I really think I’ll go into topping regularly and set up a drying rack system. Smaller buds just seem a safer bet until I get my system ironed out.
I threw some out at harvest time from my outdoor with rot. I was like that commercial with the Indian that had a tear running down his cheek, looking at the garbage blowing around.
Hell Ya
So sad to hear, those were GORGEOUS pillars. Sadly, some plants are just rot prone… SOMA makes a lot of those It is all a learning experience and you are doing a great job @BigMike55. I have lost quite a few harvests myself, living in cold and rainy San Francisco, it can be a constant battle against mold and mildew here. I am glad the Skywalker and ICC were able to make it!
One of my methods to minimize my mold is that I have found that I need to keep the air circulating (fairly strongly) in my tent constantly. This is because the microclimate surrounding the leaf is always at 100% humidity where the pores are transpiring and that moisture builds up fast within buds if there is no air current to carry it away. If I cycle my fans on a timer, I can observe via my environmental monitor that the humidity spikes really high when the fans turn on after having been off because of the moisture that the fan causes to evaporate from the leaf surface has built up to huge levels when the fans were off.
Y’know?
You might have something there. I was thinking what’s different in the two tents. Why did I get moldy buds in the small tent but not the big tent. Hmmmm!
Everything is the same except for the size of the tent. Same intensity on lights. Same nutrients schedule. Same humidity. Same temps. What’s different???
Ah-ha! The small tent only had a small 4" fan blowing on the lights. And the 4" exhaust fan. But that was only half speed due to negative pressure on the tent. The large tent also has a tower fan in the corner occilating back and forth on high speed.
Maybe that extra bit of fannage is keeping the mold away???
This sucks big time friend.
But on a side note: THANKS FOR THE WARNING!
100%. My 4x4 has enough negative pressure to replace the air stupid fast. So fast the walls cave in so I reinforced them and additionally provide forced air to mitigate the negative pressure.
This sucks but so does mould… and I started doing this because of a horrible moment battling issues when doing a RDWC run.
I haven’t flowered indoor in quite a while, but I always ran on the dry side of the VPD chart, especially in mid to late flower, like target
40%<RH<50% with target temp 80f with lights on, and down to as low as 65f with lights off, if I could get it that low with the situation I had to work with. Say in summer off73f<T<on85f and winter off65f<T<on80f.
That’s in the hot/dry no-no zone on the VPD chart during lights on. I mostly ran indica stuff with dense bud structure, and I never had any mold issues.
I’m a firm believer in wind movement my flower room is sealed and runs 80 f lights on 74/76 lights out. Humidity steady at 60% with a thousand c02 .
4 ft isolating fan runs steady .
@herojuana.tom nailed for you! I have two circulating fans in each of my rooms running on medium. Never had mold on my inside girls no matter the strain.Mold doesn’t grow well in a room with good air circulation.
Oh yeah, I would say that that sounds to be a likely culprit. These girls like to be blown hard
But not so hard that they get wind burn…You don’t want chapped leaves. Enought to get air moving across all plant surfaces and helping stir up the air in the closed chamber
Iron Eyes Cody
Whoever made the statement that it’s better to give than receive never had a good blowjob………
Well I certainly hope no one is blaming the strain. Buddahs Cane is a Spectacular plant. I have another clone of her going right now. So fucking pretty!
Oh! And the smoke is top notch too. I smoked a small bowl last night and had zero trouble getting to sleep. Harsh as hell but was only cut last week. I think after a few weeks in the jars this will be some incredible smoke.
‘Iron Eyes Cody’ was not a Native American, he was Italian…lol just portrayed an Indian.
lol the magic of Hollywood
Good morning, OG!
Wassup Giz?
Boring vegetation @BigMike55 . I think strain hunting was a lot more fun. But… so is having a stash…
I have faith in ya cuz, there are a few things you could try, in the fight against bud rot. Although it seems you may have hit the problem, ‘not enough wind’ is the usually culprit, especially when couple with high-ish humidity.
Yeah. And thanks to @herojuana.tom for for giving me that virtual slap to the head. Made me think hard about what happened. That little 2x4 tent doesn’t have much spare room for a circulation fan. Hafta get creative again.
