Anyone bought a Push mower recently?

Hey all. just curious if anyone has any suggestions for a smaller push mower as my 15-year-old Husqvarna just blew up. cylinder moving but it spots fuel and soot out the exhaust and something is banging around. I already threw it on the curb and I’m not ripping it apart because it’s old enough.

so anyone like anything they’ve got recently?

Yeah… my riding mower!

If I was looking for a push mower I’d look for something with a Briggs and Stratt engine, they always held up for me.

Can’t go wrong with a Honda or anything with a brigs and Stratton

I’ll third a Honda. Had one for 15 years before the thing finally crapped out. The new one still works but the mechanism that raises and lowers the level of the mower broke in the front and I need to get that fixed.

From what I’ve heard, if you want a Honda you better get it soon. Word is that they’re shutting down the mower division. I really hope it’s not true and/or they change their mind. Great machines. Although they like others have to deal with the EPA and as a result the “run perfect anytime” machines are a thing of the past unfortunately.

I’ve used a self propelled Honda for years and I love it. Since I got a bigger place I only use it for small areas and a zero-turn for the rest of the yard.

However I recently tried my brother’s electric push mower and I’m going to switch out the Honda as soon as I can afford it. It’s much quieter and my hands weren’t left with that weird feeling they get from vibrating for hours. It runs much smoother and it felt much lighter. If you have a smaller yard I would go electric.

I just bought the Kobolt 40v MAX electric self propelled, bagger/side eject/mulching mower.
I have to say I’m impressed. Not even a full charge and my yard is done.

Yeah electric mowers have their place for sure but for those of us commercial cutters (hence my username) who maintain multiple properties in rural areas on a regular basis, there is no substitute for a reliable gas mower at this point in time. I LOVE my Honda HRX! Honourable mention to TORO Recycler :sunglasses:

thanks for all the suggestions. I do have a small yard and probably could get away with an electric one. I just don’t know if I wanna deal with not smelling like gasoline, and where am I gonna get my shed floor stains now? bodies?

Totally agree with electric mower. Works just as well as gas and two years after I bought mine batteries still work great. I have a normal sized home, average suburban front and back, able to easily do on a single charge and still have charge to weed whack

Stop mowing and throw a bunch of flower and vegetable seeds around and let them grow with the grass. Flowers are so much nicer than a boring carpet. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s a win-win, free food and less work.

This one is guaranteed not to blow up in your life time.

Snapper is a good mower. Mine is 30 years old and still running strong.

Just got a greenworks 40v electric. Runs and cuts like a champ. Probably a good 45-hour of time cutting, probably less with self propelled. I can mow my yard twice on one charge. Only had it a month though. Nice to never have to worry about oil or sparkplugs or 2 stroke fuel/etc.

@Rogue if you do that, it’s gonna look like an abandoned lot, and in most places in America, the city will literally come mow it for you and charge you, possibly even fine you for ordinance violation.

@avr1 I mowed a 5K sq foot yard with a 19" reel mower for years and lemme tell you in retrospect that it fuckin’ sucked. Have to mow twice, once in one direction, then perpendicular to that, to actually get a decent cut quality. It took me almost an hour 2x a week and it’s even worse with hills and uneven surfaces. God help you if it’s long because you missed a mow. That being said, it does “slice” the ends a bit cleaner, somewhat less ragged than a power mower.

I’ve had a kobalt 80V since maybe 2016. I love it. The best part is not smelling like gas when you’re done. Second to that — you can just turn it off as much as you want, because there’s no effort to restart it. And it’s lot quieter. Battery rules.

Gotta dress it up a bit, one can put a bird bath in the middle and create walking ways with wood chips.
You can design it to look nice, it’s a bit of work at first but then no more mowing and very little maintenance.

Not a dick measuring contest. more of a I know how you feel thing. My dad’s house back where I grew up had 2 front side yards and a back yard that were all about 6ksqft each. took me forever as a kid pushing that damn mower!!! he bought a tractor after I went to the navy. that ass!

Pointless labor builds character lol.

And like @pharmerfil said, the noise of electric is less than half of gas mowers and yep, no vibration on the handle. Light enough that I don’t use the self propel function.

Electric the way to go it takes me about 39 min and my battery still 3/4 charged. When the grass is tall it sense it and rev up I have a Ryobi. Cut great and light enough you can move it anyway you need
