Breaking my own self.imposed rule

Hey does anyone have experience in cloning an outside 🪴 and bring the clones indoors
I try to.keep.outside plants outside and
Inside plants inside just to prevent mites
Does anyone have a protocol for this? I am growing Oaxaca landrace in the ground and am afraid they are not going to.mature and make seed
I’m in central.oklahoma

I’ve got clones from outdoors inside right now. They won’t produce as well being indoors and hit them HARD with whatever you use for IPM, But still a great way to preserve genetics till next season.

I have done it with success…I also spray them with Safer when I bring them indoors and put them in quarantine…

I did it once with out thinking it through and brought aphids into my house. Not the worst bug to have but it could have been
worse. Like others are saying be careful.
Honestly I personally wouldn’t do it again. Then I don’t have to worry about it.

I always bring my summer plants indoors to finish, and never once have I managed to stay completely bug free. Since my plants are already in midflower I don’t do anything to them. If I were you I would clone Outdoors and once rooted, treat the cuttings as you would any other plant that has issues. I just successfully rooted a cutting outdoors in full sun in a half pint ball jar with an inch and a half of water and a fish bubbler in it. Just protect the water from sun exposure by wrapping it with something or burying it in some dirt like I did. It’s also possible to clone whole entire branches by treating them as you would a shorter branch and sticking them in some dirt under a tree with filtered sun. @Tejas just did something similar with Malawi, but indoors. You would have to wait until the daytime temperatures are in the 70s for this to work . Aphids and Spider mites are the two pests you probably need to look out for.
The treatment my cousin gave his cuttings out west was a product called clean green and we completely dunked the plants into it. You could do something similar with neem oil and dunk the whole entire plant and it would definitely kill spider mites and aphids and their eggs, but I recommend clean grean if you can get it

I spray, dunk, wipe, bring in, wipe, spray, dunk and then they good.

I think I will dunk them in hydrogen peroxide then neem oil and keep separate from the others for about four weeks.

Excellent advice given. Also don’t forget to keep up with normal ipm schedules. I use 15ml garden safe neem oil 5 ml maxi crop seaweed and 60 ml hydrogen peroxide ( the kind you find in drug stores) per gallon with a surfactant added. If I do this every week I never have problems with bugs.

Only takes about 4-5 weeks after pollen drops for seeds to mature if that’s your primary goal and not running them full term.

11on / 13 off will speed things up a bit if you wanted to light dep them, Would also provide some late season frost protection.

Smaller pots will finish a bit faster as well

Hit them with an air compressor/shop vac/water hose to knock off any unwelcome guests.

I think I put too much water under my clones and they were touching the water. I took some water off then put some hydrogen peroxide down the stem.i hope they don’t mold.

If you’re going to use that Safer’s soap look for the concentrate then add 10ml/L canola oil when you mix a batch for extra killing power. Make 10L for the price of one. Great stuff if you spray really well every 4 days for 4 or 5 treatments. Kills mites, thrips, aphids and more and very low low toxicity.

:peace:

Dunk in neem oil yes. Spray with neem oil every 3 days for 15 days yes. Be extremely careful with the hydrogen peroxide. I have seem some pretty fried clones from dipping in it, and I personally experienced a drastic change in genetic potential on clones from that stuff. That’s just me though. Who the hell am I?

I use it as is and spray every 2-3 day for a week and have been doing it for 18+years with great results…

Diclorvos is in the hotshot no pest strips…hang them over your plants…the vapors sink and will kill every type of pest on your plants, fliers etc…can be used early in flower…that and spraying your plants with 92% alcohol…will eliminate your pests 100%

No Neem use for me at all…it makes me sick as hell.

Dichlorvos is an organophosphate and is a hell of a lot more toxic to most humans than neem oil. Possibly someone has modified your genetics with colchicine to be immune to organophosphates, but I don’t think this is good advice for most people. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am too paranoid to do this. But I’m overly cautious about protecting my indoor stuff

Theyall.look pretty rough but are still standing. I have been opening the cloner a but an hour per day

Can’t you just treat the “clones to be” for a few days being careful to not let them burn in the sun.

Then, after it’s been treated for a few days, take the cutting and isolate it in the humidity dome. Good luck.
