Any guitarists here ? I’m a jam band guy myself

I do not even know what the paints were for, it has been a while using them. I was looking at automotive paints but darn paint sure went up in price since I last bought some. Now that I have it strung up I found I have a couple of frets that need dressing. I an going to have a hard time taking the strings off though. Just noodling around with it then changing to my Peavey, it seems oppressively heavy. Going to have to work on toughening up the fingertips now.

Once I moved away from hammering the frets in, I had almost zero fret leveling issues. I started pressing my frets in with something like this,

This gets chucked in your drill press. The idea is to have repeatable results. Anyway, I thought I would pass this along. :v:

Curious what you’ll think of them. going from 10s to 11s for me was a night and day improvement so I’m curious if you’ll like them.

Then again Billy Gibbons plays 8s :open_mouth:

Stevie ray Vaughn played a set starting with 13s on the high e string
I think that may be what killed him

I have used 12s before. They give your hand a good workout. If you use those 12s until they need to be changed, and go back to 9s or 10s, You will be able to fly thru the bends and vibrato. Try it.

They sell those strings in mens?

045-105 here, sometimes as high as 130

Ah JK, you ladies are alright…

I love these strings as are the zingiest strings I’ve ever played. They keep that new string tone for a while which is a big deal to me at $50 a pack.

Same holds true for their guitar strings, if you’re into that kind of thing.

10’s are far better than the 9’s I think it’s 11s on my hollow body guitar they feel little bit fatter than the 10’s

Someone told me you can string a Les Paul with any bigger than 9’s don’t know if it’s an old wife’s tale lol but I’ve been practicing an hour a day beeen crazy busy since I got married lol

I put a new nut on my cheapo strat its to big it’s hanging over the sides of the neck so I just cut it to size

The boys from Mastodon play Gibsons, and they tune low.

strung with D’Addario XL Nickel Wound 0.60’s to suit the low tunings used by the group.

@anon98660487, gonna warp the groove out of all your picks jamming them in your strings like that. Personally I keep them in a little dish, and then proceed to lose them all over the house by the dozens

Once I learn to play guitar better I’ll buy better strings
At the minute I can’t tell the difference between good and bad strings

I just mean to say this guy plays 12-54 on a Les Paul

All comes down to personal preference. Having major endorsements probably helps too.

I’ve been looking at fender mustang amps,I was looking at orange amps but the fender has more things to play with
I have a little peavy vypyr amp

Owned both fenders and oranges.

Had a fender hot rod with great tone even at moderate volumes. The tubes would sing. To really open it up you would need to throw a mattress over top or be playing a stadium, it was that loud. I got into upgrading and repairing the amp but sold it before I did anything foolish like accidently discharging the caps into my arms.

Also worthy mention was the fender deluxe 112 plus. 90W solid state with an awesome drive section. There was no conceivable way this amp could be turned up past 4, at that volume it was loud enough to register on the richter scale.

Orange gear doesn’t really sound great until you drop $1000+, at which point I was hesitant to take it out to gigs. Their build quality has gone down a lot too, unless they got their act back together recently.
Nice cabinetry though.

Check out the monoprice amps if you want a nice toneful tube amp that wont break the bank. Exact same thing as the Vox AC4TV and all the other mini tube amps all the big companies are selling now but a third of the price. It’s such a simple circuit it can’t really go wrong. You can get a beauty tone and not alienate your wife and neighbours

Amps offering DSP as a selling feature often sound lacklustre without.

SRV was a friggin guitar alien! I didn’t realize he played 13s but that’s crazy. 11s are the sweet spot for me, 12s would be playable but not as comfortable I’m guessing. I don’t want to try 13s in any tuning higher than C#.

Those would work great if you didn’t apply and bends or skill to them and just thumped along with single notes! :stuck_out_tongue:

Someone lied! Zakk Wylde was running 11s on his LP, Brendon Small from Dethklok plays an LP in C# exclusively so there’s no way he’s running 10s on it tuned that low. Slash plays 11s on his LP too.

An hour a day consistently is great. I’ve never practiced (and for years even played) consistently and it’s a shame cause if I had kept at it I would probably be able to play just about anything I wanted by now. I can play 80% of anything I attempt, and the 20% of stuff I can’t is difficult enough that I’m not beating myself up over it.

Actually now that I think about it I’ve never actually “practiced”, just sat down and played stuff. I really robbed myself with this technique but I always had fun!

This guy guitars!

There’s probably a little truss rod tuning for 12s but you can put any strings on anything if you’re willing to adjust the truss as far as I know. For 11s I don’t know that the tension is increased enough to have to change anything. On my guitar it didn’t but I’m a little longer scale than an LP I believe.
