BubbleGum Auto/KNF Organic Outdoor

Well hello crowd! This is gonna be like a diary of my OUTDOOR grows, the one now, and the many to come, God willing.

Here we are at week 1 using dirt with ash, horse manure, bat guano, rice husks and lava rocks. It’s also got a lot of roots of whatever plants they dig the dirt from, but hey it’s right now at 6.1pH. Pics.

Well i think they became root bound inside of the peat pellets. A little maybe, they had explosive growth and now not so much. I noticed the first set of true leaves coming out it’s a bit yellowish. Gonna make them starve for water and see if that helps the roots be thirsty and venture out of the pellet. I should have taken the net off. I just put some lava rocks on top of the soil for, 1. Easier to water, as the soil is too soft, 2. Looks pretty, and 3. the soil will be cooler. Haven’t watered them once, since they were born.

Hppy Hrvst

Can i dig out the pellet and break the netting, to put it right back in? I mean i know i can, but is it a good idea? I’m afraid of breaking the roots tho.

I wouldn’t think a net would hold the roots back. I also wouldn’t withhold water. Isn’t the peat pellet designed to let the plants grow out?

Me neither, but i guess i’m just noob-nervous, gotta chill… Gotta smoke now! To your health!

PS.: I guess i expected them growing at the same rate all along… Like when they just come out of the seeds…

WHat do you think an air pot vs a fabric pots which one is better if you have more air in their roots.

Morning @MadScientist,

So when you put the pellets into the new containers, you did not “water them in”?

Once you place the pellets into the hole in your medium in your containers, you should water the pellet and the surrounding medium in order to seal the new medium around the pellet. This minimizes any air pockets and helps the pellets bond with the container medium.

I didn’t do that no. Hmm. Now i’m looking at the plants real close and one of the cotyledons has been eaten up at night. There two tiny holes on it… What could it be?

PS.: K, got them, little f**kers… There were worms on the cotyledons, tiny little worms, black and with some kind of spider web… Kinda like silk worms but black and 1/16 inch long…

Inspect the the little leaves for the culprit.
If spotted, destroy! Gently.
If it is only two holes in the cortyledons…not a calamity!

ETA: good job searching and destroying!
Get into the habit of checking your leaves every time you go out to gaze at your babies. That will minimize any future damage.

Water your plants gently around the circumference of the pellets and then the surrounding medium…pronto!

I will water them this evening when the sun is setting; the peats have been covered because this morning at 5.30am i filled the pots with fresh soil and it was kinda moist. Then after that a film of lava rocks for aeration and being able to water them without moving the soil around. Plus it’s easier to spot bugs.

Do i worry about ants…? They are all over the place.

You want me to switch over to air pots? I’m lost bro.

Ants farm aphids so they can be bad.

@shroomgod I have only used smart pots so can’t give my opinion on air pots.

I’ll get rid of them. Thanks man! Organic pesticide anyone?

For ants i use diatomaceous earth. Just make a circle around your plants and any spots you see them coming from.

I don’t want to sound like a dick, but I would not wait to water in those pellets.
IMHO, the sooner the better.

I hesitated posting this, but being quite anal regarding plants, posting this made me feel better!

I never had any problems with ants, but I think it depends on the type of ant.
So…I agree with @ryasco…DE will discourage them or slow them down

I believe the little black ants (sugar or piss ants) are the ones that farm aphids.
