Any HLVD experts in here?

Trying to determine if it is hlvd or just funky genetics, took in some clones earlier in the year(locally not mine), low yield. Didnt look right. Seeds have had funky leafs since the start. I have used the same scissors trimming the mothers, i have reused planting pots, even though i have cleaned them. Leafs just look wrong, one of the clones looks like it has horizontal branches, at the same time i crop these clones at about 3 inches high so they bush out. Just cant tell. The two mothers are definitely root bound at about a year old, they are just for pulling clones. Any thoughts.

You have to test.

Thats what I figured i have been looking at test they want you to order a minimum of 10 at 25$ a test.

Sometimes you can see visual indicators if the plant is symptomatic but it’s not concrete. You have to test. No way around it.

3 Rivers Biotech does testing for $15 and no minimum. People have had good things to say about them from what I’ve heard.

Awesome ty, for that post, this what i was looking for if one has it they all do i was too sloppy earlier this year.

To be sure you would have to test. All signs point to HLVD in those pics. I have dealt with it more than I’d prefer. I bet with the mom on the right if you pushed down on one of those branches they’d snap right off. If you decide to test them a root test is the only way to go the leaf tests are absolutely useless. I would get rid of them, HLVD is not worth the headache with clean genetics pretty readily available. I just tossed Dantes Inferno, Honey Banana, Spritzer, Banana Og, Gapes and cream just to name a few it’s very clear in flower if they’re expressing.

I am willing to break a few branches, curious how you would know the difference between a branch breaking normally and hlvd branch breaking? I k ow they are supposed to be weaker, the plant on the right is the stronger of the two.

What signs ?

Farmer Freeman has a single test, it’s 50 bucks but worth it if the plant itself is worth it to you :+1:

The two moms each show symptoms. The one on the left has tight internodes with smaller yellowing leaves very typical with hlvd. The one on the right looks to have the undersized fan leaves could also have the stunted petioles wich is common and last on that one is the bowing branches. that would most likely pop right off if he pushed down on them.
the teen that is posted with that lateral growth is also extremely common with infected clones.
testing is the only way to be conclusive but it would be cheaper and quicker to just replace the genetics.

Also a 10% bleach solution is the only thing that kills this stuff a ten second soak on scissors at least and a bleach wipe down on all surfaces that touch plants.

From experience you will know once it happens to you. It’s weird but the leaves just snap off with barely any downward pressure. It’s like the plant is dead. Zombie plant. :skull:

I’ve dealt with HLVD years ago and decided not to get clones locally anymore. I had to toss everything and start fresh from seed. I’m in California and I am pretty sure most nurseries here are infected. Also when you flower them out they have very little frost, fluffy buds.

they just pop off and peel real easy a healthy plant will generally will take some force before breaking or folding. try a lower from the mom on the right she’s got the look. I have to admit I took this one too far at my last job, some genetics have weak branching and pop off just as easy. But after testing we found most that had this trait were infected.

It was a bitch to get that branch off had to cut it.
Only dying leaves will come off with force or have to be cut off.

You saw the things i saw thus the concern and the photos i shared, like I mentioned the lateral growth I believe in the original post just seemed obvious right, thin too. Those clones(teens) have not grown in size in a month maybe more. Put a clone in hydro n they take off idk.

LED lights produce smaller leaves in general versus HID. Tight internodes are an indicator of nothing. Yellowing leaves could be nutrient related. You don’t even know what and how he’s feeding his plants.

I also thought the plants(clones/teens) would explode like normal when moving from red solo cup to large soil bag, same size as red solo cups though.

The wrong way, is how i feed my plants im sure, i buy hydroponic nutrients my the gallon jug for my systems. So you might say these have never seen soil nutrients.

I was just saying, the yellowing doesn’t mean anything. Could be nutrient related
