anything so either they didn’t want to waste their time on my bad looking plants or I was lucky enough to harvest them just before they did. I think I might invest in a hunting camera and put it somewhere around the spot and check it periodically throughout the season and if I see something I’ll just move them.
Yeah phototrap might do the trick… I don’t think perlit will decompose in years, rather in decades… Good luck! If you’ve got success last year on the spot, I would stick with this place and consider it tested…
Keep a look out for foot prints. If you start at the center of your grow and circle your out you will find any foot prints left behind.
I think it’s crazy that me and some other random guerilla grower picked almost the exact same spot in the same wooded area hopefully years or decades apart.
Must be a good looking spot…
Yeah not trying to brag but its pretty sweet. Tall grasses to camouflage the plants, gets a pretty good amount of sunlight everyday, soil stays decently moist even on the hottest summer days and has a close by stream for watering. Only issue is the damn deer all over the place lmao. Had a fawn walk up on me last year and it was so curious it kept creeping up closer and eventually walked up almost 10ft away from where I was standing.
That’s something I really enjoy when out guerilla growing, the wildlife is so interesting. I’m from the county but have been living in town and when I scoured my spot, which is in the middle of about 80acres of woods in the middle of town, lots of old industry boarders the property… But these deer aren’t afraid of people because you can’t hunt them in town so it’s always fun seeing how close you can get.
That sounds like a pretty sweet spot can’t wait to see what you can do this season!
Bad choice u should never start a grow in a obvious old spot because even if the old tenant isn’t in that spot YET they might b back after u have already planted and now all they have to do is leave the work to u and come back to harvest. Even if they don’t use that spot they may be growing near by and if there " bad " people u may run into them and u might not make it outta the woods
Good rule of thumb I do the same thing
