Are there any Overgrow members that go camping?

We just pack clothes, food and dog food everything else is in pop-up pillows, blankets, towels and let’s not forget beers/booze/recreationals…Yeah we usually stay 5 days on weekdays when the campgrounds is almost empty, wknds. are packed with way to many campers.

Guilty of that…we have propane heater, hot water & heated mattresses…we eat what we want like we’re at home…we’ve never had burgers/hotdogs. We love making our own pizza. Did I say I was pushing 60yrs. old? Just had a birthday yesterday.

Ice maker is the shiznit, we always need ice

We also have a streaming box we get all the basic/premium cable channels and can watch current movies which are in theaters…

Air conditioner for the hot ass summer days

Nowadays this is our way of camping/glamping…:face_with_hand_over_mouth::yum:

Yep. , @PhilCuisine see you have been through these parts before. That is in Casey. A guy over there named Bolin owns a fairly big business and builds all that stuff in his shop. I’m 16 miles east of there. If you have never been you would definitely like Lincoln Trail. Through the week you can usually find a spot in the timber off all by yourself. I kept a pontoon there on the lake for several years for fishing. We also ran the restaurant and bait shop in the park but are no longer doing that. I usually go there 3-4 times a year but I just sold my motor home about a month ago. I just couldn’t justify the cost no more than I used it. I am planning on buying good tent camping equipment or a pop up, air conditioner included that I can store away and don’t have upkeep, license and insurance. They have gotten way to expensive in illinois. If you make it to this area again get with me. I could take a guy for a pretty cool side by side ride in the fall

Just got pop-up plates from IL. SoS…$30:money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face:
I thought it was going to cost me $118 but my friends who work at IL. SoS said I should get a Recreational Trailer plates.
Yeah, this new Gov. of IL. jacked up all the renewal cost of vehicles but some people get the wrong plates on their vehicles. Pop-ups need RT plates $30 a yr. Not TA plates $118… I have a homemade utility trailer and it only cost me $19 for life believe it or not no renewals for ST plates. Those are what the SOS of IL. workers told me are the correct plates for my trailers.

Thank you bromigo

:joy: everybody has a different way of doing it. I like your way better than mine, except for prep and cleanup! That’s great looking spread. I’m gonna have to go eat now.

Believe me, we love and miss regular tent camping and just sleeping under the stars but at our age it’s just way too tough on us…at least we still go out and enjoy nature and the outdoors. We joined an Illinois pop-up campers group this year and our 1st. Rendezvous is at Middlefork Forest Preserve it’s a hidden gem with 3 small fishing ponds and big campsites. And it’s less than 2hrs. from home.

Middle Fork River Forest Preserve contains 1,702 acres composed of old hardwood timber, reforested lowlands, grassy meadows, and in-progress prairie restorations. Rich in trails, Middle Fork contains one of the region’s premier Waterfowl Management Areas, and it is also home to a favorite camping area, the Harry L. Swartz Campground. Illinois’ first International Dark Sky Park!

One of the things nobody tells you before moving to Colorado is that despite all the great camping, if you don’t book sites in March, you won’t ever get a spot at a campground. So in part we adapted out of necessity. We take spots off forest service roads rather than campgrounds which are always filled with visitors from out of state.

If we drive out farther south or west in the state we can get sites, but usually that requires at least a 3 day weekend. So we mostly end up going primitive camping to a few spots we like nearby. Sometimes we’ll even go setup camp by our favorite hiking areas just so we can get in early. Even a few of those are getting too busy to reliably get parking at the trailhead.

I could stand 30.00 for pop up plates, that is a bargain in this state. Are you saying you got $19.00 lifetime plates from Illinois?

For a small homemade trailer?

Until the tailgate lets go. I had mine pop open thankfully nothing like this. I Daddy was an expert on ingenuity. I have seen alot. I’m just glad I got a 8’ box and tiedowns. Not to mention a 4 place slant Snowmobile trailer. I just need to sell it and the 4 sleds

Yes for a homemade utility trailer…I asked for a regular TA plate sticker and she asked me questions about my homemade utility trailer and said I need a ST plates and its gonna be $19 and no annual renewals…

It is hard to convey sarcasm over typed communication.

@lefthandseeds you need to ask some of your local buddies for the good spots

A friend of mine who was in the Marines would always laugh at those memes that would show a cabin in the woods and it would say “could you live here for a month without internet for a million dollars?” He would joke that he lived way worse than that for 4 years for way less than that. Can’t imagining having to be paid a million bucks to live my dream.
