Ball Mason Jars (pass the smell test?)

My sister just got home from surgery. Making her a care package of 3 strains. Each in its own ziplock & then put into this 800ml Ball Mason jar, with the old-school canning top.

Will this jar keep the smell from escaping? Don’t yet have any experience with these jars & don’t want to reek up her whole house with some loud buds. Thanks!

I think I saw something about double lids??

jars work fairly well. especially with the bud bagged in it. . .maybe extra caution - put the jar in larger tupperware.

hope your sites recover quickly

I think it will work fine. If your really concerned you could wrap it with aluminum foil.

Cool thanks @Calix & @Justsmkn :+1:
I grow it & smell it every day… so I can’t tell if something smells or not anymore like a normie would

If the lid and band are in good condition and they are mated to the correct jar, then the smell is contained very well. I’ve got a bunch of jars curing in the cupboards, and non-weed friends and family don’t smell them.

I bet you if you took it through the canning process it’d seal even better.

Not suggesting you do this.

I use jars with rubber grommets and sometimes vacuum bags and you can’t smell a thing except Mrs Foreigner’s bong.

When in doubt vacuum seal for the win.

My method is the jar, rolled up inside of brown paper bag then vacuum sealed in 11mm bags.
Most important part of the process is to fill the jar and go wash up your hands, then do all of the sealing. Fingertips can carry glue which transfers to any surface leaving behind the smells.

Yea I guess vacuum sealing isn’t as expensive as it used to be. I’ll look into that next. :+1:

Double ziplock in a mason jar is fine. Tighten it until your knuckles turn white.

And ime I’ve Never had any issues with just plain old nugs in a jar :man_shrugging:t2:
But yes better safe than sorry :green_heart:

While you have some great advice already I would suggest all those in USA hit up one of your Canadian friends and get your hands on a couple of these for future use. They work amazing. Just toss them into another mailer so the postal folks don’t see what they are.

I’ve never thought of it, too be quite honest with you, you see my nose has been broken many, many times so my sense of smell may not be the best judge to judge by. but I can tell you this: I grew up on the farm in nc, most my younger life anyways. and I never smelt any pickles grandma had made and stored in the cupboard until they were opened or they ate a hole through the lid. she usually canned many quarts of various veggies, and at least 25 quarts of those kerosene cucumbers every summer. remember: never, ever smelt them. that is what I can pass along on the subject.

Ok so… results.

Grove Bags leak quite a bit of smell. Weed was inside ziplocks, then inside a grove bag, then inside Tupperware… still had the ole’ stanky leg!

Ball Mason Jar + Ziplocks = Zero Smell!
