Not real sure but it makes sense to me that may have been my problem. We will see. In my defense I always used Happy Frog but I had always heard goo about FFOF and I found it on sale local for $15 for 2 cu ft. That’s like 1/2 of Amazon price. So I got a few bags. It is not like Happy Frog in texture and I believe it is quite a bit hotter than Happy.

Make sure you water to runoff when using nutrients to help prevent salt buildup like that. A little LITFA and they should be alright. If they are taking too long to dry out again, you can put a towel under them for a few hours. The towel should help wick eater out of the soil.

You are right Mike. I am experimenting with mediums this grow.
I have four plants going right now that are part of that. Two have FFOF and two are Happy Frog. All have received the same nutes… but the runoff on the two with FFOF run 300 - 400 ppm higher than the Happy Frog.
I’m now amending the nutes to the FFOF to 1/2 nutes and slowly raising it back up, hopefully to 3/4 strength.

I actually use about half strength FF3. I usuall get me 3 gals water and mix my ntrients a 1/2 str. Then check ppm or ec. I like mine to be around 500-750. But definately not over about 1200. And that would be with any extra like bud candy. Once i have my ppm where i want it, then work on pH. I like ie to be berween 6.00 and 6.50.

There is nothing in Happy Frog compared to Ocean Forest. I watched a whole thing about it. I believe that’s why the Happy Frog is usually cheaper of the two.
When I use FFOF I don’t start adding extra nutrients until flower. Even then I start low and work my way up. I have grown all the way without adding nutes using FFOF. I was using 5 gallon pots tho. Ultimately I guess it would depend on the size of your pot and your plants.

I’ve gotten to where I will use a couple of inches of OF when up potting the first time to a
1 gal pot. Since I use dry nutes it can be a little slow for the roots to use it so, I figure a little on the bottom will get them rolling while the microbes get established.
I’ve gone back to being more religious about following my feeding guide and keeping nutes in check. I’m going back to erring on the side of not enough. It’s usually always the right way, lol. I was getting too loose with it and was over feeding for sure.
I’ve found 4 volunteer seedlings/plants that I found around my property. I’m leaving them to go it alone with only Mother Nature. One sprouted in the driest spot in my back yard that is hard clay till it rains, and it survived about a half dozen freeze/frost mornings. It looks stellar. Some friends did the same thing a few years back. A seed sprouted from their ash tray dumpings and they never gave it a thing. It grew to about 5 feet with large buds. Ironically it froze one night before they cut it. Heh.
