Alright, its been a pretty uneventful 2 weeks until very recently. First off, the older 7 plants have been growing well. I ran into a touch of calmag about a week ago, but just top dressed some oyster shell and a little Pride Lands veg, and they turned right around. A few days ago now, I went through and topped/supercropped all the plants. Then yesterday I pulled off all the big fan leaves(there were a lot) and like a stoner I forgot to snap a before pic, but the fan leaves were already nice and chunky. Normally I wouldnt get them like that, but since Im waiting up for the next pop and trying to keep them in 1s in the meantime, Im doing this trick instead. Stole it from CSI Humboldt lol. Only difference is I supertop/top a few days ahead of pulling any leaves so the lower nodes can become tops for a nice bush effect. Its been really helpful for me lately in trying to have seed moms in 1 gals without getting too tall and wonky, and it’s doing well for these too.
Theyve even grown a noticeable amount since I defol’d and took the pic. Should also note one of them is showing some variegation on a leaf. Which is not a trait Ive seen in the several hundred Snow Lotus pure Ive grown. So it may be a marker from the UW? Just thought Id mention it!
Also, Ive got 1 seedling from the 2nd pop just starting to show green. Looks like it should make it, and I plan to just continue to be patient and hope some more pop up. But until then, theyll just hang out in the 1020 tray on a heat mat and get a mist from the spray bottle every day to make sure the soil stays moist.
The Black Lotus are looking great! Gonna have some dense short-noded Afghan-style beasts.
Thrilled you got an additional seed to pop, making 8 plants so far, crossing my fingers for any additional late-poppers.
Things are finally starting to pick up on this little project. The 7 original plants are bushing out perfectly, and if it weren’t for the younger seedling catching up, I would drop them into flower now. But I don’t mind waiting a few more weeks for the younger one.
My little training trick from CSI has worked exactly as intended, and the plants are real bushy for being so small and only in 1 gals. All I have done is top dressed with some Pride Lands veg and a healthy sprinkle of oyster shell since calmag popped up. As well as bi-weekly teas/buddha grow. The weather has been really inconsistent and strange the last few weeks. Going from mid 70s to days of rain to the point of flooding and power outages. Luckily my location wasnt affected by any of the outages. The only downside was some aphids get into my mom tent. I regularly release ladybuds, but I didnt predict that warm weather. Instead Ive been hit them with garden soap, nuke em(citric acid), and today ill use some insect control(essential oil) spray to make sure theres no stragglers as per my IPM regiment. I only use non-systemic and organic sprays, so Ill usually hit em a good 4-5 days in a row with a rotation of those things, vs 1 or 2 applications of something more potentially toxic. Not only for the plants, but because my dog homies love chewin up stems and leaves.
The game plan from here is give that small plant enough time to get a few nodes, and then pot everything up into 2 gallon pots and into my 5x5 to flower. Then Ill most likely leave the dudes in 2s, and pot up the females to 5s as soon as they show sex. Last couple years Ive done a buncha tests with leaving males smaller, and have found I can get more than enough pollen from a dude in a 1 or 2 gal. As well as theyre a lot easier to move around and shake all over the ladies. I do have a little male isolation tent inside the house I just set up that Ill probably end up loading all the dudes into there right before they start kickin pollen. So I can keep them from blowing the pollen all over the big tent, and only focus on pollinating the right ladies.
They def stem rub real similar to the Snow Lotus for sure! But with a tough of that call ghani hashy flavor.
They for sure remind me more of Snow Lotus in veg than most of the crosses Ive ran. Suckers are growing really fast like it tends to do as well. Im interested to see if they jump like crazy post 12/12 too, Im prepared for it lol
