Are these thyroid issues?

Well steak has alot of B12 as well. Animal foods are our natural source of B12. It’s important to have enough folate (leafy greens or a supplement even) when taking B12, as well as potassium. When I started tracking my food I found I was never even close to enough potassium so started eating lots of potatoes too.

You can also buy a jar of powdered potassium citrate online, 1/4 of a teaspoon is about 500mg. I toss it in with smoothies and stuff to try and get some extra…it’s super cheap and the jar will probably last me a decade haha. Keep in mind it’s bad to overdo it and hyperkalemia can be dangerous so start very slow and see how your body likes it. Magnesium can be helpful too and a majority of people out there are deficient.

If you’re losing weight that quickly I don’t know what else it could be besides thyroid. Even at a low BMR you should only lose a pound (ish) every couple days if you were fasting.

I wish I could give you a proper answer but you should try a new doctor. If you have a thermometer and blood pressure meter try taking readings throughout the day for a while…when you get up, right after eating, and hour after eating etc. It will give you some insight into what your metabolism is doing and if you show it to a doctor it might give them an idea of what’s going on.

Are these issues just during adulthood or your whole life?

Unfortunately my whole life. Doctors were concerned about me starving to death when I was 6 and I was eating 3 meals a day and snacks at school. We had to completely rework my meal plans. Carbs, protein, a salad here and there, and homemade meals so I could eat enough. Back then I was so skinny it looked like you could see every bump and ridge in my rib area. You could cleanly see where my sternum was and after eating I could watch my food digestion as it moved a bump through my intestines. I can honestly see why they were concerned, but to this day they never found out why. They did test my thyroid as a kid and I tested normally. However something in my body filters out meds and such too well and back then I was also on what would normally be considered a toxic dose for someone my size. They used blood levels to meter up to that dose. For all I know the meds had an effect on my metabolism.

To add an annoying extra detail: it actually got even faster in 2007 when I was 17. No idea how as I was trying to eat as much as I could and I finished at least 3 plates mounded with food on Thanksgiving only to lose 5lbs the next morning

Wow that’s unreal. Have you met or read about anyone else with a similar condition? What were the meds they had you on?

Also have you ever tried just force feeding yourself like 5000+ calories a day for a period of time? If so what happens?

Do you drink? Crushing beers is always a good way to get day quick lol, throw in some chicken wings for good measure!

Edit: also sorry if I’m prying, I’m just curious

have you tried Ensure yet.

To my knowledge just one of my cousins only. I’ve met others with a fast metabolism in my family and throughout my life, but only the 2 of us can eat like a football team and still stay scrawny. I don’t remember if I had read about anyone similar outside of parasites, but I’d think it would leave an impact.

I was on depakote, lithium, Seroquel, strattera, and clonidine were the meds I was on in 2007.

Not for a period of time no. Unless you count munchies back in 2012-2016. By 2016 I was working at a Panera and basically did everything there. I guilt tripled them into free meals for 6 months before I had to use the shitty 15% off employee discount. I was 145lbs again. A thought is possibly it’s the anxiety and stress on top of things. After 2016 I took a extended tbreak. The cooking I do for myself when I’m not also cooking for my fiance I make as a fat bomb with a lot of nooch. I don’t skin the fat in stews and let it mix in and just drink the stock/broth. My current goal is to get as many calories as I can in a small amount of liquid or food and be able to eat those with my meals with snacking in-between (ideally multiple meals between meals).

I do drink yes. Alcoholism runs in my father’s side of the family and I take after him, but so far no matter how much I drink I still go cold turkey just because I don’t feel like drinking after a binge. Same with soda too. I can chug about 24-48 12oz cans of soda a day on some days and others I’m comfortable with maybe 6. Beers depends on the day. Sometimes it’s just 1 and others a 18 pack if I don’t keep track.

No worries. Never know it could be relevant

Not in a long time no. But they’re pretty expensive in my area TBH. the best price I’ve seen is a bulk box from Costco for 20-30. CVS has them for like 10 each in my city.
It’s the main reason I started working on a workaround that costs me less money. A bottle of nooch lasts me a couple of months and I can add it to everything I eat. I can add it to nachos to mix with the cheese to add some nutrients to it. Trust me I’d grab it if I could afford it.

Well it’s a chicken egg thing with the anxiety, but given what you’re saying there is obviously some kind of physical issue there. I would highly doubt you’re absorbing nutrients properly which can be a huge factor in anxiety etc.

I was a huge boozer for the last like 20 years and just started realizing during this time how little I ate, I was definitely getting most of my calories through alcohol. It seems ok in theory but they’re garbage calories devoid of any nutrition. Also it fucks your blood sugar levels up which sends your body on a roller coaster. Over time the cells in your body actually change to get their energy from alcohol because it’s so easy for them. Also huge nutrient deficiencies develop.

Check out a book called ‘under the influence’. It’s about alcoholism but with a focus on the underlying physiological causes. Basically there’s a reason why some people will become drinkers and most won’t, I found it very eye opening…it was like reading a biography lol

Another one you might want to check out is ‘the mood cure’. It details why some people are depressed/anxious and how you may be able to fix it using certain diet practices and vitamins/amino acids. This sounds like hippie nonsense but there’s actually alot of science now to support these theories. I just ordered some of the stuff she suggests we’ll see if it does anything.

Anyways I’m just rambling, this is all stuff I’ve come across since I’ve been having issues that I never would have known otherwise. The body is a very complicated thing and everyone’s is different, I hope you can figure yours out!

I made some nutritional bars with nuts, oats, honey, raisins, and then added nutritional yeast thinking it was almost tasteless. Ruined the whole thing with its rank cheese smell and taste :frowning:

What happen to me was I started to gain weight 60 lbs I got big and could not tolerate any bull shit no matter how little .
I knew something was wrong when I stood out side in freezing cold in a tee shirt and was complaining how hot it was in the middle of winter
Dr said hypothyroidism an recommended nuclear medicine treatment then that turned to hyperthyroidism and has to be controlled with meds once a day
Funny story
Going for nuclear treatments in hospital it’s in a concrete room and led lined in the basement no less I walked in the tech greeted me and said sit down I’ll get the pill
So out he comes in a has-mate suite with a led lined box . He placed The box it down in front of me grabbed a 3 foot set of tongs opened the box and grabbed a vile with 1 pill in it . Ok I stretched out my hand as if to have him drop the pill in my hand so I can pop it in my mouth ! No he said he can’t let me handle it he had to use the 3 foot tongs To place in my mouth
I said holy shit I can’t hold it but you could drop it down my mouth and it’s for my own safety
What’s wrong here
Lol
Long story short all good

That’s so crazy. Usually they give radioactive iodine for hyperthyroid because it fries the thyroid so it won’t keep pumping out too much stuff. Could you feel the radiation pill after you took it? Any cool superpowers??

Glad it worked out for ya, radioactive man!

not all doctors can accurately or properly read a thyroid panel or report. I found that out over the years from many, many different people that have had thyroid disease, and or thyroid problems. also, adjustments to medication take time and testing and there again if not read correctly, you’re in bad or worst condition than to begin with possibly? So, if you do not feel comfortable with the dr. or their opinion, diffidently get a second or even a third opinion if needed?

a long time ago, in a galaxy, no that’s a different story…
let’s try this again shall we: a long time ago, back in the early '80s, my aunt on my step-monsters side of the family, was a nurse, and guess what? My dad, well… he was an alcoholic. The dr.s had him on all kinds of meds. for depression and different shit including valium. My aunt had us to get a piece of bacon place a valium tablet on the bacon strip and to pour just a little beer onto the bacon and see what happens. the process started acting like an acid and it actually dissolved a hole through the bacon strip within about maybe 4-6 minutes, now that is from what I remember as a 12 or 13 year old. the bacon is more or less like the inside lining of our stomachs, supposedly? But I didn’t even sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what do I know?

but I never, I mean ever, took a valium while I was drinking.

That’s the plan. I need to get my health card renewed before I can go back but I’ll eventually get to it lol. In the meantime I’m doing lots of reading so I know some stuff before going in, thanks!

And yes benzos and alcohol are a very bad idea!
