Yeah, spicy like peppercorn, not quite like a chile pepper. I dunno if that means anything to the end product, but I’ve found that OG crosses often have that spiciness.

Today is day 54 from flip, yesterday when they flopped was 53. I put the day in my filenames for organizational purposes, so you can always tell based on that if I forget to mention it. They were getting floppy but I expected them to stay aloft, as I saw no indications that they’d spontaneously keel over. Good info for future growers of the F2 - you’ll prolly need support, even when topped and trained. They are very heavy with seed, tho!

Yep, you’re right on the money with the terp profile; that’s how I understand it too. That marshmallow smell/flavor is supposed to be the Hollywood PK (which is apparently the same cut labeled Topanga elsewhere - @Strayfox 's favorite smoke - the OG side of things, not the bubba kush side of things like some PK cuts).

I’ve never run any of the clone-onlys, but everything I read about the Pura Vida cut going around CO, the one that @Gu of Greenpoint Seeds found when he tested this, was a similar citrus marshmallow vibe. I’m excited to try the Hollyweed too, got a pack donated for preservation from the great and powerful @MojoRising for when the 88g13hp lines are retired.

Thanks @mtntrogger and @WHF . Just trying to spread good vibes to counteract all the greed and hate and hard hearts that fill this industry and the other forums/IG and the world at large.

We need more people giving out good info, sharing instead of hoarding, giving rather than taking, collaborating instead of sneering and hating, freely preserving and passing out rare seeds instead of trying to monetize and gouging the market. Not just in cannabis and here at OG, but in every part of life.

Please be kind and generous and compassionate and patient with everyone, even if they’re none of those things to you. Think not what they can do for you, but what you can do for them.

:peace_symbol: &

I hadn’t heard that about the Hollywood being the same as the Topanga. Interesting. There was a pretty good dispensary that I used to make special trips to years ago, started out in Malibu and was called Green Angel. Then they moved to Sherman Oaks and were called MMRC (Medical Marijuana Relief Clinic), then they moved to West LA and changed the name back to Green Angel and now they’re in Sherman Oaks again, still called Green Angel haha. Anyway, they specialized in a lot of these ‘91 cuts (the ‘91 was to denote the grower, didn’t have anything to do with the year). They actually had a Hollywood OG and a Pure OG, claimed they were two different strains. And they also had a Topanga OG. Three different strains, or so they said. The Pure was definitely different in both looks and affects than any of the other OG’s. I dunno. Just reminiscing, I guess. I haven’t been to that place in years…

Who knows the real story. So much fuckery in this industry due to greed.

There was a big thread about it on ICMag years ago, lots of fighting and bickering and backstabbing like ICMag and its ilk are known for, but people said the Topanga is characterized by its marshmallow flavor. Here’s a thread from BreedBay that summarizes what was known about it, with links to other forums as well:

https://www.breedbay.org/community/threads/bodhi-pure-kushs.201364658

There’s lots of search results online where retailers and others with no profit motive say that Hollywood PK = LA PK = Topanga. And, more credibly imho, @Gu from Greenpoint Seeds who originally tested Pura Vida for bodhi (link in the first post on this thread) says that Hollywood PK = Topanga in his description of the Blizzard Bush cross using his Pura Vida cut from that round of testers.

And I’m pretty sure I saw Strayfox say Hollywood PK = Topanga and that it’s his favorite smoke, back when I could browse IG without a login. Of course I can’t find that now.

This is one of those myth things that really bothers me about weed industry hoarding. Renamed cuts wouldn’t exist if there wasn’t an incentive to hoard and lie about provenance as a means to profit for the greedy selfish oldschool weed black market peddlers.

When it comes to making free seeds to share in these preservation runs, provenance & generation matters a lot. I don’t want to fuck up the chain of custody. If I’m just growing to smoke, I don’t give two shits what it is if it smokes good. I’m not into bragging about what I have, not into hyping or posturing to make myself look good by bragging about this or that, name dropping weed industry celebs I know, posting pics of my hoarder seed vault, etc. Fuck those type of people. It ain’t a competition.

@nube I still got one package of GPS Blizzard Bush.

I always wanted to pop them and grow them but never had the time… maybe would be a nice thing to do after this preservation run

Dude, pop ‘em! I just read the description in the link that @nube posted. Sounds good to me!

Okay, good to know. So one should expect a marshmallow nose/flavor from any sort of Topanga cross then? Just wondering since I recently bought five packs of that Valley Chem from GPS.

And I agree re: all the bullshit goings-on in the seed/clone/grower industry. That’s one of the things I like best about Bodhi: no bullshit. Thanks for that Hollywood link from Breedbay, too. I love reading weed history. I pretty much only alternate between reading the news and once I’ve had enough of that, switch to reading about weed/growing it haha.

Yeah @Swe-can like @minitiger said, pop em. You could then do a bx? with the PV F2 for some home team fun.

Who knows. That’s just what I’ve read. I’m sure you’ll find all sorts of things.

RE: bodhi’s complete lack of hype and fuckery, I couldn’t agree more. The bodhis, Mrs. & Mr. run a pretty tight ship.

From their good vibes and organic environment, to all the fundraisers they do for friends both domestic and international, from their vetting cuts extensively to their incredible testing program to working males down many generations (88g13hp is rumored to be at F6 now from the original F1 given by @n8tiveguy ), to how cheap they keep packs, to how much diversity they offer and freebies they give…it’s really phenomenal.

In an industry ripe with scammers and greedy fucks screaming LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME all over IG, it’s nice to see people like the bodhis not raise prices, not reduce the freebies, not hype anything, do absolutely zero marketing ever, and not cut corners along the way. They’re the gold standard imo. And 25 years on, it’s still just the two of them doing it out of their house. With a lil’ help from their friends of course.

All the hype artists and thuggish scammers bragging and posting pics of guns and money and other evil dark vibe shit could learn a thing or two about how to conduct themselves from the bodhis.

/rant lol

Sorry for the rant, I just get fired up about all the scammers and bad vibes in this industry. I haven’t bought black market weed in 25 years so they don’t really impact my life, but I can’t stand seeing their bs all over IG and even creeping into good places like here.

Luckily, we have people like bodhi and strayfox and all the preservation run people to project the good vibes in counterpose. :love_you_gesture:

Speaking of @Strayfox he set me straight on the Topanga vs. Hollywood PK discussion. He said,

FYI, I think i read a thread the other day that you were wondering about 2 cuts… Topanga and hpk are 2 totally different phenos. Topanga is more burnt skunky earthy kush on a stretchy frame, where the real deal hpk is more feminine marshmallow playdoh kush on a medium stretchy frame. Both fire.

To add more credence to this, he has run both cuts and uses them in his projects.

So there you have it. Thanks stray and good to know!

For real man, we dont want that crap creeping in here. I was this to stay a place I can refer my friends to and be proud of. The genrosity is unreal.

Spitting nothing but straight facts, in the last year and a half since i’ve been growing and looking at strains packs have almost doubled or tripled in price like it’s absurd. Especially since 90% of these hype strains all come from the same 5 or so cuts smashed into each other again and again with a different label.

“Runtz ya life up”

i’m watching this podcast with Bodhi, not only does he make fire shit he seems like a super genuine guy who actually cares about spreading the beauty of cannabis not just how much profit he’ll make next seed drop. Bodhi’s lasted 25 years producing nothing but :fire: I hope to help keep his stuff growing for another 25+ :+1:

You could always just not visit IG…

Just kidding, man, but I do kind of abhor almost every social media site. The only reason I have a FB profile is to keep in touch with friends who live in other states/countries, but I can only log on there when I’m drunk. Seriously. I cannot visit any social media site unless I’m drunk. I dunno if that’s an indictment of social media or of me… haha.

Cool that strayfox set the record straight. I was considering running both the Hollyweed and the Valley Chem for the late winter/early spring grow, just so I had some super-chill weed for next summer (and B’s Dread Bread for something different), but then I was like,”Well, shit, if they’re the same strain…” Good to know that they’re not. Besides Larry Lotus, I don’t think I’ve ever run any hybrids of OG’s that are associated with LA/SoCal, pretty stoked about it. Anyway…

Today is day 56F, the end of week 8. The plants are looking pretty decent. Pheno #s 1 - 2 - 4 - 7 from left to right.

Here’s quick pics of each pheno. You can see how I staked and zip tied them up. They’re not looking glamorous anymore. lol

Pheno #1:

Pheno #2:

Pheno #4:

And pheno #7 the one with the broken top.

Here’s a closeup on the broken top with highlight to show where it broke and the direction of the top in relation to the main stem:

I’m surprised and hopeful that it looks like it’s going to make it OK. It’s hangin on by a thread.

I’ll let these go at least another week, possibly 2+ until I feel the vast majority of the seeds are ready. The trichs say the plants are close to done, with mostly cloudy and a few ambers, which makes sense given the 8-9 week window I’ve seen quoted for this strain.

@Badger yeah we all can help keep this place free of drama and full of kindness, generosity and compassion.

@WHF It’s just my opinion, but I think bodhi’s great as both a breeder and as a human being. Nobody’s perfect, but I’m constantly shocked by how good and kind both he and his wife are, despite very significant challenges they face. I dunno how he maintains his humility given how every other breeder on the planet looks up to him, but somehow he manages. I’m sure it has to do with lots of psychedelic therapy and never letting people stroke his ego too much. You could call me a bodhi honk. lol

@minitiger lol don’t drink and social media! I don’t have an IG account and can’t view it anymore except through a 3rd party website like instagrammy. I also don’t use any social media cuz it’s just not my thing - like TV, it ain’t reality and it’s too much about self-promotion.

By the way, thanks for the link to your THCfarmer grows. I don’t visit that site at all but it was nice to see all the pics and follow along without having to register and login. You’re a grower after my own heart and I like the cut of your jib.

Praying for that #7 :crossed_fingers: I think she’ll survive she looks like a tough mamacita

it’s absolutely incredible that he is doing such great work without a big team, i’d be pulling hair out releasing that many crosses lelel

Super happy to be apart of a community with people like you and Bodhi spreading positivity

I think the plants are looking pretty glamorous, broken top or no broken top haha. They’re definitely looking like they’re almost done, that’s for sure. I had to scroll back to the top of that last post to double-check what day they were on.

Re: thcfarmer: I used to really like that site, there were a bunch of cool and knowledgeable people on there, but lately it’s just been lame. Seems like it’s been overrun by newbs. Which is fine, we were all there (I still consider myself a newb as I really have no idea what I’m doing at all), but there’s just so many posts asking people to diagnose their problems or growing autos or whatever. I dunno. I like it here better haha.

should be some quality gear there @nube . Congrats, you almost at the finish line.
Ive grown Bodhis Mothers Milk w/ the Appy male. Quality genetic.
Planned on the F3’ing of Mothers Milk, but the field mice had other ideas this year. Had to get another plan.
Pure/LA Kush s supposed to be fire as well.

Yessir, let’s hope the beans all ripen up soon. Thanks for the kind words.

I’ve got a pack of Mother’s Milk held back to F2, but I’m waiting until I can source bodhi’s selected #MothersMilk31 cut to include in the open pollination madness. The mm31 cut has won 3 cups so far, and this lab test was posted by @sovereign_707 on IG awhile back.

Numbers can lie, but prolly not when they’re that high.
