I want to use bubble hash to infuse oil for making edibles with. I don’t like the plant flavor that comes along with using flower to infuse oil.
Here’s what I’ve done. Taken a relatively small amount of bubble hash and decarbed it. Added an amount of avocado oil and infused the hash into it (I took it out and stirred it half way through infusion process).
Now that the infused oil is ready, there’s a “hash sludge” in it, of course.
My question is, what is the best way to filter this? Best meaning fastest and with the least amount of loss.
I’ve been using a coffee filter inside a funnel. It works well, but the sludge falls to the bottom of the filter and makes it hard for the oil to get past and through the filter and out the funnel.
I could let it settle, and then there’s pretty clear oil on top, But whether I remove the oil from the top with a syringe or by pouring it off, there’s still oil in that sludge at the bottom. (Also, when making a small amount, you really want to get as much oil out as possible).
Anyone doing something similar and have a suggestion?

I was thinking this might be the first (if any) reply, haha. I’ll be using the oil for things that I wouldn’t want the sludge in, in many circumstances.
And I want to keep it in a syringe and dispense drops of it. The sludge makes it more difficult.
And I don’t bake much.
Cheesecloth would work nicely but were it me I wouldn’t bother with the filtering step.
I usually opt for an oil that will be solid at refrigerator temps so I can do a boil wash. This cleans the oil of impurities and decarbs at the same time.
After boiling the infused oil in water, letting cool, return pot to fridge, the solids settle, oil rises to top and hardens in fridge, water dissolves soluble impurities. The solid layer can be removed easily, and used as is. Clean and little taste, fully decarbed. Water is good to decarb as well, as temps never get above 212, less degradation and off flavor.
Pressing the hash will clean it up. Then infuse the rosin that you get with the oil of your choice. It will be clear without any settlements.
Hash makes the most beautiful tastings edibles. It’s crazy how many people are turned off by full flavored edibles.
You can take your oil, mix it with hot water press it down with cheesecloth or nylon. the infused oil will soak through it to the top. and then put in freezer. the oil hardens first It will be on top and you break the oil layer and pull it out of the water in a couple of chunks maybe no loss pretty quick. make butter for cookies that way . Also They make filters that fit on the end of a syringe that you push through and cleans it up nice I’m told. on Ebay and amazon. thanks for the reminder been wanting to order a couple.
